THE BOYS STAR ADDRESSES 'NEPO BABY' LABEL

With the fourth season underway on Prime Video, Jack Quaid is out doing the promotional tour and while visiting the Last Laugh podcast was asked about his status as a “Nepo Baby.” This is a buzz term going around right now because a lot of young actors, who are the children of established actors getting opportunities that unconnected actors have to fight harder for. Quaid didn’t shy away from the term. “No matter what I do, people are going to call attention to it. People have called me a ‘nepo baby.’ I’m inclined to agree,” said the 32-year-old whose parents are Dennis Quaid and Meg Ryan. “I am an immensely privileged person, was able to get representation pretty early on, and that’s more than half the battle.” Ryan was asked about the term in a Glamour magazine article and defended her son, saying, “That nepo stuff is so dismissive of his work ethic, his gifts, and how sensitive he is to the idea of his privilege.” Jack went on to say, “I don’t think it undermines my talent. I know that I work hard, and I know I’ve heard ‘no’ way more than I’ve heard ‘yes.’ But I also know that this industry is insanely hard to break into, and I had an easier time doing that than most. Both things can be true.” Jack Quaid
BOYCOTT TALKS START OVER CAPTAIN AMERICA: BRAVE NEW WORLD

Source: The Hollywood Reporter | Comments (0) | E-mail Article | Add a Comment
A controversy is building up around the upcoming Captain America: Brave New World and it’s not about any of the main characters. The film includes Shira Haas a Ruth Bat-Seraph, a high-ranking member of the U.S. government. The character comes from the comics where she is a mutant and Mossad agent named Sabra. She was created by Bill Mantlo and Sal Buscema in Incredible Hulk #250. Her powers may be the really interesting thing here, besides superhuman strength, speed, agility, endurance, etc, and she also has the ability to transfer some of her own energy into other people, in essence healing them and granting low-level super-powers. Maybe she will enhance Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) to put him on pair with a super-soldier. As you might guess, with the current conflict in Israel, the controversy comes from her comic background with some people calling for a boycott of the film because of it. Marvel has tried to address the issue by changing her backstory, with her now becoming a former Black Widow agent, which ties her into the current MCU a lot better and will likely eliminate her super-powers. And while this change has been in the character was first added back in 2022 and has nothing to do with recent events. Marvel has been updating a lot of characters over the years to fit better into the modern world. It is also believed that the name Sabra, which is a bit controversial on its own because of a massacre at a refugee camp in Lebanon of the same name in 1982, so the name will not be used in the film. At this point, if she doesn’t have the codename, the powers or the backstory… what is Marvel gaining by used the name Ruth Bat-Seraph in the first place? Seems like an unnecessary mine-field to walk through.Shira Haas
HOW THAT BOOSTER GOLD RUMOR GOT STARTED
07/13/24 @ 9:38 am EST
Source: Twitter | Comments (0) | E-mail Article | Add a Comment
In an example of how rumors are often started by a bit of misinformation, I give you the case of Kumail Nanjiani who showed his interest in the upcoming James Gunn lead Superman movie by retweeting Gunn’s tweet and putting the single word, “in”. This has set off an on-line firestorm with people assuming the comedian/actor who buffed up to play Kingo in the Eternals for Marvel was now joining the DC Universe and would appear IN Superman. The next thing is someone put a story together as an official rumor, but that wouldn’t be good enough that Nanjiani was in the movie, he needed to be playing an important character, one with a similar personality to what we’ve seen the actor do… which led them to claim that Nanjiani would be playing Booster Gold. Now the story is being carried by multiple sites, all of which are saying that since Gunn hasn’t debunked it, this must be true. Gunn, who is currently working on a movie and may be too busy to respond to speculation, not denying something doesn’t mean it’s true. Gunn has also said that there will be no casting until a script is done and there has been no talk about any project with Booster Gold in it. Oh, and Nanjiani has gone back onto social media to clarify that he meant he was in for seeing the movie, not that he was cast in the movie. I’m sure that won’t do much to stop the rumor though.Kumail Nanjiani

NIELSEN STREAMING TOP 10: ‘THE BOYS’ HITS THIRD PLACE AFTER SEASON 4 DEBUT
07/12/24 @ 3:00 pm EST
Source: Variety | Categories: The-Boys | Comments (0) | E-mail Article | Add a Comment

“The Boys” was the third-most-streamed title in the U.S. in the week of June 10-16, per Nielsen. While that total accounts for all seasons of the Amazon Prime Video superhero series, much viewership was driven by the release of Season 4. With four days of availability for those first three episodes, the series was watched for 1.2 billion minutes during this viewing window. The top title of the week, unsurprisingly, was “Bridgerton.” The Shonda Rhimes’ produced Regency-era drama has been making viewership headlines for nearly two months now, since the release of Season 3’s first four episodes on May 16. The season’s final four episodes dropped on June 13, driving the series to hit a massive 3.5 billion minutes watched from June 10 to 16. (via Variety)

Anthony Mackie takes the coveted shield in the first trailer for Marvel Studios‘ Captain America: Brave New World, the fourth installment of the Caps' franchise and the first since Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers bid adieu to the superhero life in 2019’s Avengers: Endgame. In the new teaser, Mackie’s Sam Wilson, previously known as The Falcon, is recruited by newly elected U.S. President Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross (Harrison Ford in his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut) to fill the Rogers' vacancy and become a U.S. agent to boot. The Captain wastes little time before stopping a would-be assassin at the White House. And then things get busy. The lightning-fast clip ends with a quick look at the new character Red Hulk, who might or might not actually be Thunderbolt Ross.
