Waiting For Tommy XXII
Interview with Rob Liefeld
RICHARD: Why Youngblood again? What is it about this idea that keeps you coming back?

ROB: I love the characters. They deserve a great send off.

RICHARD: So is this the end of Youngblood?

ROB: Could be. At least for this group it probably should be. We'll see. Mark Millar is a dream come true and I'm thrilled with the way he's handled the concept thus far.

RICHARD: Well, we hope to get a chance to see it. Now, you left Marvel and formed Image for a reason. An aim. An opportunity. Has that been realized?

ROB: Absolutely. I now own my own catalogue of 500 characters that I can explore for the rest of my life. I own them and control the future of these characters, it is exactly what I intended to do. I could never stay and create characters and content for another company. The situation would have to be extraordinary. Content is king in the entertainment business, and I have loads of content and I'll continue to add to it for the rest of my life.

RICHARD: Well, let's talk about that. I've taken you to task for promising much and delivering little of it. So I can now shoot myself in my own foot, how do you see the next year working out for Rob Liefeld? How many issues of Bloodsport do you reckon we'll have this time next year?

ROB: I'll complete Bloodsport, and in the process created an all-new revolution that will turn this industry on its ear. The reactions will be immediate and severe and the industry will change its course for the better. The art form has never been stronger, but we're being lulled to sleep by the business practices and restrictions of a select few companies that have little-to-no vision for the future. Once we awaken from our complacency, collectively, we'll be much stronger community.

RICHARD: Well, Rob, looks like you're going for a bit of legacy?

ROB: Actually, not at all. But the fact is that everyone has traditionally waited for the 'other guy" to make a risky move or to go in a different direction. Several times during my career, for better or worse, I've been that other guy. This will be a very similar situation.

RICHARD: And on that note, thank you for your time, Rob. Youngblood: Bloodsport should be published any day now, probably, and the Supreme collections are currently being collected by Checker.

Next week: Grant Morrison. If I survive his incoming attack of the sigils.
