ALAN RITCHSON MAY RETURN TO BLUE MOUNTAIN STATE
02/24/24 @ 1:40 pm EST
Source: Deadline | Comments (0) | E-mail Article | Add a Comment

Alan Ritchson is quickly becoming huge… and I’m not talking about his imposing physique. The actor that many of us first noticed on Smallville as Aquaman has been showing up everywhere after the success of the Prime series Reacher. He was in the latest Fast and Furious film, he’s in the upcoming Guy Ritchie film The Bureau of Ungentlemanly Warfare with Henry Cavill, he just got announced to star with Kevin James in a new comedy, his Titans series just wrapped where he played Hawk and season three of Reacher is already filming. Now it seems that another previous film wants to pop back up and Ritchson has decided to return with it. The college football series Blue Mountain State is in talks for a sequel and Ritchson will be reprising his role as Kevin “Thad” Castle. The comedy originally aired for three seasons on Spike and then got more popular moving to Netflix where its audience has grown. The shows creators Chris Romano and Eric Falconer are said to be back as well, but the project is in its early stages and still has to find a home, but Amazon does seem like a good fit.  Blue Mountain State

IS MARK MILLAR WAITING ON THE PUBLIC DOMAIN?
04/14/24 @ 12:16 pm EST
Source: Bleeding Cool | Comments (0) | E-mail Article | Add a Comment
Rich Johnston over at Bleeding Cool has an article posted talking about Mark Millar and how he’s been talking about doing more Superman comics over the last few years. Millar has been vocal about his desire to do the comics and work with a top-notch artist, but it seems that working on a deal with DC may not be going all that well as Millar wants the company to share profits 50/50 after 60,000 copies are sold rather than the normal 2% royalty. Now Millar is talking about waiting until 2033 when the character ends up in the public domain and anyone can make books about him… or at least the version that first appeared in the early days of Action Comics. This would mean no Jimmy Olsen, no Perry White, no Kryptonite and definitely no flying. Rich also seems to think that Millar would be competing against other companies also putting out their versions of Superman like Marvel, Image, Todd McFarlane, etc. And of course, none of them could make a comic called Superman as DC Comics will still own the trademark, so they would have to call it something like “Into Action” or “Metropolis” and then just call him Superman inside the book. But would people want to read a Superman story that’s not part of the DC Universe? Is the draw of the character exactly what Joe Shuster and Jerry Siegel put on the page in 1938 or is it all that plus the 85+ years of continuity that makes people want to read his adventures? This will be important to figure out as once Superman goes into public domain, Batman won’t be far behind.Action Comics
X-MEN '97 CREATOR SPEAKS OUT ABOUT 5TH EPISODE
04/14/24 @ 11:47 am EST
Source: Twitter | Comments (0) | E-mail Article | Add a Comment
Even though he is no longer working on the series after being let go by Marvel Studios, X-Men ’97 creator Beau DeMayo broke his silence to speak about the shocking fifth episode of the series. DeMayo wanted to give context to the ending and how everything was specifically done to set this up. He posted on Twitter: “Lotta questions and so I’ll momentarily break silence to answer. Episode 5 was the centerpiece of my pitch to Marvel in November 2020. The idea being to have the X-Men mirror the journey that any of us who grew up on the original show have experienced since being kids in the 90s. The world was a seemingly safer place for us, where a character like Storm would comment on how skin-based racism was ‘quaint’ in One Man’s Worth [the season 4 premiere of the OG series]. For the most part, to our young minds, the world was a simple place of right and wrong, where questions about identity and social justice had relatively clear-cut answers.” DeMayo then shifts to how everything changed after September 11th, 2001. “Things weren’t so safe anymore. Grassroots populist movements began to rise around the world as a whole nation struggled to deal with collective trauma and fracture at the seams of every diverse demographic. The effects we still feel today, and have only been exacerbated by more collective traumas like COVID or several recessions.” His plan for the series was to reflect on similar attacks in American history. “Yes, it looked like Gambit’s story was going a specific direction. The crop top was chosen to make you love him. Him pulling off his shirt was intentional. There’s a reason he told Rogue any fool would suffer her hand in a dance, even if it ended up not being him suffering. But if events like 9/11, Tulsa, Charlottesville, or Pulse Nightclub teach us anything, it’s that too many stories are often cut far too short. I partied at Pulse. It was my club. I have so many great memories of its awesome white lounge. It was, like Genosha, a safe space for me and everyone like me to dance and laugh and be free. I thought about this a lot when crafting this season and this episode, and how the gay community in Orlando rose to heal from that event. Like many of us who grew up on the OG cartoon, the X-Men have now been hit hard by the realities of an adult and unsafe world. Life’s happened to them. And they, like we did, will have to decide which parts of themselves they will cling to and which parts they’ll let go of in order to do what they’ve been telling humanity to do: face an uncertain future they never saw coming. As Trask told Cyclops in the premiere: ‘you have no idea what it’s like to be left behind by the future.’ Now the X-Men do, and like each of us, they’ll have to weigh whether this is a time for social justice — or as Magneto preached at his trial — is it a time for social healing.”Gambit
PEACEMAKER SEASON 2 BEGINS PRODUCTION

While it seems like it’s been forever since the season finale of Peacemaker aired, February 17th, 2022 to be exact… most indications were that it would still be a while before season two would get started. The delays were attributed to writer/director James Gunn taking on a side project called Superman and becoming the co-head of DC Studios. And while star John Cena had been hinting that it may be time for him to return to the role, no one was expecting what was posted yesterday. On Threads Gunn posted a selfie of himself as seen through the reflection of Peacemaker’s helmet. The post simply read, “Day 1 S2.” This means Gunn has both the film and television projects active at the same time, but he will not be as hands on with the second season as the first, admitting previously that he would not be able to direct all of the episodes as he had done in season one. One of the things that will definitely change will be the opening credits. While they were well loved, a few of the characters are no longer with us, so I would expect a new opening and with Gunn’s love of obscure rock songs, I would expect new music as well.Peacemaker
TOM HIDDLESTON TALKS THE UNSURE FUTURE OF LOKI

Source: Deadline | Comments (0) | E-mail Article | Add a Comment
Tom Hiddleston appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live to promote his returning series The Night Manager and of course the host asked him the important question, was he done playing Loki? His answer was somewhat vague, but then again, it’s rare to get a direct answer when the question involves Marvel Studios. But Hiddleston said: “I don’t know. I really don’t know. We’ve reached some sort of narrative conclusion with season 2, which feels satisfying to me.” The actor doesn’t see Loki as a villain, saying “Once upon a time he was making some misguided choices,” but has since made, “slightly more generous, loving and heroic choices.” And when Jimmy Kimmel points out that Hiddleston has been playing the role for 14 years, the actor says that blows his mind and the role completely changed the course of his life.  Loki
MARVEL SHOWS 9 MINUTES OF DEADPOOL & WOLVERINE
04/13/24 @ 12:07 pm EST
Source: Deadline | Comments (0) | E-mail Article | Add a Comment
Also joining Kevin Feige on stage at CinemaCon this week was Deadpool & Wolverine director Shawn Levy. And while they wanted to stress the R rating of the film and did so with Feige using the “F” word three times before bringing Levy out, the biggest surprise was they showed nine minutes of footage from the film. We get to see Wade Wilson (Ryan Reynolds) trying to adjust to a normal life as he’s hung up the red and black suit and is focusing on being a car salesman. He talks about “aiming for the middle because then you never miss”. We then see him at home for a surprise birthday party that includes Blind Al (Leslie Uggams), Peter (Rob Delaney) and many other friends from previous films. We also see Vanessa (Morena Baccarin) and learn that she and Wade are no longer dating. But the party gets broken up with the TVA arrive and he is taken away to met Mr. Paradox (Matthew MacFadyen) who explains to Wade that he’s needed to save the sacred timeline. Most of this is an extended version from the trailer and we see some teaser cameos like possibly Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and we learn that he gets an upgraded suit plus adamantium katanas. I’m sure that won’t be important later. We do get other footage, this of Deadpool and Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) in a car where Deadpool accuses Wolverine of being a fan of the Los Angeles Rams because of the blue and yellow costume theme. Reynolds previously said that he meant this film to be like an old “Road Movie” and that is the vibe the scene gives off. The film is slated to be released in theaters on July 26th.Deadpool Wolverine
ANTHONY MACKIE APPEARS AT CINEMACON FOR CAPTAIN AMERICA 4

During Disney’s presentation at CinemaCon this week, the head of Marvel Studios, Kevin Feige, made an appearance on the stage to talk about the upcoming slate of films. In that we saw the logos for The Fantastic Four, which is the same as we saw on the posters released recently, and we learned that it would begin filming soon. We saw a newer version of the Thunderbolts logo now with an asterisk at the end, something Feige said will be discussed once the film comes out. Perhaps the team will not be the Thunderbolts after all? And then Feige was joined by Anthony Mackie who will be reprising his role as Sam Wilson in the upcoming Captain America: Brave New World. Along with the visit there was short footage showing Sam meeting with President Ross now played by Harrison Ford. There is a moment where they acknowledge the change in actors, Ford taking over from the late William Hurt, and the president telling Sam he wants him to reform the Avengers. We also see that Danny Ramirez is back as Joaquin Torres and Carl Lumbly returns as Isaiah Bradley, both characters who were introduced into the MCU in The Flacon and the Winter Solder, the same place where Sam took over the mantle of Captain America. Captain America: Brave New World comes out on February 14, 2025.Anthony Mackie

The fall of Krakoa will go down as one of the darkest chapters in mutant history, but Cyclops refuses to allow the X-Men to be victims. The first X-Man, mutantkind’s ultimate leader, and arguably the most brilliant strategic mind in the entire Marvel Universe, Scott Summers steps up to guide his species towards a better future in Jed MacKay and Ryan Stegman’s X-MEN. Announced last month, X-MEN will be the first of three flagship X-titles set in the upcoming From the Ashes era. No longer living under the protection of Krakoa, it’s a dangerous time for mutants everywhere, and dangerous times call for radical action! Cyclops gathers a group of his most trusted and reliable mutant soldiers along with the brightest of the next generation to tackle the most prevalent threats to mutantkind, including an existential new enemy that rises out of the remains of ORCHIS. Prepare for a reckoning as this team handles explosive mutant-specific issues without restraint. Humanity can hate them all they want, as long as they fear them! FROM THE ASHES! Krakoa is gone, ORCHIS has fallen...but the X-Men remain, always. Cyclops leads, because that is what he does. Beast builds, because that is what he does. And from their new home in Alaska, the X-Men raise a flag of defiance. Mutant business is their business. Join Cyclops, Beast, Magneto, Psylocke, Magik, Kid Omega, Temper, and Juggernaut as new forces in the world move into position, battling for the destiny and philosophy of the mutant species. "Taking on the X-Men is always a daunting prospect, but I'm extremely psyched to take this team of mutants back into the world with Ryan!" MacKay said. "When I first got into comics, drawing X-Men was THE job you wanted as an artist,” Stegman added. “To have the opportunity now is mind-blowing." With three flagship titles and a host of additional satellite series, the upcoming From the Ashes era will present fans with a wide range of different approaches to the X-Men’s mission statement. Gail Simone and David Marquez’ Uncanny X-Men delivers globetrotting super hero adventures as the X-Men show the world all the good mutantkind can accomplish. Eve L. Ewing and Carmen Carnero’s Exceptional X-Men focuses on the trials and training young mutants need to undergo to survive in a world against them. Meanwhile, MacKay and Stegman’s X-MEN sees mutantkind flex their strength and keep hope alive by any means necessary! TMNT: 40TH ANNIVERSARY COMICS CELEBRATION BRINGS BACK FAN-FAVORITE CREATORS
04/12/24 @ 1:51 pm EST
Source: IDW Publishing | Categories: TMNT | Comments (0) | E-mail Article | Add a Comment

After the TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES (TMNT) made their debut in a black-and-white comic by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird in 1984, the Heroes in a Half Shell went on to become a global phenomenon. Over the next forty years, countless talented people across the entertainment industry worked passionately with the beloved franchise, allowing adventures with new iterations of TMNT to consistently reach new audiences. Now, brilliant TMNT creatives from different eras are joining forces to present something truly special to fans: the TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES: 40TH ANNIVERSARY COMICS CELEBRATION.

With several new stories and pinup art pieces inspired by different eras of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, this technodrome-sized issue with more than 70 pages will feature fan-favorite creatives returning to their respective eras for all-new tales. This special one-shot issue will feature new stories and pinup art from Jim Lawson, Ciro Nieli, Tristan Jones, Paul Harmon, Steve Lavigne, Andy Suriano, Ronda Pattison, Pablo Tunica, Freddie E. Williams II, Sophie Campbell, Tom Waltz, Lloyd Goldfine, Khary Randolph, Emilio Lopez, Dan Duncan, Erik Burnham, Sarah Myer, Luis Antonio Delgado, Chris Allan and more. Plus, the one and only Kevin Eastman will be contributing a story, too!

No TMNT anniversary celebration would be complete without the two people who created it all. This oversized issue will feature a primary cover with never-before-seen pencils from Laird that have been inked by Eastman, just for this special issue! Additional eye-catching covers will be provided by acclaimed artists Sophie Campbell, Isaac and Esau Escorza, Simon Bisley, Michael Dialynas, Vincenzo Federici, Khary Randolph, Emilio Lopez, Michael Cho, Dave Wachter, and an IDW Exclusive cover by Ben Bishop.

"Having a childhood dream – in my case to write and draw comics for a living, is one thing – to then actually spending every minute of the next 40 years doing it, is a whole other matter altogether – humbling is the first word that comes to mind,” stated Eastman. “My co-creation of TMNT with the amazing Peter Laird has been the driving force of living that dream, and working with a number of really talented writers and artists along the way has made, and still makes, the journey the greatest shared experience I never imaged and could not be more grateful for.” The iconic comic book creator added, “From the raw beginnings of a 40-page self-published black and white ‘origin of’ comic, to the 200-page full color ‘final tale’ of the original TMNT's graphic novel, THE LAST RONIN, I want to thank the people directly responsible – our fans. Without them, I would not have had the chance to live that childhood dream."

What's amazing about the TMNT comics is just looking back over the breadth of the stories, how many creators have tapped in, and all the energy and excitement that has gone into the last four decades,” added Editor-in-Chief Jamie S. Rich. “It proves how great the original concept by Eastman & Laird was that it endures across media, across time, and the characters consistently find a new audience. This book tries to tap into as much of that as possible and bring back fan favorite creators to celebrate their contributions to the lore."

TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES: 40TH ANNIVERSARY COMICS CELEBRATION will leap into comic shops on July 10, 2024 for $11.99. Fans have until June 3 to pre-order at their local comic shop.
