THRALAN MENKEN REVEALS DISNEY+Â’S 'BEAUTY AND THE BEAST' PREQUEL TITLE07/31/20 @ 10:09 pm EST
reports that cult Ubisoft video game Beyond Good & Evil
is getting the movie treatment at Netflix.
Rob Letterman, who directed Detective Pikachu and Goosebumps, is on board to helm the hybrid live-action/animated feature.
Jason Altman and Margaret Boykin are producing for Ubisoft Film & Television.
Beyond takes place in the 25th century on a remote mining planet that is under alien attack. The military rulers that promised to defend the population may be in league with the invaders. In this environment, a young photojournalist named Jade is recruited to be part of an underground resistance movement.
The game was launched in 2003 to decidedly mixed results. It was a nominee for game of the year even as it was a failure when it was released, and a hoped-for trilogy never materialized. However, over the years it developed a cult following and in 2017 Ubisoft announced a prequel was in the works.
Netflix’s adaptation is in early development and a search for writers to adapt the game is underway.

NETFLIX REPORTEDLY DEVELOPING CURSED SPINOFF FOR MERLIN07/31/20 @ 10:00 pm EST
Disney+ continues to add more and more original content since it launched last November. One of the new shows that is being worked on is a prequel for Beauty and the Beast
that will follow Gaston and LaFou. It has been known that Luke Evans and Josh Gad will be returning for this series that is focused on the original story’s villain and takes place before the events of Beauty and the Beast.
It also has been known that there would be a musical component. Beyond that, not a lot about the series has been revealed.
In a recent interview, however, Disney legend Alan Menken revealed the title of the series. Menken said, “I’m excited about the projects I’m doing. I’m working on Disenchanted
and a new Beauty and the Beast
prequel, The Little Town
It appears that the title of this Beauty and the Beast
prequel series is in reference to the opening number of the movie, Little Town.
This could provide some clues about the setting for the series at some level. However, seeing that details are scarce, don’t read too much into this title. Also, titles can change. Until the title has been confirmed by Disney, this should be considered a working title. (via DAPS Magic

WYND #2 SELLS OUT AND RETURNS WITH SECOND PRINTING07/31/20 @ 9:46 pm EST
Female-driven Arthurian story Cursed
continues to dominate as the most popular scripted series on Netflix. There’s almost no doubt that Nimue will be back for further adventures, but we’ve now heard the show’s breakout character could be set to headline his own spinoff. We Got This Covered
reports that Gustaf Skarsgard’s Merlin will star in a solo series that will follow his adventures as a warrior with Excalibur by his side, after Cursed
briefly showed how the sword drove him mad with power and saw him turn his back on his people and abandon the use of magic altogether.
star stole almost every scene he was in as Merlin, so it doesn’t come as a surprise that Netflix would be keen to cash in on his popularity and keep building on a mythology of which they have barely scratched the surface in the first 10 episodes of Cursed
