ANOTHER DOWN WEEKEND AT THE BOX OFFICE02/25/24 @ 2:39 pm EST
Source: Deadline | Comments (0) | E-mail Article | Add a CommentAt some point we need to talk about how the box office numbers have drastically changed and that people just aren’t going to the movie theaters like they used to. A lot of studios are now just releasing films with little to no fanfare to get them through the theatrical window and into the streaming queue where they will either break even or make a little money. This weekend’s top 10 is a perfect example of that as the
Bob Marley: One Love biopic stayed at the top with another $13.5 million, which is far from good in a weekend that is struggling to make an overall $70 million total. Sony’s animated
Demon Slayer was second making $11.6 million which was exactly what it was expected to do but the third place film,
Ordinary Angels, the faith-based film with rising star
Alan Ritchson, made only $6.5 million for it’s debut, which is the type of numbers it would have gotten with no name draw at all. Sony’s
Madame Web dropped 61% to just $6 million in its second week and the animated
Migration round out the top five with another $3 million, adding to its 10-week total of $120.4 million. This upcoming weekend will see the release of Dune Part II which could turn things around but it's hard to estimate how the film will do when the first part was released day-and-date on MAX a few years back. Is there really an audience for this sci-fi epic or did fans watch it becaues it was free?
IT'S DRAFT DAY, BUT WITHOUT COSTNER AND FOCUSED ON BASKETBALL01/25/25 @ 1:40 pm EST
Source: Deadline | Comments (0) | E-mail Article | Add a CommentIf you’re like me and love the movie
Draft Day, then this news will interest you some. The 2014
Ivan Reitman film starred
Kevin Costner,
Jennifer Garner,
Frank Langella,
Dennis Leary,
Chadwick Boseman and
Tom Welling along with a lot of other “Wait, isn’t that…” appearances from notable actors and sports figures. It follows a new GM for the Cleveland Browns on his first NFL Draft day, an event that has gone from an afternoon in a hotel ballroom with about six reporters covering it to a three-day televised spectacle with months of build-ups and mock drafts. Well, Lionsgate TV has decided to take that concept and develop it as a television series… and instead of focusing on the surprisingly popular NFL draft, they will be moving over to the NBA. This might have something to do with
LeBron James production company SpringHill also being involved. How the series will be structured remains to be seen.

Source: Deadline | Comments (0) | E-mail Article | Add a CommentDark Horse Comics has announced through social media that they will no longer be working with
Neil Gaiman and have cancelled his
Anansi Boys comic series in the wake of the sexual allegations brought against the author. Posting on X Friday evening the publisher wrote: “Dark Horse takes seriously the allegations against Neil Gaiman and we are no longer publishing his works. Confirming that the ‘Anansi Boys’ comic series and collected volume have been canceled.” Previous fallout from the allegations include Prime Video changing the originally planned full third season of
Good Omens into a 90-minute movie finale and Gaiman exiting his creative role in the project. Disney has also put a planned feature adaptation of Gaiman’s 2008
The Graveyard Book on hold. Netflix’s second season of
The Sandman is expected to be released sometime this year after the series was already in production prior to the release of the allegations.
DC STUDIOS FINDS THEIR SINESTRO FOR LANTERNS01/25/25 @ 12:58 pm EST
Source: Deadline | Comments (0) | E-mail Article | Add a CommentThe upcoming HBO series
Lanterns has cast
Ulrich Thomsen as the iconic DC villain Sinestro. Thomsen is known for his roles in
Banshee and
The Blacklist. He'll be joining the previously announced leads
Kyle Chandler as Hal Jordan and
Aaron Pierre as John Stewart. Sinestro was originally a member of the Green Lantern Corps, an intergalactic police force that wields power rings to protect the universe. Sinestro was considered one of the greatest Green Lanterns due to his strength, intellect, and skill. However, his desire for order and control led him to abuse his power. He believed that fear was a more effective tool for maintaining order than willpower. This divergence in philosophy eventually caused him to be expelled from the Green Lantern Corps. He would convince the Weaponers of Qward to make him a yellow power rings based on fear instead of willpower. He would eventually use this ring to create the Sinestro Corps. His interactions with characters like Hal Jordan and John Stewart are central to many of the Green Lantern stories. How he will tie into a series that has been described as a murder mystery in the Midwest remains to be seen. The series is from
Chris Mundy,
Damon Lindelof and
Tom King.

This April, acclaimed Spider-Man scribe Joe Kelly, superstar talent Pepe Larraz, and legendary Spider-Man artist John Romita Jr. launch a new run of AMAZING SPIDER-MAN, packed with exciting developments in the life of Peter Parker, including new career aspects, a promising romance, AND the introduction of an all-new supervillain! Today, fans can check out a preview of the debut issue, giving you a first look at Larraz’s incredible take on Spidey storytelling and wall crawler action!
Featuring colors by Marte Gracia and lettered by longtime
Amazing Spider-Man letterer VC’s Joe Caramagna, the pulse-pounding preview depicts a fight between Spider-Man and one of his most iconic foes – the Rhino! But something is off with Rhino’s latest rampage, and after it reaches a tragic end, Spidey will dive headfirst into a dangerous conspiracy. Someone has been amping up his villains — making them meaner, more aggressive and increasingly dangerous to everyone around them — and Spidey is next!
“Spider-Man was probably the first Marvel comic I read when I was a kid,” Larraz shared. “It is a privilege for me to be able to draw this character, even more so that it's guided by Joe Kelly's hand. I'm a huge fan of Joe's writing, from the way he builds characters to his dialogue, humor, and sense of action. Joe is great at everything he does, but the most important thing for me is that his stories matter, touching upon themes that are always relevant.”

'KID COWBOY': NICKELODEON DEBUTS ORIGINAL ANIMATED SHOW ON YOUTUBE01/24/25 @ 1:50 pm EST
Source: Hollywood Reporter | Categories: MIsc | Comments (0) | E-mail Article | Add a CommentNickelodeon has built up a huge following on YouTube, with more than 50 channels devoted to properties ranging from
SpongeBob SquarePants to
Paw Patrol. What it hasn’t done — until now — is launched an original animated series on the platform.
On Friday, Nick debuted
Kid Cowboy, a show aimed at preschoolers that follows the title character and his best friend, Luna, as they keep watch over and fight for justice in the futuristic world of Esperanza (with help from their robot horses). Grammy-nominated songwriter and producer Freddy Wexler created the series and executive produces with multiple Grammy winner Emilio Estefan; the two are also the show’s principal composers.
Kid Cowboy will launch on Nick’s
Blaze and the Monster Machines YouTube channel. Should it prove successful, it would spin off into its own channel, said Ashley Kaplan, executive VP of Nickelodeon Unscripted & Digital Franchise Studio. Though
Kid Cowboy initially came through Nickelodeon’s traditional development system, it eventually became the first original animated series for YouTube — which, Kaplan notes, is the prime destination for kids viewing. (via The Hollywood Reporter)
LEGENDARY’S ‘GODZILLA X KONG’ SEQUEL ADDS KAITLYN DEVER TO CAST01/24/25 @ 1:28 pm EST
Source: Deadline | Categories: Godzilla | Comments (0) | E-mail Article | Add a CommentEveryone’s favorite titans are getting a new human co-star for their follow-up to
Godzilla x Kong.
Deadline is reporting that Kaitlyn Dever is in negotiations to join the cast in the latest sequel to Legendary’s Monsterverse movie
. Grant Sputore steps in as director following in footsteps of Adam Wingard, who directed the last two pics, from a script by Dave Callaham.
The new movie is described as a continuation of the franchise centering on Godzilla, Kong and an assortment of other Titans. Insiders say that while Kong and Godzilla will still be fronting the film, Legendary is looking to build on its human characters and the first logical choice landed on Dever, whose star has been on the rise for some time.
She now joins the franchise as it combines character-driven storytelling with its signature epic scale and Titan-clashing action in Sputore’s vision.
RED SONJA TAKES ON THE ARMY OF DARKNESS IN NEW SERIES01/23/25 @ 1:44 pm EST
Source: Dynamite | Categories: Dynamite | Comments (0) | E-mail Article | Add a CommentTwo juggernaut franchises of epic action clash this April, as Dynamite is excited to announce a new comic series
Red Sonja vs. The Army of Darkness from superstar writer Tim Seeley!
Fans are invited to sharpen their swords, load up their boomsticks, and rev their chainsaws, because it's time to take on the undead hordes of the Army of Darkness once more! The wisecracking Deadite-slayer Ashley J. Williams finds himself hurtling through space and time again, but this trip is special. This time he's teaming up with the She-Devil With a Sword herself. Has he met his match in ass-kicking and quip-slinging?
The unexpected team-up duo will have to learn to work together, because the stakes could not be higher. When the evil being lurking in the shadows this time ends up being none other than the feared dread wizard of the Hyborian Age, Kulan Gath, it's going to take everything to win this battle. Nothing could possibly be worse than Red Sonja's arch nemesis getting his hands on the
Necronomicon!
Comics renaissance man Tim Seeley (
Hack/Slash, Nightwing) takes up his pen to chronicle the latest and greatest chapter in the ongoing sagas of both of these beloved characters. He's joined by his frequent collaborator Jim Terry (
Sundowners, Alice Cooper vs. Chaos!) who tackles the artwork of this comedy, horror, and action concoction.
Longtime Dynamite fans will be excited to see two of the publisher's earliest pillars in its 20-plus year history in action together. They also may remember Tim Seeley's long legacy with at least half of the equation. Seeley was there practically day one, contributing art for a cover for the
AOD: Ashes 2 Ashes series that kicked off the entire Dynamite comics legacy. He's returned since, including for a crossover between Ash and his own
Hack/Slash. But miraculously, this is his first stab at the She-Devil!
"I’ve been obsessed with
AoD since I saw the movie way back in 1992 — in fact, the first
Hack/Slash story began life as a pitch to get the rights for
AoD for comics!," said writer Tim Seeley. "Having Red Sonja teamed with Ash, a character I know really well, lets me really emphasize her badass feminist qualities, as Ash is an often befuddled sexist idiot."
In preparing for the series, Seeley has cited how the infusion of Army of Darkness into Sonja's world allows him to try a modernized take on the She-Devil's earliest era and creative legends the likes of Roy Thomas, Frank Thorne, John Buscema, and others. Army of Darkness' unique take on medieval fantasy works perfectly contrasted with the lush, high-fantasy vision of Red Sonja. Which should entice Sonja fans of all eras.
To showcase these two legends on a set of variant covers, Dynamite editor Matt Idelson has recruited the likes of Seeley himself, as well as Bjorn Barends, scorching hot superstar Mark Spears (
Mark Spears' Monsters), and the Dynamite debut of Nikkol Jelenic!
RED SONJA VS. THE ARMY OF DARKNESS #1

SNEAK PEEK AT CHRISTOPHER PRIEST'S 'VAMPIRELLA: THE LONG NIGHT'01/23/25 @ 1:24 pm EST
Source: Dynamite | Categories: Vampirella | Comments (0) | E-mail Article | Add a CommentDynamite Entertainment, legendary writer Christopher Priest, and Turkish virtuoso artist Ergün Gündüz are soon to unleash the next phase of the their pivotal run on Vampirella.
"The Long Night" story arc begins this March in
Vampirella #1, also sporting a "legacy numbering" of #676 as part of the continuing road to the milestone #700. Priest is also nearing 80 total issues contributed to the mythos just a couple issues into this latest arc, including his flagship titles as well as key spinoffs like
Sacred Six and
Draculina. He's reunited again with Gündüz, who he started this latest masterpiece of his with back in 2019, joining the ranks of his brilliant works on titles like
Black Panther, Deathstroke, Justice League, Quantum & Woody, Conan the Barbarian, and others. Ahead of the story starting soon, Priest and Dynamite are sharing some teases and artwork!
Following the turbulent events of preceding story arcs like
Vampirella/Dracula: Unholy, Year One, and
Rage, the Daughter of Drakulon now finds herself a parent. Finally reunited with her son, she's tragically beset by a severe case of postpartum depression. Priest and Gündüz will be depicting a misunderstood, but relatively common part of the human experience that has rarely been portrayed in genre comic book stories.
Tied to her tumultuous emotions and uncertainty in life, Vampirella's path may set her on a destiny as an authoritarian ruler of a cyberpunk future. In issue #2 and beyond, readers will get peeks at this apocalyptic vision of Earth. Vampirella's history goes back to 1969, both behind the scenes and in-story due to her nearly ageless Drakulonian biology. Priest's story started in 2019 for her 50th anniversary. What could the far off — but not too far — future of 2069 look like when she'll be celebrating her 100th? Fans are invited to join the party for this nontraditional anniversary celebration.
Last but certainly not least, in the present a mysterious figure will enter Vampi's life. Going by Cicero, he claims to be her son from the future. Which will be all the more complicated when son meets son, as the present and future directly cross paths. Is his story true, and can he be trusted?
Priest and Gündüz are continuing to bring this story together, with more exciting moments and characters to be revealed!
VAMPIRELLA #1 (676) is solicited in Diamond Comic Distributors’ January 2025 Previews catalog, the premier source of merchandise for the comic book specialty market, and slated for release in March 2025. Comic book fans are encouraged to preorder copies of the book with their local comic book retailers. Strap on your goggles and hit those gas pedals, as Giant-Size Wacky Races is geared up at the starting line with three thrilling chapters of high-octane adventure from the creative team of writer Ivan Cohen, superstar artist in the making Mariano Benitez Chapo, and colorist Nick Caponi.
"After teaming a cartoon dog and his crime-solving pals with a brooding billionaire vigilante, the logical next step in my career was to update the classic
Wacky Races for the 2020s, blending the original cartoon with elements of pro wrestling, action films, and a hint of Furiosa for good measure," said writer Ivan Cohen. "Editor Joe Rybandt gave me and artists Mariano Benitez Chapo and Nick Caponi the keys, and we'd really prefer not to give them back any time soon. I can't wait for readers to see where we are taking Penelope Pitstop and the cast of the
Wacky Races. To call it a wild ride is an understatement."
The most eccentric auto enthusiasts to ever speed past the checkered flag are back in their drivers' seats. Savage Tales previously.
