SABRA IN ‘CAPTAIN AMERICA 4' STILL ISRAELI BUT NOT MOSSAD, NO LONGER MUTANT: PRODUCER02/07/25 @ 1:29 pm EST
Source: Variety | Categories: Marvel | Comments (0) | E-mail Article | Add a Comment
The team behind “Captain America: Brave New World” recently opened up to The National about introducing Ruth Bat-Seraph (aka Sabra) into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, a decision that sparked controversy when news broke in September 2022 that “Unorthodox” Emmy nominee Shira Haas was cast in the role. Sabra is an Israeli superhero and a Mossad agent in the comics. The character’s inclusion in the MCU raised concerns among Palestinians, although Marvel assured fans worldwide that Sabra would be “reworked” for the big screen.
Just how Sabra has been reworked for her MCU debut is now being revealed. After months of speculation and rumors that Marvel had dropped the character’s Israeli ties (which then sparked backlash in Israel), “Captain America: Brave New World” producer Nate Moore now confirms Sabra is an Israeli in the final movie.
“She’s Israeli, but she’s not Mossad. Now she works in the U.S. government,” Moore said.
And it’s not just Sabra’s ties to Mossad that have been cut from the MCU. As Moore explained, the character also no longer has such mutant abilities as superhuman strength and speed.

'CAPTAIN AMERICA 4' DIRECTOR EXPLAINS BETTY ROSS' LONG-AWAITED MCU RETURN02/06/25 @ 9:34 pm EST
Source: SuperHeroHype | Categories: Marvel | Comments (0) | E-mail Article | Add a Comment
Captain America: Brave New World director Julius Onah has opened up about why the long-awaited return of Liv Tyler‘s Betty Ross is happening in a Captain America sequel instead of a Hulk project.
Tyler’s Betty Ross was one of the first characters introduced in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, making her debut in the franchise’s second installment, The Incredible Hulk, which was released in 2008 during Phase 1. While other Phase 1 heroes, and their supporting characters, returned in Phase 2 for their respective sequels, only Bruce Banner/Hulk — now played by Mark Ruffalo instead of Edward Norton — was brought back, although not for an Incredible Hulk sequel, leaving Betty Ross, her father Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross, and the Abomination behind.
Speaking with The Official Marvel Podcast, Onah explained why Brave New World was the perfect time to bring Betty Ross back, noting the importance the character plays while onscreen opposite her father, the recently elected U.S. President Ross, now played by Harrison Ford following Hurt’s 2022 death.
“It was sort of a no-brainer to bring Liv back,” the filmmaker said. “She just has this real humanity to her. […] The relationship she ends up having with Thaddeus Ross in this film is a real big part of his journey of trying to cement his legacy and redefine who he has been as a human being and as a leader.”

ROB LIEFELD WILL NO LONGER WORK WITH MARVEL AFTER ‘DEADPOOL & WOLVERINE’ PREMIERE INDIGNITIES02/06/25 @ 3:54 pm EST
Source: Hollywood Reporter | Categories: Marvel | Comments (0) | E-mail Article | Add a Comment
Rob Liefeld is done with Marvel.
The comic artist and creator says that after more than thirty years, he is severing ties with the publisher for whom he created renowned characters Deadpool and Cable.
Liefeld laid out his decision in a 90-minute episode of his
Robservations podcast as well as in a followup interview with The Hollywood Reporter, where he detailed a series of perceived slights at July’s New York premiere of
Deadpool & Wolverine.
At the premiere, Liefeld learned he and his family were not invited to the afterparty, something he was accustomed to attending. He also felt snubbed by Disney brass, including Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige, whom he says was near him on the red carpet but did not acknowledge him.
“It was meant to embarrass, diminish, defeat me,” Liefeld said on his podcast of not gaining access to the after party.
And there was another apparent slight: Liefeld said he posed for professional photos with creatives on the
Deadpool & Wolverine team, but later was told by his publicist that those photos were deleted. He believes they were only taken as a courtesy and not intended to be used, though other photos, featuring Liefeld alone as well as with his family, appeared as part of Disney’s Getty press portal from the event.
Soon after July’s premiere, he decided he would cut ties with Marvel, which he believed no longer wanted him around. “At some point, you go, ‘I’ve received the message, and the message is clear,'” he said on the podcast. (via The Hollywood Reporter)

“Victorious” has another spinoff in the works, with Daniella Monet set to reprise her role as Trina Vega in a multi-cam Nickelodeon comedy with the working title “Hollywood Arts,” Variety has confirmed.
The series, which is in development and has not yet been greenlit, will follow Trina as she returns to her old stomping grounds to teach students at the fictional Los Angeles performing arts high school. It would mark the second spinoff of “Victorious,” following “Sam & Cat,” starring Jennette McCurdy and Ariana Grande.
Casting is underway for the spinoff, and it’s unclear whether any other “Victorious” stars — including Victoria Justice — will reprise their roles in “Hollywood Arts.” KIERNAN SHIPKA & MCKENNA GRACE TO STAR IN PICTURESTART THRILLER ‘THE NOWHERE GAME’02/06/25 @ 3:26 pm EST

Kiernan Shipka (

Scream 7) have signed on to star in
The Nowhere Game, a survival thriller to be produced by Erik Feig’s Picturestart.

The film follows Carin (Grace) and Allie (Shipka), whose road trip takes a harrowing turn when the two young women are kidnapped by a cold-blooded sadist and thrust into a brutal game of survival. With no sign of civilization and no way to call for help, the women rely on their wits and each other to evade capture. Navigating the hostile wilderness, they discover eerie clues left behind by previous “contestants,” painting a grim picture of the stakes they face. BEN AFFLECK TO STAR AND DIRECT NETFLIX THRILLER 'ANIMALS'02/05/25 @ 8:55 pm EST
Source: Deadline | Categories: MIsc | Comments (0) | E-mail Article | Add a Comment
Ben Affleck is ramping things up on his upcoming Netflix thriller
Animals. He not only will direct the pic but star as well, Deadline is reporting. Insiders add that Gillian Anderson also is aboard. The plan is for the film to shoot in Los Angeles from a script by Connor McIntyre and Billy Ray.
Plot details are being kept under wraps other than the film revolving around a kidnapping.
Affleck was eyeing this film as his next directing outing last year but was only planning to direct, with Matt Damon in line for the starring role. A holdup with the rights delayed start of production, and Affleck ultimately had to move on to a sequel to
The Accountant with
Animals pushing. Affleck still wanted to make
Animals, and after starring alongside Damon in another Netflix and Artists Equity crime thriller
RIP, which will bow later this year on the streamer, saw an opportunity to make
Animals his next movie.
