LA OPERA PRESENTING 1931 SPANISH-LANGUAGE ‘DRACULA’ WITH LIVE ORCHESTRA, NEW SCORE10/04/24 @ 2:53 pm EST
Source: Hollywood Reporter | Categories: Dracula | Comments (0) | E-mail Article | Add a CommentJust in time for Halloween, the LA Opera has put together a spectacular treat for movie and music lovers: a screening of the rarely-seen 1931 Spanish-language
Dracula, complete with a newly-commissioned score by two-time Oscar-winning composer Gustavo Santaolalla. The music will be played live by the LA Opera Orchestra under the direction of resident conductor Lina González-Granados. The Argentine-born Santaolalla, 73, also will play electric guitar (but not his signature ronroco). Suitably, the screenings on Oct. 25, 26 and 27 will take place at the gothic United Theater — a 1,600-seat palace that first opened in 1927 — in downtown Los Angeles. There will be English subtitles, and the audience is invited to come in costume. (via The Hollywood Reporter)
BOX OFFICE: 'JOKER: FOLIE à DEUX' MAKES $7M IN PREVIEWS10/04/24 @ 2:42 pm EST
Source: Deadline | Categories: DC | Comments (0) | E-mail Article | Add a CommentWarner Bros’ Todd Phillips-directed sequel
Joker: Folie à Deux earned $7M in previews that began at 3 p.m. Thursday. The number indicates that the $190M+ movie could get to a $50M opening, particularly when comped against movies that exceeded that threshold in their starts such as
Mission: Impossible: Dead Reckoning – Part One ($7M last year),
No Time to Die ($6.3M in 2021) and
John Wick: Chapter 3: Parabellum ($5.9M in 2019). Forget about the fact that
Joker 2's previews are off by 47% from the first 2019 film’s $13.3M, which mushroomed to a $39.3M Friday and the biggest October domestic opening of all time with $96.2M. We knew that was going to happen. What’s not funny is the Comscore/Screen Engine PostTrak audience exits for
Joker 2, which tell a different story. While many knew this Joaquin Phoenix-Lady Gaga combo would be challenged due to the fact that it’s a musical, the fanboys full-out seemed to reject the sequel last night on PostTrak with a 1/2 star and 40% positive. Holy guacamole, Batman! (via Deadline)

Deadpool & Wolverine — which released on digital platforms October 1st — snikt'd the record for the best first-day seller of 2024 on Fandango at Home. Fandango's video-on-demand streaming service (formerly Vudu) announced Tuesday that the R-rated MCU movie, which teams Ryan Reynolds' Deadpool and Hugh Jackman's Wolverine for the first time, topped the day-one sales of the other most-watched movies on the service, including the animated
Inside Out 2 and
Despicable Me 4, the Blake Lively-starring romantic drama
It Ends With Us, and summer blockbusters
Bad Boys: Ride or Die and
Twisters. The Marvel Studios movie shattered box office records when it hit theaters over the summer, including passing 2019's
Joker as the highest-grossing R-rated movie ever and scoring the biggest global opening ($439 million) since
Avatar: The Way of Water in 2022. To date,
Deadpool & Wolverine has taken in $1.32 billion, which is the second-best box office performance of the year (behind Disney-Pixar's
Inside Out 2) and only the second movie this year to cross the billion dollar mark. (via ComicBook.com)
STORM IS EARTH'S MIGHTIEST MUTANT IN NEW 'STORM' #1 COMIC TRAILER10/02/24 @ 3:58 pm EST
Source: Marvel | Categories: Storm | Comments (0) | E-mail Article | Add a CommentThe day has finally arrived! STORM #1, one of the most anticipated comic launches of the year, hit stands today! In the new ongoing series, acclaimed writer Murewa Ayodele and superstar artist Lucas Werneck take STORM to new heights as a solo super hero. See why Ororo Munroe is Earth’s Mightiest Mutant in an all-new
STORM #1 launch trailer, featuring never-before-seen artwork from the debut issue. The epic trailer gives fans a whirlwind look at Storm’s new status quo from her stunning new costume to the Sanctuary, her new base of operations in Atlanta. In a grand opening worthy of this iconic character, STORM #1 pits Storm against the first in a series of Omega-level threats as she flies headfirst into a potential nuclear meltdown. As she cements her role as the world’s prime protector, her actions and decisions will impact the greater Marvel Universe and draw the attention (and admiration) of omnipotent cosmic forces like Oblivion as well as supervillains that match her standing such as Doctor Doom! “Storm taking on the responsibility of being Earth's protector is a natural progression, not only as a result of the Krakoan Era, but the as a result of her entire publication history,” Ayodele said. “And with the fall of Krakoa hitting the mutants so hard and putting her homeworld at great risk, Storm is determined to not let that happen again.”
