RYAN REYNOLDS LEARNED A MAJOR LESSON ON DEADPOOL07/20/24 @ 12:41 pm EST
Source: New York Times | Comments (0) | E-mail Article | Add a CommentSometimes it’s hard to believe what
Ryan Reynolds and everyone involved in the first
Deadpool movie had to go through to get the film made. Leaking the test footage, whoever that was, was only the beginning of signs that Fox had zero faith in the film. Reynolds told the New York Times, “No part of me was thinking when
Deadpool was finally greenlit that this would be a success. I even let go of getting paid to do the movie just to put it back on the screen: They wouldn’t allow my co-writers
Rhett Reese and
Paul Wernick on set, so I took the little salary I had left and paid them to be on set with me so we could form a de facto writers room.” Reynolds said he learned from that. “I think one of the great enemies of creativity is too much time and money, and that movie had neither time nor money. It really fostered focusing on character over spectacle, which is a little harder to execute in a comic-book movie. I was just so invested in every micro-detail of it, and I hadn’t felt like that in a long, long time. I remembered wanting to feel that more — not just on
Deadpool, but on anything.” Reese and Wernick are back for
Deadpool & Wolverine, joined by
Zeb Wells and director
Shawn Levy. The movie hits theaters July 26th.

Gargoyles saga. Gargoyles tales, an unexpected crossover for the ages!
The original Dynamite era
Gargoyles creative team of writer Greg Weisman, artist George Kambadais, and letterer Jeff Eckleberry reunite for this epic tale.

Key members of the Manhattan Clan, including Goliath, Elisa Maza, Brooklyn, Katana and Nashville have been invited on a tour of one of the most impressive and technologically advanced buildings in their adopted home of New York City — the Baxter Building. Everything goes awry when a fearsome cast of foes from both mythos cross paths, including Coldsteel, the Gargoyle aka Yuri Topolov, and the deadly Annihilus.

Then both families — including Mister Fantastic, Invisible Woman, the Thing, the Human Torch, Broadway and Angela — will have to team up, split into teams, and save the day across Manhattan, the Negative Zone, and beyond.
"This is a tale of clan and family," said writer Greg Weisman. "And it's a thrill to get this opportunity to bring the first family of the Marvel Universe together with the Manhattan Clan. It feels right!"

VAMPIRELLA ENTERS THE ARMAGEDDON IN TOM SNIEGOSKI'S NEXT EPIC04/24/25 @ 11:49 am EST
Source: Dynamite | Categories: Vampirella | Comments (0) | E-mail Article | Add a Comment
The countdown to destruction begins this July, as fan-favorite writer Tom Sniegoski and the Daughter of Drakulon reunite for their next epic together in
Vampirella: Armageddon!
In a post-apocalyptic world stands Sepulcher City, a haven for humanity’s survivors, as well as for beings of the supernatural. As in any great metropolis the threat of evil looms, but in Sepulcher there is a difference. Vampirella calls this city her home and will do whatever it takes to protect its residents from the encroaching darkness. As a new age private investigator set up in the Menagerie, an area of the city designated for the more monstrous inhabitants, Vampirella and her newfound werewolf partner Dagwood think they are prepared for anything that might come their way. They're wrong!
When busloads of immigrants coming to walled city to make Sepulcher their home go missing, the raven-haired anti-heroine will have to find out how it connects to a decision from her past, and how it's all linked to a turbulent war being waged in the depths of Hell.
Tom Sniegoski, the most prolific creator in Vampirella's half-century and running history, is back to add to his well over 100 credits with the character. He's joined by artist Kewber Baal (
Elvira Meets H.P. Lovecraft, Vengeance of Vampirella) for the hotly anticipated follow up to 2022's
Vampirella Strikes.

On his continuing tales of the character, Sniegoski shared, "It’s like slipping into a nice warm sweater. Out of all the characters I’ve written, I seem to find her the most comfortable to write. I just get her — her, and the world in which she lives. It’s always a blast sitting down to come up with her next adventures."
Sniegoski is set to fire on all cylinders, both for fans who have been following his Vampi mythos for over 30 years and total newcomers ready to experience the longest running vampire characters in comic books. Longtime fans will be excited to see the re-introduction of some characters from the 1990s era of the character, while newer fans can jump right into this exciting series full of action, intrigue, and horror in July!
The first issue of
Vampirella: Armageddon features variant covers by Francesco Mattina, Lesley "Leirix" Li, and Joseph Michael Linsner. The modern era's most prolific Vampirella cosplay cover model, Rachel Hollon returns as well. Last but certainly not least, one of the industry's scorching superstars in Mark Spears adds a cover — actually two covers, in the form of a fun connecting cover swap with his own smash hit Mark Spears' Monsters series. More information about this thrilling crossover is announced separately!

VAMPIRELLA: ARMAGEDDON #1
is solicited in Diamond Comic Distributors’ May 2025 Previews catalog, the premier source of merchandise for the comic book specialty market, and slated for release in July 2025. SKATEBOARDING GRAPHIC NOVEL 'GROMMETS' HITS SHELVES THIS JULY04/23/25 @ 9:59 am EST
Source: Image Comics | Categories: Image Comics | Comments (0) | E-mail Article | Add a CommentBreakout bestseller
Grommets by Eisner Award nominated and
The New York Times bestselling writer Rick Remender (
Napalm Lullaby, Deadly Class, LOW), Emmy award nominated comedian and writer Brian Posehn (
Deadpool, The Mandalorian, Scotch McTiernan: Holiday Party), artistic powerhouse Brett Parson (
Tank Girl), and colorist extraordinaire Moreno Dinisio (
Black Science) will be collected in its entirety into trade paperback and available this July from Image Comics.
Since the series first launched in 2024,
Grommets has gone on to sell out at the distributor level and gone back to print multiple times. Sales for the series have increased from issue-to-issue as the story has gained momentum.
In
Grommets, two outcast best friends navigate the Sacramento suburbs of 1984, where they find a home in skateboard culture and punk rock. The perfect read for fans of John Hughes' Brat Pack teen movies,
Freaks & Geeks, and
Dazed & Confused.
Grommets is both an authentic look at ’80s skate culture—a snapshot of the generation that turned skating into a worldwide phenomenon—as well as a heartfelt coming-of-age story following two friends from troubled homes navigating their damage in an era when no one cared.
The series’ title springs from skater slang, a “grommet” is a commonly used term for a young up-and-coming skater or surfer. Since the ’60s it’s been used to describe the next generation of kids who, with youthful exuberance, love the sport but want to put their spin on it.
“To share such a raw part of ourselves with the world and have it received so warmly—it’s truly the most any creator can hope for," said Remender. “At Giant Generator, we let creativity and love guide our choices, because that’s the only way to connect on a sincere level. And when it does, it’s a beautiful thing.”
Grommets trade paperback (ISBN: 9781534366480, Lunar Code 0125IM460) will collect
Grommets issues #1-7, the complete series, and be available at local
comic book shops on Wednesday, June 25 and independent bookstores, Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Books-a-Million, Indigo, and Waterstones on Tuesday, July 8.
Grommets is also available across many digital platforms, including Amazon Kindle, Apple Books, Google Play, and Omnibus.
