5
MINUTES WITH: BRIAN MICHAEL BENDIS
This
guy needs no introduction, right? One of the most prolific
creators working in comics today, everything the man touches
gets fans talking, and buying.
Now, he tackles the time honored tradition of the big ol'
crossover with House of M and he took a few minutes out of
his busy schedule to talk with us about it!
DF: HOUSE
OF M IS A BIG OL' CROSSOVER. HOW HARD IS IT TO WORK ON SOMETHING
THAT REQUIRES SO MUCH EDITORIAL COORDINATION?
BENDIS: I know, it's weird. It starts off as this idea
in your head and all of a sudden there's this giant machine
pushing it forward. But the cool part is I have Tom Breevort
leading one of Marvel's best ever editorial crews on this,
so I get the fun part, he does the hard part.
DF: HOW
WILL THIS SERIES AFFECT THE MIGHTY MARVEL U?
BENDIS: Profoundly. I am happy to say. This is a real
barn burner.
DF: ARE
YOU THE SOLE ARCHITECT?
BENDIS: I was the initial architect. I started the ball
rolling and am author of the primary series, but the other
writers and artists all contributed their own ideas.
DF: THE
BIG OL' CROSSOVER IS A COMICS TRADITION, WHAT'S A FAVORITE
OF YOURS FROM THE PAST?
BENDIS: Oh, I do love a smattering of the cross company
crossovers. X-Men/Teen Titans was a great one. Big fan of
the enormity of the original Crisis [on Infinite Earths].
DF: WHAT'S
COMING UP IN ULTIMATE SPIDEY?
BENDIS: Hobgoblin is going full force, then we have
a big arc called Warriors. It's Kingpin versus Hammerhead
with the Black Cat, Elektra, Iron Fist, Moon Knight, and Shang
Chi in the mix.
DF: HOW
ABOUT OVER IN NEW AVENGERS?
BENDIS: Well, we're wrapping up our first arc which
will lay the foundation for the larger story. Then comes the
Sentry and the mystery Avenger.
DF: AND
POWERS? YOU'VE GOT AN ANIIVERSAY ISSUE COMING UP.
BENDIS: Powers, I think, will be the shocker of the
bunch. We're really going all out. We always pride it on being
the superhero book neither company can do. As far as the twists,
you know, it's so much fun to do, you kind of just not worry
about it and let the characters dig their own holes. You know.
The twists just come. It's so much fun to ride.
DF: WHAT
ARE YOU READING THESE DAYS? LISTENING TO? WATCHING?
BENDIS: Reading Astonish X-Men, Captain America, Runaways.
Listening to M.I.A., LCD Soundsystem, Distillers. Watching
Lost and Celebrity Poker Showdown.
