FOUR NEW FILMS CRACK THE TOP 10 BOX OFFICE11/19/23 @ 2:23 pm EST
Source: Deadline | Comments (0) | E-mail Article | Add a CommentThree new movies found their way into the top five this week at the box office with the prequel
Hunger Games: Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes taking the top spot with $44 million, the lowest opening for any film in the franchise. The animated
Trolls Band Together took second with $30.6 million knocking
The Marvels down to third place with $10.2 million, the steepest drop, -78%, of any MCU film in its second week. The holiday themed
Thanksgiving opened in fourth with $10.2 million as well and fifth place went to the video game adaptation
Five Night’s at Freddy’s in its fourth week. Somewhat surprising is that the
Taika Waititi film
Next Goal Wins opened in seventh with $2.5 million, a number I would’ve expected to be higher with the recent success of
Ted Lasso and

CHRIS CLAREMONT RETURNS TO ONE OF HIS SIGNATURE X-MEN STORIES IN 'WOLVERINE & KITTY PRYDE'01/21/25 @ 12:43 pm EST
Source: Marvel | Categories: X-Men | Comments (0) | E-mail Article | Add a CommentDuring his groundbreaking 16-year run of
Uncanny X-Men, Chris Claremont transformed Marvel’s Merry Mutants into the pop culture phenomenon they are today. Now, his unparalleled impact on the franchise continues with all-new stories that add new depth and revelations to this influential era. This April, Claremont returns to a key turning point for one of the X-Men’s most iconic duos in WOLVERINE AND KITTY PRYDE. Teaming up with rising star artist Damian Couceiro (
X-Men Unlimited,
Groot), Claremont will further reveal Wolverine and Kitty’s adventures in Japan, following their beloved 1984-1985 team-up series,
Kitty Pryde and Wolverine. The saga pits the pair against all-new villains while they forge the incredible bond that redefined them as characters. The series will feature covers delivered by another legendary X-Men talent, artist Alan Davis.
When Kitty Pryde nearly lost her soul to Ogun during her journey to Japan, Logan was there to keep the youngest X-Man on the path to good. But as a mysterious force threatens their lives while staying with Mariko Yashida, it’s going to take all of their combined mutant, ninja and fighting skills to protect those they love! An all-new adventure that at last tells the full story of the duo’s journey in Japan before returning to the X-Men and the heartbreak, trials and tribulations that made the characters who they are today.
“It’s really great returning to this arc, especially since it’s being presented by a wonderful artist, Damian Couceiro!” Claremont said. “It’s the story of what happens between the end of the original
Kitty Pryde and Wolverine mini-series and Logan and Pryde's return home to rejoin the X-Men. Five issues, more than a single story, complete with surprises galore!”
“Obviously, that
Kitty Pryde and Wolverine miniseries is so iconic, taking Kitty from the ‘junior’ X-Man to the fully fledged hero we see when she returns to New York,” Editor Mark Basso added. “But there was a clear gap between the end of this Ogun situation and when Wolverine and Kitty arrive in New York in
Uncanny X-Men #192, and we were thrilled Chris was ready to show what happened in that intervening window. Why was Kitty in such a different headspace when they got back? And hey, where’d Kitty’s father get to? Now you’ll get to see.”

'CAPTAIN PLANET' AND THE PLANETEERS FIGHT A NEW ERA OF DANGERS01/21/25 @ 12:09 pm EST
Source: Dynamite | Categories: Dynamite | Comments (0) | E-mail Article | Add a CommentEarth's ultimate protector returns for a new era of stories, as Dynamite and Warner Bros. Discovery Global Consumer Products present
Captain Planet in an epic new comic series starting this April.
"Every comic creator has their own personal white whale — that singular property they’ve been itching to make their mark on — and for more than a decade
Captain Planet has been mine," said writer David Pepose.
Five ordinary young people from around the world must become humanity's last hope after being chosen to wield elemental rings of Gaia, the High Priestess of Earth. Each Planeteer suddenly finds themselves equipped with abilities aligned with one of the world's elemental forces: Earth, Fire, Wind, Water, and Heart. And in the most dire circumstances, the five can combine these powers together to summon the globe's greatest champion — Captain Planet!
Kwame from Ghana wields the power of Earth.
Wheeler hails from the United States and channels Fire.
Linka's origins are in Russia and she can manipulate Wind.
Gi traces back to South Korea and can control Water.
Ma-Ti is from Brazil and uses Heart.
Red-hot superstar writer David Pepose (
Space Ghost, Cable) fuses his powers with artist Eman Casallos (
Vampirella, Pathfinder) for the first comics series starring Captain Planet in over three decades. They're kicking off the story with an energized, yet faithful modernization of the franchise, in the same vein as Pepose's approach to the smash-hit
Space Ghost series.
Before these would-be eco-warriors can grasp their own newfound powers in pursuit of environmental justice, they're first going to have to learn to trust each other. It will be even more of a trial by fire experience when Gaia is kidnapped, forcing the inexperienced Planeteers to learn in action against the well-financed might of Lucian Plunder. Their first test against the ruthless exploiters of Earth won't be the hardest, but it all starts here!
Pepose is ambitiously embracing bringing this beloved 1990s cartoon to the comics page, for the first time at this scale and tone. It will appeal both to those who grew up on the show and are now seasoned adults in tune with the real world headlines that inspire the challenges of the Planeteers, as well as their children and other younger readers. He has described the excitement in trying to balance a moment to shine in each and every issue for all the main characters, their own emotional arcs, showcasing the might of Captain Planet, and bringing in some of the show's iconic villains.
The first issue is scheduled to release April 23, timed to the same week as Earth Day. Dynamite is also proud to announce that
Captain Planet issues will be printed on 70% recycled paper, as with all of the publisher's periodicals.
For this historic return of the iconic franchise, Dynamite has assembled a team just as diverse as the Planeteers to contribute jaw-dropping covers for the series. The first issue features variants by superstar Mark Spears, known for his
Monsters series; Christian Ward; and Ben Oliver. The first six issues will also feature a special connecting set of covers by Jae Lee and June Chung.
CAPTAIN PLANET #1
will be solicited in Diamond Comic Distributors’ February 2025 Previews catalog, the premier source of merchandise for the comic book specialty market, and slated for release in April 2025. Comic book fans are encouraged to preorder copies of the book with their local comic book retailers. It will also be available for individual customer purchase through digital platforms courtesy of Comixology, Kindle, iBooks, Google Play, Dynamite Digital, ComicsPlus, and more!
WILL MILLY ALCOCK APPEAR IN SUPERMAN?01/19/25 @ 10:12 am EST
Source: The Hollywood Reporter | Comments (0) | E-mail Article | Add a CommentIt's been well believed for a while that the early casting of
Milly Alcock to play Kara Zor-El aka Supergirl was so that the character could debut in this year’s
Superman movie. It was also believed that when
James Gunn said that he had shown the
Superman trailer to an unannounced actress in the film who cried while watching it, that many believed he was speaking of Alcock. People even believe they see Alcock’s reflecting in the damaged robot show in the trailer… if the zoomed in really far that is. All of this could be why when
The Hollywood Reporter had their exclusive about
David Krumholtz and
Emily Beecham joining the now filming
Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow as Kara’s parents, no one really batted an eye when the article said: “Alcock was picked as Supergirl almost a year ago and will first appear in Gunn’s
Superman movie.
Supergirl gets underway this winter and will shoot in the UK.” Was THR simply stating as fact what everyone has come to expect or was this confirmation of Supergirl returning to the big screen for the first time in over forty years? It would explain why Alcock was cast in the role a year before production on the film began.
DC STUDIOS WORKING ON AN ELESWORLDS OPENING01/19/25 @ 9:33 am EST
Source: Threads | Comments (0) | E-mail Article | Add a CommentDC Studios is working on a logo for the Elseworlds productions that will be different from DC Logo and Fanfare we see at the start of the in-universe projects like
Creature Commandos and the upcoming
Superman. We know this because co-head of the studio,
James Gunn, was asked about it on social media by
Jesse T White, “Hey James, If shows like the Penguin and Harley Quinn are now DC Studios shows… why isn’t the DC Studios logo or fanfare attached to them?” To which Gunn replied, “All DC television & film projects are no under DC Studios. Because Harley Quinn was developed long before us we didn’t think it was fair to put the DC Studio fanfare on there. On Penguin, which we had a small hand in developing, we have a different DC Studios animation at the end. We’re currently working on the DC Studios Elseworlds opening.” Having a different opening is more than just a good idea, it would be a way to let audience know for sure at the start of a project whether what they are about to see is part of the main DCU or a stand-alone story.
MARVEL SNAP GOES DOWN WITH TIKTOK01/19/25 @ 9:22 am EST
Source: Forbes | Comments (0) | E-mail Article | Add a CommentWith the Supreme Court ruling allowing the ban of the social media platform TikTok, the popular site went dark Sunday evening along with their sister site Lemon8. But to many people’s surprise, a popular mobile game, Marvel Snap, was also caught up in the ban. When you try to enter the game there is a message that reads: “Marvel Snap is temporarily unavailable in the U.S. Unfortunately Marvel Snap is temporarily unable on U.S. stores and is unavailable to play in the U.S. This outage is a surprise to us and wasn’t planned. Marvel Snap isn’t going anywhere. We’re actively working on getting the game up as soon as possible and will update you once we have more to share.” Second Diner, the developer of the game were caught by surprise and not warned by their parent company Bytedance. It was believed that Bytedance had divested itself from the TikTok related company Nuverse but apparently not enough and all of Bytedance’s games are being taken off-line.
Ben Brode, Marvel Snaps’ Chief Development Officer, is actually recommending that players use a VPN, which can make it seem like you’re playing from Canada, to get around the ban temporarily. It’s believed that this ban will be temporary having to do with the change of political parties in the White House and the CEO of Bytedance has been invited to the next president’s inauguration on Monday.
WAS THIS THE JEDI WHO FOUND JOD NA NAWOOD?01/18/25 @ 11:32 am EST
Source: Twitter | Comments (0) | E-mail Article | Add a CommentThere have been reports that a flashback scene had been considered and then passed on in the
Star Wars: The Skeleton Crew series that would’ve given us a bit more about the background of Jod Na Nawood (
Jude Law) and the Jedi that found him. The reason the scene was cut had to do with the series being told from the kids’ point of view and a flashback wouldn’t make sense. But we may know at least what the Jedi who found Jod would’ve looked like. Actress Yasmine al Massri has posted on social media photos of herself dressed as a Jedi with the following story: “This was the shortest acting job I have done but the most meaningful to the child in me.. playing a Jedi for one scene in Skeleton Crew.. i gave a speech when i crew wrapped me on set saying : you just created the first Arab female Jedi.. thank you.. the scene unfortunately Didn’t make it to the finale cut bc these things happen.. but I can not not share my experience and feelings.. even Liam rehearsed that scene with me and I got to brag about it with his friends which got me Ted Sarandos, visionary filmmaker
David Lynch was working on a new limited series for the streamer when he passed away this week. In a social media post praising Lynch, Sarandos talked about meeting the celebrated creator early on when Netflix was still a physical media rental company to his most recent interaction, and of the project Lynch had brought to them a while back. “It was a David Lynch production, so filled with mystery and risks but we wanted to go on this creative ride with this genius. First Covid, then some health uncertainties lead to this project never being produced but we made it clear that as soon as he was able, we were all in.” With Lynch’s passing, Sarandos admitted that he will “always wonder about what he had in mind for us with what would have been his last project.”
PARAMOUNT+ NOT MOVING FORWARD WITH A THIRD SEASON OF FRAISER01/18/25 @ 10:49 am EST
Source: Deadline | Comments (0) | E-mail Article | Add a CommentThe return of a classic sitcom appears to have come to an end. Paramount+ has opted not to renew
Fraiser for a third season, though CBS Studios plans to shop the
Kelsey Grammer-led comedy to other outlets. Possibilities include Prime Video and Hulu, where the original series are available for streaming. The two seasons so far just couldn’t make a mark on the streaming service that does well with shows created by
Taylor Sheridan and variations on
Star Trek. It was one of only two original comedies on the platform, the other being
Colin From Accounts which is doing well and under a different model. The character of Fraiser Crane began on
Cheers before getting a spinoff series that ran from 1993 until 2004. This new series focused on Fraiser later in his life, having moved to Boston to try and reconnect with his son Freddy played by
Jack Cutmore-Scott. While the new series featured many new characters, they also brought in familiar faces like Frasier’s ex-wife Lilith played by
Bebe Neuwirth and his ex-co-worker Roz played by
Peri Gilpin. There was an attempt to entice
David Hyde Pierce who played Fraiser’s brother Niles into appearing in the series, but he declined.
