WAITING
FOR TOMMY: MICAH WRIGHT
By
Richard Johnston RICHARD:
Might give you a chance to get some work done though.?
MICAH:
I don't think they allow the Unlawful Combatants access to
paper or computers. I'd have to be all Alan Moore about it
and store up years worth of comic stories in my brain to spring
forth fully-formed from my skull like a Greek God once I was
released.
RICHARD:
Jemas is gone, replaced by another Fleer drinking buddy at
Marvel. Epic is all but gone. Fancy another crack at the House
Of Idea?
MICAH:
To be quite honest, looking back on that entire "Micah Vs.
Joe Quesada" online Battle to end all Super Battles, it was
stupid of me to have spoken out about it in public. I had
a meeting at Marvel which didn't go as well as I felt it could
have. I should have just gone home and complained to my cats.
Instead, I mentioned it online, forgetting that when you tell
one guy, or even 50 of your closest internet friends, you're
really telling the whole world. Joe Quesada reacted as many
people would and lashed out at some guy he considered to be
unfairly criticizing his employees. Like a moron, I punched
back online, and then Joe hit me back online and after that
third round, I grew tired of filling YOUR column every week
with MORE examples of "Micah Vs. Joey Q" and so I wrote Joe
a letter explaining my side of the story and apologizing to
him for the increasingly histrionic tone of my responses to
his comments and for any inadvertent harm I'd done to his
employees.
Joe was
really nice about it and wrote back saying that he was really
only concerned about the way his Marvel's employees were spoken
about. He also said that if I wanted to pitch him something,
he'd make sure it got a fair read. I fully intend to take
him up on that some day soon.
So, I
guess the answer to your question is "I never had an online
fight with Bill Jemas. I had an online fight with Joe Quesada."
RICHARD:
What else can we look forward to from you on the comics front?
MICAH:
Well, there's VIGILANTE, coming in July from DC Comics. That's
my first book under the DC Bullet, so I'm really excited about
that... DC's books are higher profile and ship to different
people than who generally read Wildstorm's books. I have a
few things which are in various stages of approvals and I
don't want to jinx any of them by talking about them in public
yet. I'm also preparing a few pitches for Marvel and a few
European companies... seems that my work sells pretty well
in Europe for some reason, or so I'm told.
And,
perennially, I'm always trying to get "American Cross" off
of the ground. Now it's a little easier because I can say
"American version of Master & Commander" and people suddenly
get it, whereas before, they mostly went "huh?" when I tried
to explain it.
RICHARD:
That one's been a long time coming - I read your pitch for
that before anyone had even mentioned StormWatch. well, I'll
buy a copy. Thanks Micah.
