"THE WALKING DEAD" KILLS A MAJOR CHARACTER -- AND IT'S NOT WHO YOU'D EXPECT07/06/16 @ 7:19 pm EST
Source: Comic Book Resources | Categories: Walking Dead | Comments (0) | E-mail Article | Add a CommentSPOILER WARNING: Major spoilers from Image Comics' "The Walking Dead" #156 follow.Issue #156 of "The Walking Dead" marks a major turning point in the war against The Whisperers, including a major character death. Don't get too excited by that cover art though -- it's not who you think it is.
Just kidding. It's
exactly who you think! Maybe Charlie Adlard and Dave Stewart were trying to fool readers with their illustration of Negan holding Alpha in his arms. Maybe they were trying to hint that this is the issue where they fall in love rather than the issue where Negan kills her -- make that
beheads her. But take a closer look at that image. Alpha's eyes are hazy under that skin mask; weak and confused. It's very clear that the life is slipping out of her, and Negan's sadistic grin indicates that he's the one holding the knife.
It doesn't go down in the Robert Kirkman-written story quite like you'd expect, though. At first, Negan seems concerned with proving his worth among The Whisperers via a "Rocky"-esque training montage where he carries firewood, slays his first wild boar with an arrow, and takes down two walkers with nothing more than his knife. But just when you think he's adapting to The Whisperers' animalistic ways, he becomes horrified at two of their males forcing themselves upon an unwilling female. As twisted as Negan is, he's always been strongly opposed to sexual abuse (harems are okay in his book, though), and it's more than he can handle.
What follows is a fascinating debate between him and Alpha about their different philosophies in "The Walking Dead's" post-apocalyptic society. As Negan points out, they're polar opposites in many ways. He's someone who wants desperately to feel emotion and can't, while she's someone who tries to suppress hers, but can't. Then, after she tearfully confesses that she let several men in the camp rape her daughter to build up her strength, Negan slits her throat. It's unclear whether that was his plan all along, or if Alpha's outlook on sexual assault pushed him to kill her. Knowing Negan's complexity, it's probably a mixture of both.
"Wait until Rick gets a look at you," Negan utters to Alpha's severed head. Will his (former?) enemy get as much satisfaction out of her death has Negan? And how will this affect the overall rivalry with The Whisperers, which has stretched for nearly two years in the comics? We'll have to wait and see.
CHARLIE COX SIGNS A COPY OF DAREDEVIL #1 FOR A FAN06/16/24 @ 1:30 pm EST
Source: Twitter | Comments (0) | E-mail Article | Add a CommentA young lady on the social media platform formerly know as Twitter, has cause a bit of a ruckus this weekend. Her account name is Mal and she describes herself as a 20-year-old Matt Murdock enthusiast as well as a fan of Marvel, Star Wars,
Adam Driver,
Charlies Cox and 5sos… I’m not familiar with that last one. Mal went to what appears to be Fan Expo Boston this weekend and stood inline for an autograph and for a photo with Charlie Cox. On her twitter pages she posted a video and photo as she asked Charlie to sign her copy of
Daredevil #1 from 1964 by
Stan Lee and
Bill Everett. The actor did as he was requested and posed with Mal and her comic, a photo separate from the photo session she was set up for later that day. Mal appears to be very happy with everything that happened, but when posting all of this on social media, people started calling her out for “defacing comic history.”
Daredevil #1 is valued anywhere between $1,700 to $21,000 depending on the condition and these posters felt Charlie’s signature would bring the value of the comic down. But there are two values to a comic, the resale value which only matters if you’re trying to sell it, and the enjoyment value you get from owning the comic. And having one of her favorite actors who brings the character to life for Marvel Studios adds to the enjoyment value for Mal, and that is the only thing that matters. Nice job Mal, and thank you for sharing your experience with everyone.

Barbie. As for the rest of the box office, Bad Boys continued to perform well, dropping only 45% in their second weekend with $33 million.

RUSSELL CROWE THOUGHTS ON SUPERHERO MOVIES AS ART BY COMMITTEE06/16/24 @ 12:51 pm EST
Source: GQ Magazine | Comments (0) | E-mail Article | Add a CommentDuring a recent interview with
GQ magazine,
Russell Crowe was asked about some comments made by
Dakota Johnson about her movie
Madam Web and how superhero movies can feel like art made by committee. Crowe, having recently appeared in
Thor: Love & Thunder is a veteran of these types of movies. When asked about his experience, Crowe said: “I don’t want to make any comments to what anybody else might have said or what their experience is, but… you’re bringing out the impish quality of my humour. [
Laughs.] You’re telling me you signed up for a Marvel movie, and some fucking universe for cartoon characters... and you didn’t get enough pathos? Not quite sure how I can make this better for you. It’s a gigantic machine, and they make movies at a certain size. And you know, I’ve experienced that on the DC side with
Man of Steel,
Zack Snyder, and I’ve experienced it on the Marvel side via Disney with
Thor: Love and Thunder. And I’ve also experienced the [Sony-produced] Marvel dark universe with
Kraven the Hunter. These are jobs. You know: here’s your role, play the role. If you’re expecting this to be some kind of life-changing event, I just think you’re here for the wrong reasons. It can be challenging, working in a blue-screen world, when you have to convince yourself of a lot more than just the internal machinations of your character. But for anything to be... and you can’t make this a direct comment on her because I don’t know her and I don’t know what she went through, and the fact that you can have a shit experience on a film… Yeah, you can. But is that the Marvel process? I’m not sure you can say that. I haven’t had a bad experience. I mean [on
Thor], OK, it’s a Marvel movie, but it’s
Taika Waititi’s world, and it was just a gas every day, being silly. And then, with
JC Chandor on
Kraven, I’m just bringing a little weight to the circumstances, so the young actors have got an actor they can bounce off. Going to work with JC was fun. You know, so many of these directors have a certain skill level – freaking genius people. Think about what’s required, right? It’s everything: the composition, the framing, the color, the music, what’s left outside the camera. Whether it’s [
Proof director]
Jocelyn Moorhouse or it’s
Ridley Scott, you’re talking about hanging out with geniuses.”
MAHERSHALA ALI'S REP CAN'T BELIEVE BLADE DELAYS06/15/24 @ 2:17 pm EST
Source: The Hollywood Reporter | Comments (0) | E-mail Article | Add a CommentYou think the incessant delays affecting the upcoming Blade movie are crazy? Imagine if you’re
Mahershala Ali or the people who represent him. The Hollywood Reporter was talking to lawyers inside the industry which included
Shelby Weiser, who represents Ali, who can’t believe the movie hasn’t begun filming yet. "That deal was in 2019, and they still haven't shot it, which is pretty much the craziest thing in my professional experience." The film has gone through more than its fair share of re-writes and directors leaving, throw on top of that a writer and actor strike, and you end up with a movie that’s been in production long enough that they should be working on the sequel instead. At the moment the film is still slated for a November 2025 release, but that is becoming harder and harder to believe as Marvel Studios begins looking for its third director since
Yann Damange exited the project. And now the studio has to worry about keeping their star as Ali is said to be talking to Universal about joining
Jurassic World 4. We’re likely to hear more about both movies this summer with big events like San Diego Comicon and D23 on the horizon.
28 RIDERS GET STUCK UPSIDE DOWN AT AMUSEMENT PARK06/15/24 @ 2:01 pm EST
Source: Twitter | Comments (0) | E-mail Article | Add a CommentEmergency personnel were summoned to the Oaks Park amusement park outside of Portland, Oregon Friday as one of their rides malfunctioned and left 28 people hanging upside down. Firefighters worked with the park’s engineers to manually lower the ride and the patrons were all medically evaluated on the scene. No injuries were reported, but one rider with a pre-existing medical condition went to the hospital for further evaluation as a precaution. The ride, called AtmosFEAR, swings riders completely upside down. It has been in service since 2021 with no prior incidents, though the ride will remain closed until further notice. The amusement park, which first opened in 1905, released an official statement which included “We wish to express our deepest appreciation to the first responders and our staff for taking prompt action, leading to a positive outcome today, and to the rest of the park guests who swiftly followed directions to vacate the park to make way for the emergency responders to attend to the situation.”

‘BLUE BEETLE’ ANIMATED SERIES IN WORKS AT DC06/14/24 @ 5:36 pm EST
Source: Deadline | Categories: DC | Comments (0) | E-mail Article | Add a CommentWarner Bros. Animation and DC Studios are looking to continue telling Blue Beetle stories via an animated series currently in development, Deadline is reporting. Miguel Puga (
The Casagrandes) has been working on the project since early this year and will serve as the project’s showrunner and director with Cristian Martinez (
Women of the Movement,
Good Trouble) set as writer. Angel Manuel Soto and Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer, director and screenwriter of the 2023 film, respectively, will executive produce alongside John Rikard who served in the same capacity on the film. Galen Vaisman, who was an EP on the film, will oversee the animated TV series for DC Studios. Many things are still in flux including contracts for any main cast; however, many reportedly have been approached and DC has received a positive response regarding returns. The animated series will reportedly build on the movie, developed under DC Studios’ previous regime, but will divert from telling the same story. Instead, the show will create its own story which, in success, could potentially lead to a return to the big screen for the giant blue bug portrayed by Xolo Maridueña.
