VAULT COMICS ANNOUNCES HORROR-COMEDY SERIES 'GOOBERS'
06/18/24 @ 3:44 pm EST
Source: Vault Comics | Categories: MIsc | Comments (0) | E-mail Article | Add a Comment

Vault Comics is thrilled to announce GOOBERS, a darkly comedic horror series written by star scribe Cody Ziglar (Spider-Punk, Miles Morales: Spider-Man, Futurama), drawn by Ryan Lee (Rick and Morty), colored by Kurt Michael Russell (Money Shot, The Nasty), lettered by Andworld, and designed by Adam Cahoon. A body-snatching splatter-fest of horror and humor, GOOBERS is equal parts Night of the Creeps, Shaun of the Dead, and Attack the Block. The story centers around Clayton Lowe as he heads back to his small Southern hometown. His new friends from grad school are about to meet his old friends from high school and discover that something may have finally changed in the town where nothing ever changes: Pine Cove is ground zero for an infestation of body-snatching alien-bugs. And now, it’s time to bury the past. “I grew up watching 80s and 90s b-horror films,” said Ziglar. “I also grew up in a small country town. Goobers is a love letter to both! I love being able to smash some of my favorite genres, movies, and comics together with my love of North Carolina. I also loved being able to voice the frustration of growing up in a small town and being self-conscious about what they thought of me and how I lived my life. Back in 2021 during peak covid, I moved back home for 6 months to spend time with my parents and that’s where Goobers was truly born. “I kept wondering what made certain towns feel the same, even if there are small changes, and landed on the obvious answer: alien worms must invade and body-snatch folks," continued Ziglar. "Goobers, in many ways, in just my comedic look on processing those emotions while also paying homage to some of my favorite films like Shaun of the Dead, Night of the Creeps, Get Out, and Revenge of the living Dead." "Upon my first pass of Cody’s script for Goobers, I recognized our kindred creative sensibilities and knew this would be riot to work on," added Lee. "This script was hilarious and heartfelt, but hardcore when it gets in the guts of the terror and action. Goobers squirmed its spiked larval body into that monster infatuation I've treasured since childhood. I was blessed to grow up in a golden era of mischievous little freaks: Gremlins, Ghoulies. Critters, Munchies. Trolls, Madballs. Garbage Pail Kids. Comics. Cracked Monster Parties. The monster books of Mercer Mayer. These were my muses. There's a magic in those freaks that buried their claws into my brain and jolted my imagination to draw and create my own beastlies. Enter "Goobers": the continuation of an obsession." GOOBERS issue #1 will hit store shelves in September, 2024. The series will feature an incredible lineup of variant covers from a fan-favorite artists like Spider-Punk’s Justin Mason, and The Nasty’s Adam Cahoon.

WRITER DANIEL WARREN JOHNSON TEAMS WITH ARTIST RILEY ROSSMO FOR 'THE MOON IS FOLLOWING US'
06/18/24 @ 11:28 am EST
Source: Image Comics | Categories: Image | Comments (0) | E-mail Article | Add a Comment

Hot off the 2023 Eisner Award winning Do a Powerbomb and skyrocketing to fame with his fresh spin on the Eisner Award nominated Transformers comic book series, Daniel Warren Johnson teams with dynamo artist Riley Rossmo for an all-new, heart-wrenching tale in the upcoming, The Moon is Following Us. This ten issue miniseries sees Rossmo's return to Image Comics and is set to launch in September. Sam and Duncan LaMarr love their six-year-old daughter, Penny, more than anything in the whole world. But half a year ago, she was taken by the Cascade, an evil force they barely understand. Now, Sam and Duncan must fight side by side with the magical beings Penny cherished to try and get her back…before she’s gone forever. “Not only is Riley an amazing person, but his linemaking and design sensibilities are some of the best I’ve ever seen. He is the perfect co-creator and artist to tackle such a huge and expansive world that we’ve made in The Moon is Following Us," said Johnson. "Riley takes my scripts farther than I could have ever imagined, building on top of something I wrote and expanding it into something more wonderful, creepy, and wild than I could have ever done on my own. This book is very personal; it comes from a deep place inside both of us and we are so happy to share it with our fantastic readers." Rossmo added: “The Moon is Following Us is as collaborative as you can get creating comics. It’s been amazing working with another artist on a book. Being able to send character designs and layouts back and forth has led to some great pages and covers. If I’m stuck on a composition, I can call DWJ and he’ll send me a 30-second doodle to give me an idea to get past it. Plus, Mike’s colors and Shawn’s lettering is as good as it gets. I’m very grateful to be working with such wonderful people on such a fun book.”

The Moon is Following Us #1 will be available at comic book shops on Wednesday, September 18:

Cover A by Rossmo & Spicer - Lunar Code 0724IM274

Cover B by Johnson & Spicer (wraparound) - Lunar Code 0724IM275

‘STREET FIGHTER’ MOVIE LOSES ‘TALK TO ME’ FILMMAKERS DANNY & MICHAEL PHILIPPOU

Source: Hollywood Reporter | Categories: Street Fighter | Comments (0) | E-mail Article | Add a Comment

The streets are empty for Danny and Michael Philippou. The Australian twin filmmaking duo behind last year’s surprise horror hit Talk to Me are no longer working on Street Fighter, Legendary’s feature adaptation of the classic video game from Capcom. Scheduling is partly to blame, The Hollywood Reporter is reporting. Legendary and Capcom were hoping to begin sooner than later. The Philippous, however, shifted focus to Bring Her Back, which reteams them with their Talk to Me studio A24. That project, which will star Sally Hawkins and Billy Barratt, begins shooting later this month in Australia. Street Fighter is now looking for a new filmmaker. Street Fighter is one of the more enduring fighting video game franchises of all time.
JEFF LEMIRE LAUNCHES NEW ONGOING SERIES 'MINOR ARCANA' AT BOOM! STUDIOS
06/17/24 @ 8:40 pm EST
Source: BOOM! Studios | Categories: MIsc | Comments (0) | E-mail Article | Add a Comment

One of the most renowned creators in comics, New York Times bestselling and Eisner Award-winning writer and artist Jeff Lemire, along with the incomparable letterer Steve Wands, brings his first ever creator-owned, ongoing series to BOOM! Studios with an oversized opening chapter of the supernatural in MINOR ARCANA, coming to comic shops September 2024. “Minor Arcana has become my dream project. Combining small town life with magical realism and supernatural mystery, it lets me stretch my wings and play with all the different kinds of characters and stories I’ve loved working on since Essex County and Sweet Tooth. Writing and drawing the book myself has allowed me to make it an immersive read that I hope will hook readers as much as it’s hooked me. “I have big plans for the series, having already plotted it through the first 22 issues. If Black Hammer was my love letter to the superhero comics I grew up reading, then Minor Arcana is my love letter to the classic Vertigo comics of my youth, but all filtered through my own style. I really want to get back to doing a true ongoing series that focuses on the importance of single issues again. “I love writing and drawing this book and living in the world, and I can’t wait to start sharing it,” said series creator Jeff Lemire. Theresa, the prodigal daughter of a small-town “psychic” tarot reading fraud, begrudgingly returns home to care for her ailing mother after having left home for good–or so she thought. Arriving back in her childhood hometown seemingly untouched by time, Theresa learns that there may be more to the magic than she originally believed. And with that, she finds herself caught up in a town that desperately needs her help… "Minor Arcana is one of those beautiful creative experiences where everything just clicked right away," said BOOM! Studios Editor-in-Chief, Matt Gagnon. "It really feels like Jeff has crafted a story that explores his deepest interests to the fullest. There's a magical undercurrent running through this series that extends all the way to the creative process. This is such a special story and we cannot wait to share it with the world this September!" MINOR ARCANA #1 launches the first of the four major story arcs of the new ongoing series from Jeff Lemire and BOOM! Studios. Mirroring the suits of a tarot deck, the story arcs will be collected into The Book of Wands, The Book of Swords, The Book of Cups, and The Book of Pentacles respectively. MINOR ARCANA #1 features main cover art by series creator Jeff Lemire, and variant covers by highly acclaimed illustrators Tula Lotay (Barnstormers), Dustin Nguyen (Descender), David Mack (American Gods), and more. Additionally, each issue of MINOR ARCANA will feature a special tarot card variant cover illustrated by Jeff Lemire, starting with issue #1’s being The Fool! “Watching Jeff build the world of Minor Arcana first-hand has been like sitting front row at a master magician’s death-defying new performance,” said Eric Harburn, editor. “I’m thrilled for Lemire fans and new readers alike to experience it this September.” MINOR ARCANA is the newest release from BOOM! Studios’ eponymous imprint, home to critically acclaimed original series, including BRZRKR by Keanu Reeves, Matt Kindt, and Ron Garney; Something is Killing the Children by James Tynion IV and Werther Dell’Edera; Grim by Stephanie Phillips and Flaviano; Stuff of Nightmares by R.L. Stine and A.L. Kaplan; Damn Them All by Simon Spurrier and Charlie Adlard; Once Upon a Time at the End of the World by Jason Aaron, Alexandre Tefenkgi, Leila del Duca, and Nick Dragotta; A Vicious Circle by Mattson Tomlin and Lee Bermejo; Ghostlore by Cullen Bunn and Leomacs; Sirens of the City by Joanne Starer and Khary Randolph; Coda by Simon Spurrier and Matías Bergara; Rare Flavours by Ram V and Filipe Andrade; Underheist by David and Maria Lapham; and Animal Pound by Tom King and Peter Gross. The imprint also publishes popular licensed properties, including Dune: House Corrino from Brian Herbert, Kevin J. Anderson, and Simone Ragazzoni; Mighty Morphin Power Rangers by Melissa Flores and Simona Di Gianfelice; and The Expanse: Dragon Tooth by Andy Diggle, Rubine, and Francesco Pisa. MINOR ARCANA #1 will be available in comic shops September 4, 2024. It is available for pre-order at your local comic shop. Digital copies can be purchased from content providers, including Kindle, iBooks, and Google Play.

WRITER/ARTIST MARIA LLOVET BITES INTO NEW VAMPIRE MINISERIES 'VIOLENT FLOWERS'
06/17/24 @ 2:13 pm EST
Source: Image Comics | Categories: Image | Comments (0) | E-mail Article | Add a Comment

Maria Llovet, the writer and artist behind bestselling erotic thriller Crave, returns to Image Comics to sink her teeth into another thrilling dark fantasy-horror series, a vengeful vampire saga wrapped up in the worlds of both modern fashion and classic monster myth. The four-issue miniseries kicks off in September to haunt readers during Halloween season. In Violent Flowers, an ancient clan of vampires reunites after centuries. The Sentinel, a vampire who watches over all supernatural creatures, has been murdered. His erratic sister, Carnelia, will stop at nothing to get revenge, even when she’s charged with a mortal to take care of. In a world where the cult of youth and beauty rules, Carnelia has remained old and wrinkled for ages, abstaining from her vampire urges. But her addiction to blood may prove her resolution is not as firm as it seems. “I’m really excited about this project! I’ve conceived the world of Violent Flowers as a series of self-contained stories that talk about the same group of characters through the ages. So this miniseries is only the beginning!” said Llovet. Continued Llovet: “One of the themes I’m really eager to discuss in this series as a whole, is the idolization of youth and beauty in our society, and why the main character, who can stay young and beautiful forever, usually chooses to stay old and wrinkled. Also ADDICTION to blood: in vampire fiction, we’re used to seeing how characters struggle with their urges, but what if they were actually addicted to blood? I find the idea fascinating!"

Violent Flowers #1 will be available at comic book shops on Wednesday, September 25:

CHARLIE COX SIGNS A COPY OF DAREDEVIL #1 FOR A FAN
06/16/24 @ 1:30 pm EST
Source: Twitter | Comments (0) | E-mail Article | Add a Comment
A young lady on the social media platform formerly know as Twitter, has cause a bit of a ruckus this weekend. Her account name is Mal and she describes herself as a 20-year-old Matt Murdock enthusiast as well as a fan of Marvel, Star Wars, Adam Driver, Charlies Cox and 5sos… I’m not familiar with that last one. Mal went to what appears to be Fan Expo Boston this weekend and stood inline for an autograph and for a photo with Charlie Cox. On her twitter pages she posted a video and photo as she asked Charlie to sign her copy of Daredevil #1 from 1964 by Stan Lee and Bill Everett. The actor did as he was requested and posed with Mal and her comic, a photo separate from the photo session she was set up for later that day. Mal appears to be very happy with everything that happened, but when posting all of this on social media, people started calling her out for “defacing comic history.” Daredevil #1 is valued anywhere between $1,700 to $21,000 depending on the condition and these posters felt Charlie’s signature would bring the value of the comic down. But there are two values to a comic, the resale value which only matters if you’re trying to sell it, and the enjoyment value you get from owning the comic. And having one of her favorite actors who brings the character to life for Marvel Studios adds to the enjoyment value for Mal, and that is the only thing that matters. Nice job Mal, and thank you for sharing your experience with everyone.Charlie Cox and Mal
