Source: Deadline | Comments (0) | E-mail Article | Add a Comment

To no one’s surprise, John Wick: Chapter 4 took the weekend box office, but by how much was the question. The fourth Keanu Reeves lead film opened with a franchise best $73.5M domestically and another $64M overseas. This is the actors second-best domestic opening after Matrix Reloaded ($91.7M) in 2003 and his second-best international opening after Matrix Revolutions ($201.4M) also in 2003. It’s also the second-best domestic opening of the year after Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania ($106.1M). The second movie on the chart is Shazam! Fury of the Gods, which dropped 68% in it’s second week, making $9.7 million. This was followed by Scream VI ($8.4M), Creed III ($8.36M), 65 ($3.25M) and Quantumania ($2.42M). It is worth noting that five of the top six films are all sequels.  John Wick

Is a Live-Action Atlantis Movie Releasing Soon? New Speculation Explained

Viral images of a live-action version of Disney's Atlantis: The Lost Empire have fans questioning whether a remake is coming. The 2001 animated film followed Milo Thatch, a bookish cartographer voiced by Michael J. Fox, who leads a group of mercenaries to the lost city of Atlantis. Unfortunately, the images, including pictures of Millie Bobby Brown as Kida, are fake and only AI depictions of what a remake of the animated film could look like. In addition, a live-action Atlantis: The Lost Empire is not among Disney's upcoming remakes, which include Snow White, Moana, and Lilo & Stitch. (via The Direct)

Watchmen and Crisis On Infinite Earths Animated Movies Announced

The newest adaptation of DC's Watchmen has been shrouded in mystery. It reportedly splits the events of Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons' DC maxiseries of the same name into a two-movie animated saga — and now we have a new detail of exactly what that will entail. According to a new listing from the MPAA's Film Ratings board, Watchmen: Chapter I is "Rated R for violent content and some graphic nudity." While a plot synopsis has not officially been given by Warner Bros. Animation, it has been safe to assume that the Watchmen animated movie will adhere to the plot of Moore and Gibbons' source material. In it, a group of retired superheroes in an alternate 1985 America must join forces again, after one of their own is murdered. (via ComicBook.com)

The Schwartz is with Amazon MGM Studios, where a sequel to the 1980s parody film Spaceballs is in early development, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed. Josh Gad and Mel Brooks are producing the project that has Gad attached to star. Josh Greenbaum is helming the comedy from a script by Gad, Benji Samit and Dan Hernandez. Plot details for the sequel to the Star Wars-spoofing comedy feature have not yet been shared. Kevin Salter will serve as executive producer on the new one. Originally released by MGM in 1987, Spaceballs starred Bill Pullman, John Candy, Rick Moranis and Daphne Zuniga, as well as a voice role for Joan Rivers as a C-3P0 parody. The film earned $38.1 million at the box office ($105 million in today’s dollars).
PAUL MESCAL’S ‘GLADIATOR 2’ ROCKS CINEEUROPE WITH EPIC NEW FOOTAGE

While the seemingly never-ending saga over Paramount‘s future ownership may be still rumbling on, the studio didn’t hold back when it came to putting on a grand spectacle at the 2024 CineEurope trade show. “Gladiator 2” was — unsurprisingly — the main event of Paramount’s slate presentation in Barcelona. Ridley Scott’s return to Ancient Rome after almost 25 years was given top billing with a giant cardboard coliseum erected around the main auditorium, flanked by stern-faced Roman legionnaires. Audiences at CinemaCon in the U.S. may have gotten the first look at the hotly-anticipated sequel — starring a bulked-out Paul Mescal in the lead role — but across the Atlantic, CineEurope attendees were treated to some epic and never-before-seen extended footage featuring Mescal and co-star Pedro Pascal, alongside an as-yet-unreleased trailer. Denzel Washington, Connie Nielson and Joseph Quinn also star in the film, due out Nov. 15. (via Variety)

'Inside Out 2' box office

Disney/Pixar‘s Inside Out 2 grossed $29.1M stateside yesterday, repping a Tuesday record for an animated movie. That beats the first Tuesday gross of 2018’s Incredibles 2 at $27M. The haul flies the Kelsey Mann-directed movie past the double century point at the domestic B.O. in its fifth day with $205.7M, making it the second-highest-grossing movie of 2024 YTD behind Dune: Part Two‘s $282.1M. Worldwide was $46M yesterday taking the global cume for Inside Out 2 to $380M. Stateside, Inside Out 2‘s box office reps the sixth-highest-grossing non-opening Tuesday of all time behind Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Avengers: Endgame, Spider-Man: No Way Home, The Lion King (2019) and The Force Awakens‘ second Tuesday. Overall, it’s the eighth-highest-grossing Tuesday. (via Deadline)
VAULT COMICS ANNOUNCES HORROR-COMEDY SERIES 'GOOBERS'
06/18/24 @ 3:44 pm EST
Source: Vault Comics | Categories: MIsc | Comments (0) | E-mail Article | Add a Comment

Vault Comics is thrilled to announce GOOBERS, a darkly comedic horror series written by star scribe Cody Ziglar (Spider-Punk, Miles Morales: Spider-Man, Futurama), drawn by Ryan Lee (Rick and Morty), colored by Kurt Michael Russell (Money Shot, The Nasty), lettered by Andworld, and designed by Adam Cahoon. A body-snatching splatter-fest of horror and humor, GOOBERS is equal parts Night of the Creeps, Shaun of the Dead, and Attack the Block. The story centers around Clayton Lowe as he heads back to his small Southern hometown. His new friends from grad school are about to meet his old friends from high school and discover that something may have finally changed in the town where nothing ever changes: Pine Cove is ground zero for an infestation of body-snatching alien-bugs. And now, it’s time to bury the past. “I grew up watching 80s and 90s b-horror films,” said Ziglar. “I also grew up in a small country town. Goobers is a love letter to both! I love being able to smash some of my favorite genres, movies, and comics together with my love of North Carolina. I also loved being able to voice the frustration of growing up in a small town and being self-conscious about what they thought of me and how I lived my life. Back in 2021 during peak covid, I moved back home for 6 months to spend time with my parents and that’s where Goobers was truly born. “I kept wondering what made certain towns feel the same, even if there are small changes, and landed on the obvious answer: alien worms must invade and body-snatch folks," continued Ziglar. "Goobers, in many ways, in just my comedic look on processing those emotions while also paying homage to some of my favorite films like Shaun of the Dead, Night of the Creeps, Get Out, and Revenge of the living Dead." "Upon my first pass of Cody’s script for Goobers, I recognized our kindred creative sensibilities and knew this would be riot to work on," added Lee. "This script was hilarious and heartfelt, but hardcore when it gets in the guts of the terror and action. Goobers squirmed its spiked larval body into that monster infatuation I've treasured since childhood. I was blessed to grow up in a golden era of mischievous little freaks: Gremlins, Ghoulies. Critters, Munchies. Trolls, Madballs. Garbage Pail Kids. Comics. Cracked Monster Parties. The monster books of Mercer Mayer. These were my muses. There's a magic in those freaks that buried their claws into my brain and jolted my imagination to draw and create my own beastlies. Enter "Goobers": the continuation of an obsession." GOOBERS issue #1 will hit store shelves in September, 2024. The series will feature an incredible lineup of variant covers from a fan-favorite artists like Spider-Punk’s Justin Mason, and The Nasty’s Adam Cahoon.

WRITER DANIEL WARREN JOHNSON TEAMS WITH ARTIST RILEY ROSSMO FOR 'THE MOON IS FOLLOWING US'

Source: Image Comics | Categories: Image | Comments (0) | E-mail Article | Add a Comment

Hot off the 2023 Eisner Award winning Do a Powerbomb and skyrocketing to fame with his fresh spin on the Eisner Award nominated Transformers comic book series, Daniel Warren Johnson teams with dynamo artist Riley Rossmo for an all-new, heart-wrenching tale in the upcoming, The Moon is Following Us. This ten issue miniseries sees Rossmo's return to Image Comics and is set to launch in September. Sam and Duncan LaMarr love their six-year-old daughter, Penny, more than anything in the whole world. But half a year ago, she was taken by the Cascade, an evil force they barely understand. Now, Sam and Duncan must fight side by side with the magical beings Penny cherished to try and get her back…before she’s gone forever. “Not only is Riley an amazing person, but his linemaking and design sensibilities are some of the best I’ve ever seen. He is the perfect co-creator and artist to tackle such a huge and expansive world that we’ve made in The Moon is Following Us," said Johnson. "Riley takes my scripts farther than I could have ever imagined, building on top of something I wrote and expanding it into something more wonderful, creepy, and wild than I could have ever done on my own. This book is very personal; it comes from a deep place inside both of us and we are so happy to share it with our fantastic readers." Rossmo added: “The Moon is Following Us is as collaborative as you can get creating comics. It’s been amazing working with another artist on a book. Being able to send character designs and layouts back and forth has led to some great pages and covers. If I’m stuck on a composition, I can call DWJ and he’ll send me a 30-second doodle to give me an idea to get past it. Plus, Mike’s colors and Shawn’s lettering is as good as it gets. I’m very grateful to be working with such wonderful people on such a fun book.”

The Moon is Following Us #1 will be available at comic book shops on Wednesday, September 18:

Cover B by Johnson & Spicer (wraparound) - Lunar Code 0724IM275

‘STREET FIGHTER’ MOVIE LOSES ‘TALK TO ME’ FILMMAKERS DANNY & MICHAEL PHILIPPOU

Source: Hollywood Reporter | Categories: Street Fighter | Comments (0) | E-mail Article | Add a Comment

The streets are empty for Danny and Michael Philippou. The Australian twin filmmaking duo behind last year’s surprise horror hit Talk to Me are no longer working on Street Fighter, Legendary’s feature adaptation of the classic video game from Capcom. Scheduling is partly to blame, The Hollywood Reporter is reporting. Legendary and Capcom were hoping to begin sooner than later. The Philippous, however, shifted focus to Bring Her Back, which reteams them with their Talk to Me studio A24. That project, which will star Sally Hawkins and Billy Barratt, begins shooting later this month in Australia. Street Fighter is now looking for a new filmmaker. Street Fighter is one of the more enduring fighting video game franchises of all time.
