Deadline reports that Amazon Prime Video’s live action Blade Runner series could be delayed by as long as a year after the production schedule was disrupted amid the writers strike.

The BBC reported that filming on Blade Runner 2099 was due to get underway at Northern Ireland’s Belfast Harbour Studios, but could now be pushed back until Spring 2024.

The writers strike, which is now in its third week, was cited as a factor in the postponement. Amazon had no comment.

Northern Ireland Screen said: “Northern Ireland Screen is extremely disappointed that Blade Runner 2099 is not going ahead at this time due to the ongoing writers’ strike.“The project has been prepping on the ground in Belfast for many months now. The WGA strike has been halting production all over the world and we hope a fair deal is reached soon so crew can get back to work.”

Marvel Studios' Deadpool & Wolverine — which released on digital platforms October 1st — snikt'd the record for the best first-day seller of 2024 on Fandango at Home. Fandango's video-on-demand streaming service (formerly Vudu) announced Tuesday that the R-rated MCU movie, which teams Ryan Reynolds' Deadpool and Hugh Jackman's Wolverine for the first time, topped the day-one sales of the other most-watched movies on the service, including the animated Inside Out 2 and Despicable Me 4, the Blake Lively-starring romantic drama It Ends With Us, and summer blockbusters Bad Boys: Ride or Die and Twisters. The Marvel Studios movie shattered box office records when it hit theaters over the summer, including passing 2019's Joker as the highest-grossing R-rated movie ever and scoring the biggest global opening ($439 million) since Avatar: The Way of Water in 2022. To date, Deadpool & Wolverine has taken in $1.32 billion, which is the second-best box office performance of the year (behind Disney-Pixar's Inside Out 2) and only the second movie this year to cross the billion dollar mark. “Rugrats” is returning to the big screen. Paramount is developing a live-action/ CG hybrid feature film that’s based on the beloved ’90s animated children’s TV show. Tommy Pickles and his pals Chuckie Finster and Phil and Lil DeVille will be animated in the movie, which is set in the real world à la “Sonic the Hedgehog.” It’s unclear who from the original series — the foursome is orbited by bully Angelica Pickles (and her doll Cynthia, who’s a really cool dancer), Tommy’s baby brother Dil Pickles, dog Spike, as well as their parents Didi and Stu Pickles, Chas Finster, Drew and Charlotte Pickles and Betty and Howard DeVille — will appear in the upcoming film. Jason Moore, whose credits include “Pitch Perfect” and the Tina Fey-Amy Poeheler comedy “Sisters,” is directing the film. “Saturday Night Live” actor Mikey Day and head writer Streeter Seidell penned the script. Fans of the Scream franchise have no reason to be scared — the seventh installment is officially on Paramount’s release calendar. Returning franchise star Neve Cambpell and director Kevin Williamson announced Tuesday on social media that Scream VII will hit theaters on Feb. 27, 2026. Campbell all but rescued the revived franchise from extinction earlier this year when announcing she would return to the world of Scream after sitting out Scream VI over a salary dispute with producer Spyglass. When announcing the news, Campbell revealed that in addition to her return, franchise godfather Williamson would direct. Williamson is the creator of the franchise, penning the script to Wes Craven’s 1996 original, as well as Scream 2 and Scream 4. Guy Busick, who wrote 2022’s Scream and Scream VI, will take over writing duties from James Vanderbilt, who is busy directing the feature Nuremberg. (via The Hollywood Reporter)

DC Studios is getting together the Dynamic Duo — just not the one you might expect. Ahead of the debut of DC’s animated Max series “Creature Commandos,” the studio is mounting its first animated feature project, “Dynamic Duo,” with Warner Bros. Pictures Animation. But rather than focus on Batman and Robin, the film will serve as an origin story for Robin and Robin — a.k.a. Dick Grayson and Jason Todd. Matthew Aldrich (“Coco,” “Lightyear”) is writing the film, which will be produced by Matt Reeves’ production company 6th & Idaho — but the story will be separate from Reeves’ ongoing Gotham-verse with “The Batman” and “The Penguin.” Instead, it will depict how the friendship between Grayson and Todd as youths becomes tested by their diverging ideas for what their future should be. (Reports that the characters will begin as a pair of thieves in the film were false.) In the DC comics, after their respective stints as Batman’s sidekick, Robin, Dick becomes the superhero Nightwing, while Jason transforms into the violent vigilante Red Hood. “Dynamic Duo” represents the first new project from DC Studios since James Gunn and Peter Safran first presented their slate of film and TV projects in early 2023. Prime Video‘s “Reacher” universe is expanding with the series order of a spinoff starring Maria Sten. “The Untitled Neagley Project,” as the show is referred to in a press release, focuses on Sten’s Frances Neagley, a private investigator in Jack Reacher’s circle. “When she learns that a beloved friend from her past has been killed in a suspicious accident, she becomes hell bent on justice,” the show’s synopsis reads. “Using everything she’s learned from Jack Reacher and her time as a member of the 110 Special Investigators, Neagley puts herself on a dangerous path to uncover a menacing evil.” Amazon MGM Studios head Jennifer Salke made the announcement at the Prime Video Presents: Trailblazers event on Tuesday in London, with Sten also on hand to share her excitement. “I love Neagley,” Sten told the audience. “She’s so fun to play, she’s so quirky and has so much complexity.” Though a release date has not yet been revealed, the series will stream exclusively on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories. Benedict Cumberbatch‘s Sherlock could be about to dust off his magnifying glass. Sue Vertue, who produced the beloved BBC reimagining of Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes detective stories, has said the brand is likely to return. “We love that show and there is a future for it. One day. Maybe. If everyone wants to do it,” Vertue told Deadline on the blue carpet at the Amazon Prime Video Trailblazers event in London. “I’ve still got the set in storage somewhere, which is probably rotten, to be honest with you,” she added. “It’s just getting everybody aligned, it’s getting the actors to want to do it.” Cumberbatch starred in the series alongside Martin Freeman‘s John Watson. They were last together on screen in 2017, with their final mystery titled The Final Problem.

Booher (Rain) and fan-favorite artist Drew Zucker (The House), the team behind hit fantasy comic book series Canto, are teaming up again for the new horror one-shot comic book The Feeding from Syzygy Publishing and Image Comics. Debuting this October, the oversized comic is a throwback to self-contained horror and sci-fi stories in the vein of Tales from the Crypt, Creepshow, and The Twilight Zone.
