BEWARE THE MARITIME MENACES OF MONSTER ISLAND IN 'GODZILLA: HERE THERE BE DRAGONS'03/23/23 @ 6:27 pm EST
Source: IDW | Categories: Godzilla | Comments (0) | E-mail Article | Add a CommentIDW, under license by Toho International, Inc., turns back the hands of time with the upcoming comic book miniseries
Godzilla: Here There Be Dragons. Written by Frank Tieri and illustrated by Inaki Miranda, the creative team behind the DC Comics’
Old Lady Harley series, this five-part epic, beginning in June, takes readers back to an era of seafaring and superstition for a
Godzilla adventure like no other.

In the 1500s, before humanity had successfully traveled the entire globe, it was believed that monsters ruled the oceans just beyond the horizon. “Here there be dragons…” was written on maps to denote the areas people dared not go. That is, until Sir Francis Drake circumnavigated the seas, visiting foreign lands and collecting treasure. Or…at least that’s what history tells us. The truth is, tremendous beasts did lurk yonder, dwelling on an island that doesn’t appear on any map, even to this day. And among those monsters was the king of them all…Godzilla!
“I’ve been very fortunate in my career to have written for quite a few iconic franchises, but I have to admit, there’s something extra special about getting to work on
Godzilla,” says Tieri. “Just writing this series I’m instantly a little kid again, watching him fight Rodan or the Smog Monster or whichever Monster of the Week. Needless to say, it’s been a thrill for me…but probably less so for my family, since I’ve been doing the Godzilla roar around the house pretty much nonstop.”
Tieri continues, “What could be cooler than a Godzilla tale with pirates?
Here There Be Dragons is a lost voyage of Sir Francis Drake, told through the eyes of a crewman facing execution. The question is, is he telling the truth? Is there really a conspiracy to cover up what happened to Drake on that island and the existence of Godzilla? Or is this merely another pirate’s tall tale? Avast, ye Godzilla fans, and batten down the hatches at your local comic book shop!”

“
Godzilla is one of those unique historic creations that is part pop-culture icon, part pure joy and entertainment, and also a metaphor of the ways of society hurting itself, with humans confronting the raw power of our own fears and missteps,” says Miranda. “I’m genuinely thankful to Toho and IDW for having me onboard to illustrate Godzilla smashing ships and fighting kaiju. Collaborating with my buddy Frank is always a pleasure. I enjoy every scene that he is writing, playing with the myths of the old world. It’s a sure recipe for fun, discovery, and fascination!”

“I love the way
Here There Be Dragons combines classic mythology from the past with a truly modern legend, causing readers to look at both in new ways,” says IDW’s executive editorial director Jamie S. Rich. “It’s great to see Godzilla away from skyscrapers, taking on a foe that doesn’t have the technological weaponry to fight monsters from a great distance. And I do mean
monsters. Godzilla is not alone out there, and I love reading every new issue to see what else Frank and Inaki have cooked up for Godzilla to fight.”
Godzilla: Here There Be Dragons #1 will be available with multiple cover variants for retailers and fans to enjoy, including Cover A by series illustrator Inaki Miranda, Cover B by Tyler Kirkham, and two retailer incentive editions by Kirkham and Benjamin Dewey.

MICHAEL KEATON TALKS THE FUN FEELING OF MAKING 'BEETLEJUICE 2'06/05/23 @ 8:29 pm EST
Source: Empire | Categories: MIsc | Comments (0) | E-mail Article | Add a Comment
Empire recently hosted the one and only Michael Keaton as part of a VIP event also featuring a screening of 1989's
Batman and the upcoming
The Flash, in which he reprises his iconic superhero role for the first time in decades. But Keaton also opened up about the joy of working on another film which features a return for one of his classic characters:
Beetlejuice 2.
Keaton is clearly enthusiastic to be once again back with old friend, director Tim Burton, and finding more chaos for his bio-exorcist lunatic to cause.
"
Beetlejuice is the most f**kin’ fun you can have working. It’s so fun, it’s so great. And you know what it is? We’re doing it exactly like we did the first movie," he says. "There’s a woman in the great waiting room for the afterlife literally with a fishing line – I want people to know this because I love it – tugging on the tail of a cat to make it move."
The
Beetlejuice sequel is something that has been in development limbo for years, but Burton and Keaton are finally shooting it. And from the sounds of it, doing exactly what they want.
Beetlejuice 2 will be in cinemas on September 6, 2024.

‘HOCUS POCUS 3’ IS HAPPENING AT DISNEY+ FOLLOWING SUCCESFUL SEQUEL06/05/23 @ 12:31 pm EST
Source: Deadline | Categories: Disney | Comments (0) | E-mail Article | Add a Comment
The Sanderson sisters will be returning to cause more wicked chaos with
Hocus Pocus 3,
Deadline reports, some 30 years after the original movie was first released.
Disney+ is developing another sequel to the film starring Bette Midler, Kathy Najimy and Sarah Jessica Parker. Sean Bailey, President of Walt Disney Studios Motion Picture Production, confirmed the news in an interview with The New York Times.
It’s no surprise that a sequel is being developed as
Hocus Pocus 2 was a hit for the streamer, setting a record with 2.7 billion minutes of viewing.
Hocus Pocus was first released in 1993 and directed by Kenny Ortega from a screenplay by Mick Garris and Neil Cuthbert and a story by David Kirschner and Garris. The film follows a trio of witches who are inadvertently resurrected by a teenage boy on Halloween night.
A sequel to the family cult film was finally greenlit and
Hocus Pocus 2 was released in 2022 with the trio of stars reprising their roles as the Sanderson sisters. The follow-up film was directed by Anne Fletcher, with a screenplay by Jen D’Angelo and a story by Kirschner, Blake Harris and D’Angelo.

The Korean trailer for
The Flash has made its way online, and with it comes some new footage not seen in other trailers.
And, reports
MovieWeb, that includes the special appearance of a fellow member of the Justice League, though we don't exactly get a clear look at the superhero.
The moment happens very early into the trailer when Barry Allen (Ezra Miller) gets a call from Ben Affleck's Batman, setting the scene in the DCEU, aka the Snyderverse. At the same time, a television screen reveals that Superman is on the scene where a volcano has erupted in Guatemala, and a snippet of footage shows the Man of Steel using his laser vision in an effort to help.

The Flash will be premiering in movie theaters on June 16.
