BOOM! Studios announced today thatANGEL #1, reimagining the cult hit phenomenon from the very beginning in partnership with 20th Century Fox Consumer Products, has sold out! To meet this overwhelming demand, ANGEL #1 SECOND PRINTING will arrive in stores on July 10, 2019 with a stunning variant cover by Mondo illustrator Boris Pelcer.

Acclaimed comic book and television writer Bryan Edward Hill (American Carnage, Titans) and artist Gleb Melnikov, along with series creator and story consultant Joss Whedon (the visionary writer/director behind Firefly, Marvel’s The Avengers, and more), sends Angel to Sunnydale for the first time on a mission that’ll eventually put him face-to-face with the Slayer and change the fate of the entire world.

Created by visionary writer and director Joss Whedon (Marvel’s The Avengers film franchise), Angel premiered on the WB Network on October 5th, 1999 and was a spin-off from Buffy The Vampire Slayer. The series ran for five seasons from 1999–2004, starring David Boreanaz as Angel, the tortured vampire destined to walk the earth with a soul who moved to LA to set up shop as a supernatural private investigator. Despite Angel’s best efforts to deal with the sins of his past all by himself, Angel Investigations soon became home to other lost souls searching for redemption and willing to fight by his side.

ANGEL is the newest release from BOOM! Studios’ eponymous imprint, home to critically acclaimed original series, including Once & Future by Kieron Gillen and Dan Mora; Faithless by Brian Azzarello and Maria Llovet; Abbott from Saladin Ahmed and Sami Kivelä; Bury The Lede from Gaby Dunn and Claire Roe; Grass Kings from Matt Kindt and Tyler Jenkins; and Klaus from Grant Morrison and Dan Mora. The imprint also publishes popular licensed properties including Joss Whedon’s Firefly from Greg Pak and Dan McDaid; Buffy The Vampire Slayer from Jordie Bellaire and David Lopez; and Mighty Morphin Power Rangers from Ryan Parrott and Danielle Di Nicuolo.

Print copies of ANGEL #1 SECOND PRINTING will be available for sale on July 10, 2019 exclusively at local comic book shops (use comicshoplocator.com to find the nearest one). Digital copies can be purchased from content providers, including comiXology, iBooks, Google Play, and the BOOM! Studios app.

AMAZON'S 'THE BOYS' IS BIGGER THAN ANY MARVEL NETFLIX SHOW
09/16/19 @ 12:02 pm EST
Source: Screen Rant | Categories: The-Boys | Comments (0) | E-mail Article | Add a Comment
Image result for Boys popular than Netflix Marvel series imagesMarvel and DC aren't the only comic book publishers, and rivals like Amazon and Netflix are commissioning lesser-known properties from other publishers that are already proving to be a hit. Like Amazon's The Boys. But just how popular is The Boys? Data analytics firm Parrot Analytics provided information to Screen Rant, comparing The Boys to the first seasons of the various Marvel Netflix shows. The Boys was released in the same way as all four Marvel Netflix shows, with all episodes dropping at once, but it didn't follow the traditional streaming pattern. Instead, interest continued to increase over the next fortnight after release, peaking two weeks later. This is probably related to strong word-of-mouth, but may also reflect Amazon's continued marketing of the series. Surprisingly, demand then remained at an elevated level for much of the first month. It's shown signs of dropping towards a base level now, but that is likely to be far higher than the Marvel Netflix one.The obvious question is just why The Boys has proven to be so popular. In part, it's just plain good. Also, The Boys season 1 is only eight episodes in length, avoiding all the pacing problems that were associated with Marvel Netflix's 13-episode seasons. The release is also perfectly timed; the superhero genre is far more mainstream in 2019 than it was even in 2015, and superhero tropes have been absorbed into popular culture. The Boys subverts all these tropes in entertaining, original, and occasionally uncomfortable ways. The script adapts a classic comic book story, resetting it as a David-versus-Goliath narrative with a remarkable amount of heart. The Boys proves that a well-made, well-marketed superhero TV series inspired by a lesser-known brand can still compete -- and even perform better than the inaugural seasons of the Marvel Netflix range.

The wins included an impressive though not unexpected seventh honor for special visual effects

Game of Thrones grabbed 10 awards at the Creative Arts Emmys on Sunday night, more than any other nominated project. The 2019 Creative Arts Emmy Awards took place over two nights, Saturday and tonight, at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.

GoT wins included an impressive though not unexpected seventh honor for special visual effects. It also dominated the picture editing category, and the award ultimately went to editor Tim Porter for the episode “The Long Night,” which features the epic battle at Winterfell. The sound editing and mixing teams also scored Emmys.

Game of Thrones claimed additional Emmys for makeup in the non-prosthetic category — earning department head Jane Walker her sixth Emmy for the series. Nominated costume designer Michele Clapton also grabbed a sixth Emmy for the series, while assistant costume designer Emma O'Loughlin and costume supervisor Kate O'Farrell now have three apiece.

In other creative arts categories, Game of Thrones won trophies for score, title design and stunt coordination. (via The Hollywood Reporter)

ROBERT DOWNEY JR. WILL REPORTEDLY RETURN AS TONY STARK/IRON MAN FOR 'BLACK WIDOW'

Source: ComicBookMovie | Categories: Marvel | Comments (0) | E-mail Article | Add a Comment

Fans thought they had seen the last of Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark when the character was killed off in Avengers: Endgame, but it looks like the actor will return as Iron Man one more time.

In a report on Friday's Saturn Awards, mention was made that Downey Jr. will appear as Stark in next year's solo Black Widow movie. It seemed a bit of a throwaway reveal for what should be fairly major news, so this report might need to be taken with a grain of salt.

ComicBookMovie points out that if this information is accurate, it still doesn't mean the Armored Avenger is going to be resurrected. It's been confirmed that Black Widow is a prequel set between the events of Captain America: Civil War and Endgame. Given the time-frame, Stark showing up does actually make sense.

No other follow-up information has been reported, so stay tuned to DF News for any further developments.

‘KATY KEENE’ & ‘RIVERDALE’ CROSSOVERS TO INCLUDE BOXERS, PUSSYCATS AND SOMEONE’S MOM – TRIBECA TV FESTIVAL

Source: Deadline | Categories: Archie | Comments (0) | E-mail Article | Add a Comment

Deadline reports that Riverdale fans already know some crossover of characters is planned for the CW’s upcoming Katy Keene. But the spin-off’s exec producers and cast teased out a few more details at today’s Tribeca TV Festival panel and pilot screening.

Expect a boxing match. And Pussycats. And Robin Givens.

As for the boxing, one of the regular characters on Katy Keene is K.O. Kelly, Katy’s aspiring boxer boyfriend. In the world premiere of the series pilot-screened today at the fest, K.O. – played by the ultra-ripped Zane Holtz, who makes his first appearance on the show clad only in boxer briefs – expresses his dream to someday spar at Madison Square Garden. (Katy is played by Lucy Hale).

With regard to those Pussycats from Riverdale, even Ashleigh Murray, who is bringing her singer/songwriter Josie McCoy character to the new show from the old, seemed surprised by executive producer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa’s reveal that “We definitely will be seeing the Pussycats, but probably not in the way you expect.”

Katy Keene will be set about five years into Riverdale‘s future – in other words, Josie arrives in New York City to share an apartment with Katy and friends five years after her departure from Riverdale. The time shift slightly complicates crossovers, but apparently not enough to prevent at least some of the original series’ recognizable characters from presenting their future selves at Katy’s fourth floor walk-up apartment in Manhattan’s Washington Heights.

And apparently one of those someones will be Givens’ Sierra McCoy, Josie’s Riverdale mom.

KEVIN FEIGE UNVEILS IRON MAN SCENE TEASING SPIDER-MAN & X-MEN

kevin-feige-saturn-awards-2019-slice

Among the big highlights at the 45th annual Saturn Awards was the unveiling of a never-before-scene post-credits scene from 2008’s Iron Man. Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige did the honors of introducing it during a pre-taped message accepting the first-ever Stan Lee World Builder Award.

The clip made its way to Twitter shortly after it aired at the Saturn Awards on Friday evening. Feige introduced the post-credits scene, saying: “We pulled some things out of that vault that we said, ‘We’ll never show this to anybody, put it away.’ We’re bringing them out, we’re putting them on this disc, and I’m about to show you a deleted scene that has never been seen by anyone before right now.”

The never-before-seen post-credits scene is one of the likely numerous takes filmed by Samuel L. Jackson for Iron Man. In it, we see Jackson as Nick Fury standing at a window in Tony Stark’s home while Robert Downey Jr., as Tony, is heard offscreen. Fury addresses Tony, telling him, “As if gamma accidents, radioactive bug bites and assorted mutants weren’t enough, I have to deal with a spoiled brat (Tony) who doesn’t play well with others and wants to keep all his toys to himself.” (via Collider)

Radioactive bug bites? Assorted mutants? Obviously teases Spider-Man and the X-Men. And -- AND -- in a post-credits scene potentially for the FIRST of the MCU films.

Feige's tease of an Infinity Saga box set aside (more details, please!), this Iron Man post-credits scene is nothing short of incredible.
