Jackie Chan and Ralph Macchio, both of whom starred in Karate Kid movies decades apart, are set to reprise their popular characters in Sony Pictures’ latest installment of the iconic coming-of-age martial arts franchise.Jonathan Entwistle, best known for his well-regarded and award-winning teen television dramas I’m Not Okay with This and The End of the F***ing World, is directing the untitled feature that the studio is positioning as the fusing and continuing the mythology of the original franchise. A global search for a Chinese actor to play the erstwhile title character launched today, with Chan and Macchio kicking things off with an introductory video (below). Isabella Bucceri (Finally Me, Everything in Between), Nukâka Coster-Waldau (Thin Ice, Anori), Salóme Gunnarsdóttir (The Lazarus Project, Justice League), Björn Landberg (Galileo Mystery, Unter uns), and Synnøve Macody Lund (Ragnarok, Saw X) have joined the cast of Prime Video‘s fantasy epic series The Wheel of Time, starring Rosamund Pike, Madeleine Madden and Josha Stradowski.

The Wheel of Time, set in a sprawling, epic world where magic exists but only women can use it, is co-produced by Amazon Studios and Sony Pictures Television and comes from Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D and Chuck writer Rafe Judkins, who is showrunner and exec producer.

Matt Murdock, attorney by day and vigilante by night played by Charlie Cox, and Kingpin, played by Vince D’Onofrio, as one time characters on Marvel’s original Netflix action series return for the trailer of Daredevil: Born Again.

A tense coffee meeting offers the trailer backdrop for an eventually violent reunion of Cox as Murdock, a blind lawyer with superpowers to fight for justice, and supervilliain Wilson Fisk/Kingpin (D’Onofrio), who is now mayor.

“I will admit, it’s not entirely unpleasant seeing you again,” Fisk tells Murdock at one point in the trailer. “I can’t shake the feeling you’re gaming the system,” Murdock tells Fisk who, judging by the scenes of fighting and destruction interspersed in the teaser, has not lost his violent streak.

Daredevil: Born Again will release on March 4 on Disney+. (via THR)

The Russo Brothers have shared a bit of the story behind their return to the MCU with a pair of forthcoming Avengers films, Doomsday and Secret Wars.

In an interview with Empire Magazine published on Monday, filmmaker Anthony Russo, who’s directing the forthcoming films alongside brother Joe, shared that it “took a little time” to begin to think about Avengers: Endgame as anything but the end of their journey with the MCU, after successfully mounting that 2019 title as one of the highest grossing films of all time.

Over the years, he shared, there have been conversations with the team at Marvel and ideas thrown around. But “really what happened was, we ended up stumbling upon an idea that activated all of us,” said Anthony. “You couldn’t see it coming until it came, and once it came it was like, ‘Well, that’s a story we need to tell.”

The Russos announced their commitment to direct the next two Avengers films at Comic-Con 2024, bringing out Robert Downey Jr. to make the bombshell revelation that he, too, would be returning to the franchise — this time, as villain Doctor Doom — after seeing Iron Man die heroically in Endgame.

Before getting around to the new Avengers films, Marvel is set to release titles including Captain America: Brave New World (February 14), Thunderbolts* (May 2) and The Fantastic Four: First Steps (July 25). (via Deadline)

Alex Essoe (Doctor Sleep) has signed on to lead horror flick The Avalanche from filmmaker Johnny Coffeen.

Alongside Essoe is Lou Taylor Pucci (Physical, Evil Dead). The film begins principal photography this month.

Described as a psychological horror, the film follows two former lovers forced together by an avalanche that cuts them off from the world. The synopsis: As the weight of their shared history begins to crack the thin veneer of civility, strange apparitions stir in the dark corners of their shelter. Reality and paranoia bleed together as buried secrets claw their way to the surface, leaving them to question whether the true danger lies outside the cabin—or within.

The film marks Coffeen’s directorial debut. He is a Cuban-American filmmaker whose previous credits include an Assistant Editor role on Destin Daniel Cretton’s Short Term 12. (via Deadline)

Marvel Television chief Brad Winderbaum’s recent explanation about Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man confirms a significant change in the series’ timeline. The animated show, originally set to follow Peter Parker’s early days in the MCU, introduces a pivotal multiverse shift. Instead of Tony Stark becoming Peter’s mentor, Norman Osborn takes his place, marking a major departure from established MCU continuity.

Stark’s absence from Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man results from a key narrative shift, according to Winderbaum.

He told The Official Marvel Podcast that the series begins at a familiar moment from the MCU. “Down to Peter getting the broken Blu-ray player from the trash and he walks into his apartment for the famous moment where Tony Stark is waiting for him to offer him the Stark internship and take him to Berlin. But because of things that happen in the multiverse, because of new, random occurrences, it’s not Tony Stark who’s waiting for him there. It’s Norman Osborn.”

The show explores an alternate version of Parker’s MCU story, with different relationships and influences. Executive producer Dana Vasquez-Eberhardt explained that the series starts after Civil War in the MCU’s sacred timeline, but quickly diverges.
