HELLBOY CREATOR MIKE MIGNOLA’S FIRST GALLERY SHOW TO BE HOSTED BY PHILIPPE LABAUNE GALLERY

Source: Philippe Labaune Gallery | Categories: Hellboy | Comments (0) | E-mail Article | Add a Comment

On Thursday September 19th, 2024, the renowned Philippe Labaune Gallery in New York City will host the first ever gallery show for the legendary cartoonist and Hellboy creator Mike Mignola. The exhibit will feature over 30 watercolors as well as over 100 black and white pieces, including 50 covers and 10 pages of original comic book art from Hellboy, alongside illustrations by Mignola for Beehive Books’ eagerly anticipated new edition of Carlo Collodi’s Pinocchio. The Philippe Labaune Gallery will host an invitation-only preview event of Hell, Ink, and Water: The Art of Mike Mignola Exhibit on September 18, and a free opening reception at 6 PM on Thursday, September 19. The gallery will also host a book release party for Mignola’s Hell, Ink & Water: The Art of Mike Mignola during New York Comic Con. “Encountering Mike Mignola’s work for the first time is like being dropped into a beautifully crafted dream; you find yourself inclined to remain there rather than waking up,” said Philippe Labaune. “Mignola’s work is eerily captivating. Reading Hellboy in my 20s, I was struck by Mignola’s artistry; his drawing ability, specifically the strength of the black-and-white, his linework, the character design, the depth of his compositions, combined with the narrative force of his images. These all set him apart. Now, some 30-years later, I have the privilege of presenting Mike Mignola’s first gallery exhibition—and not just showcasing his unparalleled linework, but also to share publicly his magnificent ability as a watercolorist, which has been revelatory to me.” The Hell, Ink, and Water: The Art of Mike Mignola Exhibit is part of the yearlong thirtieth anniversary of Mignola’s Hellboy. The art exhibit and anniversary come in advance of the release of some high profile, eagerly anticipated releases from the artist, who was recently inducted into the prestigious Will Eisner Hall of Fame. Beehive Books recently published PINOCCHIO: THE ILLUMINATED EDITION featuring more than 50 exquisite original illustrations from Mignola, alongside over 100 full text annotations by celebrated novelist Lemony Snicket (A Series of Unfortunate Events). On October 15th, IDW will publish Hell, Ink & Water: The Art of Mike Mignola, the official, 64-page hardcover art catalog from the exhibit, featuring featuring 31 new watercolors, which focus on many of the themes near and dear to Mignola: skulls, monsters, and the supernatural. And in January 2025, Dark Horse Comics will publish Bowling With Corpses and Other Strange Tales From Lands Unknown, an anthology of folklore-inspired fantasy stories written and illustrated by Mignola, colored by Dave Stewart, and lettered by Clem Robins. The book will be the first publication from Curious Objects, Mignola’s new imprint at Dark Horse and will set the stage for more weird, wicked, and whimsical stories in the “Lands Unknown” universe from Mignola and frequent collaborator, the acclaimed cartoonist Ben Stenbeck. “It does seem like suddenly there is a whole lot going on,” said Mignola. “Most of these things have been in the works for ages but nice to have them out in the world at last—Especially as all this stuff (the paintings, Pinocchio and Bowling With Corpses) is about life beyond Hellboy. I still love Hellboy (of course) and have my hand in several new Hellboy related projects, but I’m excited to see a very new and different side of myself out there.” The Philippe Labaune gallery is located at 534 West 24th Street in New York and is open from Thursday through Saturday, from 10am to 6pm. The roots of Philippe Labaune Gallery have a strong European influence: among the artists are esteemed creators such as Lorenzo Mattotti, Nicolas de Crécy, Guido Crepax, Dave Mckean or François Schuiten. In recent years, American artists such as Landis Blair, Rebecca Leveille Guay, Frank Miller, and Peter de Sève have helped Philippe Labaune Gallery to foster a community of overlapping art collectors and comic fans from all over the world. The Hell, Ink, and Water: The Art of Mike Mignola Exhibit will be open to the public from Thursday, September 19, to Saturday, October 26.

NEW ANTIHERO STALKS THE SPAWN UNIVERSE IN 'BLOODLETTER' MINISERIES
05/20/25 @ 2:44 pm EST
Source: Image Comics | Categories: Spawn Universe | Comments (0) | E-mail Article | Add a Comment

Helmed by celebrated former editor, Illuminous founder, and writer, Joseph P. Illidge (Batman, Milestone Universe: The Shadow Cabinet) alongside Tim Seeley (Revival, Hack/Slash) and Christian Rosado (Vampirella, Skull and Bones: Savage Storm), Bloodletter will take readers deep into the unspoken lore of Spawn’s world. This five-issue miniseries will launch in June from Image/Todd McFarlane Productions.

Illidge—known for his industry-defining work across the comics platform—brings a commanding vision to the title’s lead, crafting a protagonist as powerful as she is haunted. Working in lockstep with Seeley, Rosado, colorist DC Alonso (Avengers), and letterers AndWorld Design, the creative team paints a portrait of a woman waging war against human and infernal forces.

Tasha Thornwall is The Bloodletter, mystical mercenary of the world's secret underground. A former CIA operative forced to live in the shadows after being outed by Al Simmons 10 years ago, when she learns Al Simmons is alive as Spawn she sets out for revenge. The mission to hunt down and kill Spawn begins in this debut miniseries. Spawn fans won’t want to miss uncovering this secret history stitched together with horror, espionage, and sorcery.

Bloodletter is about our hero, Tasha Thornwall, and how she uses the power of magic and secrets to fight through a world that constantly throws danger from Heaven and Hell at her!” said Illidge. “Working with my fellow brothers-in-arms—Tim and Christian—and using our magical combination of skills to show the fans the secret history of the Spawn Universe is just as wonderful and scary as it sounds. We can't wait to pull you into Tasha's world and never let go!”

Seeley added: “At its core, this story is all about synthesis. For our lead, Tasha, it’s that combination of espionage and street magic that makes her an unkillable survivor in a world where guys like Spawn, Overtkill, and Violator walk. And the comic itself is a synthesis too, of Joe, Christian, and me, something totally new none of us would have concocted on our own.”

“It's blood, magic, it's evil questioning itself, it's also love and redemption,” said Rosado. “Tasha took on a life of her own, and what we do as a team is narrate it, chapter after chapter. In this transgressive and dark world, there's a new character who is a privilege to draw. Joe, Tim, and I have that mission—to make her struggle known and what she has to tell us.”

While Bloodletter carves its own path, the series remains grounded in the legacy of Spawn—a character and universe created by Todd McFarlane that redefined creator-owned comics. With Tasha now stepping into the shadows left behind, the series builds a bridge between the foundational myths and the next era of supernatural storytelling.

Perfect for fans of Something is Killing the Children, Witchblade, Grim, Storm, Catwoman, and Psylocke, Bloodletter blends genre with fury and introduces a deadly new antihero to the ranks.

Bloodletter #1 will be available at local comic shops on Wednesday, June 18:

A LEGEND BEGINS ANEW IN 'THOR' #1 THIS AUGUST

Source: Marvel | Categories: Thor | Comments (0) | E-mail Article | Add a Comment

Thor’s impending demise in the pages of Al Ewing’s IMMORTAL THOR has been teased for months. Now, learn about his coming rebirth! Following IMMORTAL THOR #25 in July, Ewing will launch a new run of THOR alongside artist Pasqual Ferry, who makes a thunderous return to character following his acclaimed work during Matt Fraction’s Thor run. A major shift in Ewing’s overall Thor narrative, THOR #1 sets up a captivating new status quo for the God of Thunder unlike any in his 60+ year history.

THE LEGEND BEGINS! The Norse Myths tell of Gods who walked the Earth, doing great deeds for the mortals who believed in them. But Asgard isn’t real, and never was. The Gods never soared in our skies, never stood with our heroes, never fought for kindness or justice. It was all just a story. Nobody’s coming to help us. But somewhere in the city... a man is waking up.

A man with a hammer.

"Since the very first issue of IMMORTAL THOR, Thor's been facing the end of his tale... but that was only the end of Act One,” Ewing explained. “As the next chapter begins, Thor must face threats he's never faced, from a place he's never been... until now. Is he alive? Is he dead? Is he immortal... or much, much more? You'll have to join us to find out."

Get a sneak peek at Alex Ross’ THOR #1 cover and keep your eyes peeled for it to be fully revealed after IMMORTAL THOR #25 hits stands!
