An epic miniseries three decades in the making from the minds of TMNT co-creators Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin takes place in a future New York City far different from the one we know today, where a lone surviving Turtle goes on a seemingly hopeless mission to obtain justice for his fallen family and friends. The debut issue hit stands on October 28th, immediately selling out and prompting a new printing that features a re-colored cover by Eastman, Esau Escorza, and Isaac Escorza.

The Last Ronin is based on an unpublished 1987 story concept by Eastman and Laird, with script by Tom Waltz, layouts by Eastman, pencils and inks by Esau and Isaac Escorza, colors by Luis Antonio Delgado, letters by Shawn Lee, and edits by Bobby Curnow. The series will run for five issues, with each issue oversized at 7” x 11” and 48 pages in length. There's been quite a bit of buzz around The Mandalorian season 2, especially in regards to what it set up for both the core show and its spinoff The Book of Boba Fett.

With the announcement of Boba Fett, some were worried about what that meant for The Mandalorian season 3, but it was later revealed that the show is not ending anytime soon, and now we know season 3 is set to start filming April 5th in Los Angeles.

Obviously that date could be pushed back due to pandemic-related reasons, but for now things seem to be on track for it, and that should make Star Wars fans quite happy. (via ComicBook)

The Mandalorian season 3 and The Book of Boba Fett are both scheduled to launch on Disney+ sometime in 2021.

Deadline reports that MGM has set Misha Green to write and make her feature directorial debut on the next Tomb Raider, which has Alicia Vikander set to reprise her role as Lara Croft. Green steps up here after creating and directing Lovecraft Country, the breakout HBO series that stars Jurnee Smollett, Jonathan Majors, and Michael Kenneth Williams.

Tomb Raider will be produced by Graham King via his GK Films banner, and Elizabeth Cantillon via The Cantillon Company.

Green is the showrunner and executive producer of Lovecraft Country, alongside Jordan Peele and J.J. Abrams and based on the novel by Matt Ruff. She separately wrote and is producing The Mother, which sold in a competitive situation to Netflix and is also producing Warner Brothers’ Cleopatra Jones and Makeready’s The Gilded Ones. Green previously co-created, executive produced and wrote the WGN series Underground, which broke ratings records during its first season and was the first scripted U.S. television show that focused on slavery and the Underground Railroad. Underground was nominated for four NAACP Image Awards and a TCA Award for Outstanding New Program by the Television Critics Association.

Vikander’s first turn in 2018’s Tomb Raider grossed around $275M at the global box office. MGM’s Tomb Raider will be released theatrically in the U.S. via the studio’s distribution and marketing joint venture United Artists Releasing, and internationally through Warner Bros.

A Black Lady Sketch Show head writer Lauren Ashley Smith is set to write and exec produce the U.S. remake of British comedy Timewasters, which is in the works at ABC.

The single-camera comedy comes from CBS Studios. ABC is developing the remake of ITV2’s time-traveling jazz comedy as part of its second-cycle development process.

Timewasters was created by Daniel Lawrence Taylor, who also starred in it, and ran for two seasons on ITV2 in the UK. It was nominated for a BAFTA in 2018 for Best Scripted Comedy alongside Michaela Coel’s Chewing Gum and Sharon Horgan and Rob Delaney’s Catastrophe as well as the winner BBC mockumentary This Country, which is being remade at Fox.

The U.S. adaptation will revolve around four Black twentysomething New Yorkers who accidentally end up in the year 1926, despite being deeply unenthusiastic about and deeply unequipped for time travel. The series follows the foursome’s often-bumbling attempts to survive and thrive in the Harlem Renaissance as it explores what it means to be Black in 2021, what it means to be Black in 1926 and the unique experience of being Black in both time periods. Deadline reports that Fox has put in development Cocky, an animated comedy from The Knick creators Jack Amiel and Michael Begler, Fox Entertainment and animation house Bento Box Entertainment (Bob’s Burgers).

Written by Amiel and Begler, Cocky is the story of Bert, a rideshare driver with a Ph.D., who is the smartest idiot in the world, and what happens when a guy who lacks any filter whatsoever lives with the most insecure, overly-sensitive talking Cockatoo on the planet.

Amiel and Begler executive produce with Michael Sugar (Spotlight, The Knick). The project is a co-production of Fox Entertainment and Bento Box.

Cocky reunites Amiel and Begler with Sugar, who served as an executive producer on The Knick. Sugar’s additional producing credits include Oscar-winning Spotlight and The OA, among many others.

A brand new Peanuts series is making its way to Apple TV+ very soon!

Apple's streaming platform has made itself a home for popular original TV projects, such as The Morning Show and Ted Lasso. The streamer is hoping to continue that streak of success with a new venture into the world of the Charles Schulz Peanuts characters.

The new series is called The Snoopy Show, and it premieres on Apple TV+ in February. With less than two weeks left until the premiere, Apple has released a full trailer for the upcoming title.

A Harry Potter live-action TV series is in early development at HBO Max. Sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that executives at the WarnerMedia-backed streamer have engaged in multiple conversations with potential writers exploring various ideas that would bring the beloved property to television. Sources say broad ideas have been discussed as part of the early-stage exploratory meetings.

While it's news that executives at HBO Max and Warners are engaged in meetings to find a writer and pitch for a Harry Potter TV series, no writers or talent are currently attached as the conversations are still in the extremely early stages and no deals have been made. "There are no Harry Potter series in development at the studio or on the streaming platform," HBO Max and Warner Bros. reaffirmed in a statement to THR.

Expanding the world of Harry Potter remains a top priority for HBO Max and Warner Bros., which along with creator J.K. Rowling, controls rights to the property. Harry Potter is one of Warners' most valuable pieces of IP.

News that talks are under way for a Harry Potter TV series should come as no surprise given the value of the franchise to Warner Bros. Rowling's seven-book series was adapted as eight feature films that grossed more than $7 billion worldwide. Warners also has the Fantastic Beasts prequel series of films, with the third set to bow next year and two more likely to come afterward.
