WAITING FOR TOMMY: DAVID HINE
By Richard Johnston

RICHARD: "Something for everyone", you little salesman you. Well, it's true, reception to District X has been very favorable already and has compared well with Astro City and Top Ten. Are you ready to be a comics superstar?
DAVID: Damn right! Just lead me to the drugs and groupies!! Oh no, wait, this is comics.er.that'll be a keg of Old Peculiar and a style-challenged fanboy stalker then.

RICHARD: That was never proved in court, all the restraining orders are no longer active and I took that electronic tag off weeks ago. But for such a diverse creator. do you believe there can be much crossover readership between, say District X and Strange Embrace. What can you do to encourage such a mix? Would you even want to? And what about that loyal Care Bears audience still following you around?
DAVID: I would guess that most of the people who enjoyed 'Strange Embrace' will like 'District X' too and vice versa. (In fact all you DX fans, go down to your local comics shop and demand 'Strange Embrace' -also available from amazon.com or direct from publisher Active Images).

I would be happy to think I'd brought new readers to Marvel. In a sense that was my brief when I was first approached by Joe Quesada and Teresa Focarile. There seemed to be a definite plan to bring in writers from outside the comics mainstream and thereby broaden Marvel's audience. It seems to me, the best way to do that is to tell an engaging story that doesn't depend on the razzle-dazzle of costumed superheroics.

.and as to my "loyal Care Bears audience". you must mean my style-challenged fanboy stalker.

RICHARD: I'm saying nothing, you can't prove it, and I have CCTV footage which proves beyond doubt I was in Prague at the time.

David Hine writes District X for Marvel, and Strange Embrace for Active Images. Rich Johnston writes Lying In The Gutters.
