‘THE FLASH’ STAR SASHA CALLE GOT HENRY CAVILL’S STAMP OF APPROVAL AS SUPERGIRL

Sasha Calle as Supergirl and Henry Cavill as Superman

Sasha Calle, who plays Supergirl in The Flash, got Henry Cavill’s stamp of approval after she met the actor.

“I met him actually after the movie was done, months later,” Calle told EW. “I gave him a big hug. You know, it’s Henry Cavill, man! Our Man of Steel. He is kind and very proper, and it was a great experience.”

Calle doesn’t share the big screen with Cavill, who played Superman in a number of DC films, but she asked the actor what his thoughts were on her playing Clark Kent’s relative.

“I asked him, ‘Did I make you proud, cuz? Does Superman approve?'” she added. “And he was like, ‘Absolutely. You did a phenomenal job.’ I think, to me, that meant the world, because it’s Henry Cavill, Man of Steel.” (via Deadline)

The Flash will open in theaters June 16.

This standalone, original graphic novel is slated to hit shelves in April 2025 from Image Comics. "As a lifelong fan of crime capers and Jackie Chan films, this is a dream project come true for me," said Kim. "And having it brought to glorious life by Jacob Perez with his vivid, dynamic art is an absolute honor!" SDCC: GAIL SIMONE HAS JAMES BOND IN HER SIGHTS!

Dynamite Entertainment and Ian Fleming Publications Ltd. are excited to announce for San Diego Comic-Con the next legendary comic book author to take on the adventures of James Bond, as Gail Simone enlists for a thrilling story tentatively titled "Iridescent!"

"It's no secret that I'm a huge fan of Ian Fleming's James Bond," said writer Gail Simone. "I like the version that's involved in the meanest part of the secret wars of espionage, the kind of warrior who does his work in the dark. I want the Bond who has dalliances with beautiful women and then goes home to an empty apartment. I want adventure and risk around every corner, with the next betrayal always looming over his head. 'Iridescent' is one of my favorite stories I've ever written, about a character I have loved since I first saw The Man With the Golden Gun years ago. It's high action, big stakes, and a very, very human Bond. I'm grateful to Dynamite and Ian Fleming Publications for asking me to do this dream project!"

"Gail and I, as well as Dynamite as a whole, go back a long way, and she's one of the most talented, enthusiastic, and kindest creators in this industry," said Nick Barrucci, Dynamite CEO and Publisher. "She's been a heavy hitter on everything she's touched, and she's really making another huge impact right now, and we're excited for James Bond to be a crucial part of that. She's long been on our short list of creators we wanted to see with the character, and it's satisfying to see it coming together now. Fans are really going to love her approach!"

Gail Simone is one of the most heralded names in the comics medium and the community at large. She first became known to comics fandom at the turn of the century, writing columns for major outlets, before beginning to write comics herself and rapidly taking center stage in the industry. Her breakout assignment was as a well-remembered chronicler of Deadpool's mishaps for Marvel. She then moved over to DC Comics, where her runs on Birds of Prey, Secret Six, Wonder Woman, Batgirl, and others set the standards for their respective characters, regularly referenced by fans and subsequent creators, and continuously kept in print.

James Bond marks her next major project with Dynamite, a publisher with which she has a close and long-running relationship. Her 2013 tenure writing Red Sonja is considered not only as one of her definitive works, but also as a high water mark for the character. Writers who have followed her in comics and on the upcoming blockbuster film are heavily influenced by her approach. She's returned to the character over the years and taken on other titles with Dynamite.

This James Bond title will also coincide with an overall resurgence of Simone's work in comics, as she will simultaneously be helming Uncanny X-Men, historically one of the bestselling titles in the industry.

Gail will also be speaking about this news and her approach to the 007 character at Dynamite's 20th Anniversary Panel at San Diego Comic-Con on Friday July 26 from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM in room 5AB.

Further details on Simone's story for James Bond, her creative collaborators, and release timing will be shared shortly.

Clockwise Top L-R: Garrett Wareing, Tut Nyout, Charlie Plummer, Ben Wang, Jordan Gonzalez, Joshua Odjick, and Roman Griffin Davis

Lionsgate has commenced production on The Long Walk, its adaptation of the 1979 novel from Stephen King, starring Cooper Hoffman and David Jonsson, adding seven to the cast. The newcomers are Garrett Wareing (Ransom Canyon), Tut Nyout (The Witcher: Blood Origin), Charlie Plummer (National Anthem), Ben Wang (American Born Chinese), Jordan Gonzalez (Pretty Little Liars: Summer School), Joshua Odjick (Welcome to Derry), and Roman Griffin Davis (Jojo Rabbit). Details as to their roles are under wraps. Originally published under King’s pseudonym Richard Bachman, The Long Walk focuses on a dystopian America that is entertained by the Long Walk — a competition in which 50 teenage boys walk without rest. Each competitor must keep walking faster than three miles per hour — or risk being eliminated. Francis Lawrence (The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes) is directing from a script by JT Mollner. (via Deadline)
TIM SEELEY, ORIGINAL HACK/SLASH ARTIST STEFANO CASELLI RETEAM FOR 'HACK/SLASH: BODY BAGS' MASHUP
07/24/24 @ 1:48 pm EST
Source: Image Comics | Categories: Image | Comments (0) | E-mail Article | Add a Comment

Eisner Award nominated creator Tim Seeley will team up with original Hack/Slash artist Stefano Caselli to bring legendary Jason Pearson’s iconic Body Bags characters back to the page in the upcoming Hack/Slash: Body Bags mashup. This four-issue miniseries—featuring Pearson’s beloved characters crossed over into the world of fan-favorite Cassie Hack—will hit shelves in October from Image Comics. When slasher hunters Cassie Hack & Vlad roll into Terminus, Georgia in search of a killer… they're instantly up to their asses in bounty hunters! Meanwhile, Mack "Clownface" Delgado needs to school his daughter Panda in the ways of Bodybagging, and it needs to happen quickly, which means a private school lock-in for baggers in training—and a teen-slicing slasher. Big knives, short skirts, and swear words will fly. “Tim reached out a little over a year ago via our mutual friend, Cully Hamner, one of Jason’s former studio mates at Gaijin Studios, with the idea to do this crossover,” said Keven Gardner, friend and former Publisher to the late Pearson. “To be honest, before talking with Tim, my initial reaction was, ‘probably not.’ This was about six months after Jason’s passing, his mom was in the middle of settling his estate—it just wasn’t something on her radar or mine. But, after I spoke with Tim it was immediately clear that he was a huge fan of Body Bags, that Jason’s work had been a strong influence on him, and that this was something he and Stefano really wanted to do. We talked about possible ideas, and I could see how this could be something special.” Caselli added: “Jason’s Body Bags is one of the biggest reasons I’m a comic book artist today.” "Body Bags was my favorite comic of the late 90s, and its influence on Hack/Slash is probably pretty evident (see Vlad.)," said Seeley. "We're so proud to bring Jason's characters back, and re-introduce them to old and new fans." “Stefano told me about he and Jason got to be friends and would Skype sometimes when they were both at their drawing tables, and how he wanted to help Jason’s legacy live on by doing this crossover,” said Gardner. “As Stefano talked about why he wanted to do this and his friendship with Jason, it really got to me emotionally. All the concerns I had about doing this without Jason just went away; I knew Mack and Panda were in good hands. Plus, Tim’s idea for the story was so good—it’s set over one night in Terminus, right after the initial Body Bags story from 1996, Father’s Day, ends.”

Hack/Slash: Body Bags #1 will be available at comic book shops on Wednesday, October 23:

SDCC: 'THE TERMINATOR' RETURNS TO THE PRESENT WITH NEW COMICS!
07/23/24 @ 8:38 pm EST
Source: Dynamite | Categories: MIsc | Comments (0) | E-mail Article | Add a Comment

Following news of the licensing partnership between Dynamite Entertainment and STUDIOCANAL and an exciting six-figures campaign on BackerKit to bring reprints of classic material to fans, San Diego Comic-Con brings a new update of The Terminator franchise fully returning with new comic book stories this October — with heavy hitter creator Declan Shalvey at the helm, recruiting artist Luke Sparrow for each mission!

The war between the humans and the machines is coming home! Just in time for the franchise’s 40th anniversary, following the original film’s October 1984 release.

"The approach of this series is new situations, new dilemmas in each issue. Mostly done-in-one stories, but as the series progresses there may be some recognizable faces…," said writer Declan Shalvey. "We’re going for a more stripped-down, pulpy approach to the book. As innovative and groundbreaking as the first film was, it was also grounded in its environment, being noirish and moody as hell. An unstoppable force is coming to kill you — that’s the element of the franchise I want to lean into."

The plans to kill Sarah Connor and her son John have failed, but that isn't going to stop the genocidal Skynet. If at first it doesn't succeed, it's going to expand the theater of operations. There are still a few more avenues into the past to try that will allow it to eliminate the human resistance before it even starts. Skynet and its Terminators are determined to stamp out these pivotal figures in history before they lead to their processors being smashed into silicon shrapnel.

This new front in the time war comes with Terminators dispatched all across the globe and throughout time to target not only current resistance fighters but also their ancestors, as well as any unlucky souls caught in the crossfire. Though at first it may not seem that this wide range of secondary objectives are as straightforward or critical as the original missions of the T-800 and T-1000, the sheer scope of this new warfare defies that. Time is literally on Skynet's side — when all of history becomes a war zone, suddenly nowhere — and no-when is safe!

Acclaimed creator Declan Shalvey is back on board in the present for what is sure to be another hit project with Dynamite, following the massive, industry-shaking success of ThunderCats. This time the Alien, Old Dog, and Time Before Time writer is joined by rising star artist Luke Sparrow (Star Trek, Old Dog: Operations). The duo are locked in and ready to unleash all-new tales of Skynet and its nigh-unstoppable mechanical assassins.

They're paired with algorithmically perfect covers from Shalvey himself, as well as Edwin Galmon, Joshua "Sway" Swaby, and David Cousens. The first issue of the upcoming series also features a stunning "Icon Cover" for collectors to grab, presenting the iconic artwork by Alex Ross early in his career for the "Burning Earth" storyline.

THE TERMINATOR #1 will be solicited in Diamond Comic Distributors’ August 2024 Previews catalog, the premier source of merchandise for the comic book specialty market, and slated for release in October 2024. Comic book fans are encouraged to preorder copies of the book with their local comic book retailers. It will also be available for individual customer purchase through digital platforms courtesy of Comixology, Kindle, iBooks, Google Play, Dynamite Digital, ComicsPlus, and more!

Following next month’s theatrical release of Alien: Romulus, the latest installment in the groundbreaking Alien film franchise, Marvel Comics will proudly present an ALIEN: ROMULUS comic one-shot in October that tackles one of the film’s lingering mysteries. On sale in October, ALIEN: ROMULUS #1 will be written by horror master Zac Thompson (Absolute Carnage: Avengers, I Breathed a Body) and drawn by rising star Daniel Picciotto (Danny Ketch: Ghost Rider, X-Force). The upcoming film will take the “Alien” storytelling back to its roots with a thrilling saga of young space colonizers coming face to face with the most terrifying life form in the universe. Marvel’s one-shot will take place prior to the events of the film, providing an illuminating backstory behind the film’s main threat. The result is a thrilling, terrifying story that slowly gestates into something wholly unpredictable." Preorder ALIEN: ROMULUS #1 at your local comic shop today. Tubi has released a trailer for Wynonna Earp: Vengeance, the direct-to-streaming movie coming soon to their platform. The movie, which reunites the cast of Syfy's beloved Wynonna Earp adaptation, will hold a panel at San Diego Comic Con on Saturday. This brief teaser is presumably just a shortened version of a full trailer that will debut at the convention, although no such announcement has been formally made. The series, which ran for four seasons, was never a ratings smash but developed a passionate fan base of "Earpers" and got some of the best reviews of any Syfy show in recent memory. Melanie Scrofano (Wynonna Earp), Tim Rozon (Doc Holliday), Dom Provost-Chalkley (Waverly Earp), and Katherine Barrell (Nicole Haught) all reprise their roles. Another Wynonna Earp veteran, Paolo Barzman, is directing the special. (via ComicBook.com)

ARTIST STEPHEN PLATT RETURNS WITH ALL-NEW 'MOON KNIGHT: FIST OF KHONSHU' #1 VARIANT COVER

In the early ‘90s, rising star artist Stephen Platt burst on the scene in Marc Spector: Moon Knight #55. The acclaimed artist turned this fan favorite book into one of the hottest comics on stands and his brief but impactful work on the title is fondly remembered by Moon Knight fans. This October, Platt is back just in time for Marc Spector’s grand return in MOON KNIGHT: FIST OF KHONSHU #1. Gracing the issue with a stunning variant cover, Platt’s new piece blends classic and modern as he depicts Moon Knight’s all-new costume in his unmistakable and iconic style! MOON KNIGHT: FIST OF KHONSHU is the latest evolution of Jed MacKay and Alessandro Cappuccio’s run of Moon Knight. Like Platt, MacKay and Cappuccio’s bold reinvention of the character and the Moon Knight mythology have made it one of Marvel’s consistently best-selling titles. The new launch picks up after Marc Spector’s surprise return in Blood Hunt. He’s died and come back to life on more than one occasion. To the ignorant, his fate beyond death’s grasp may seem idyllic, but being chosen as a Fist of Khonshu comes with a heavy cost! And, like bones in a street fight, Marc Spector, and the multitudes he contains, may be about to break! Check out Platt’s cover and preorder MOON KNIGHT: FIST OF KHONSHU #1 at your local comic shop today!
