ANOTHER MARVEL VALKYRIE DESTINED FOR THE MCU?
01/28/20 @ 9:33 am EST
Source: MCUCosmic | Categories: Marvel | Comments (0) | E-mail Article | Add a Comment

In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, there are multiple Valkyries. They were warrior defenders of Asgard. As we saw in Thor: Ragnarok, they bravely faced off against Hela and we’re led to believe that Valkyrie was the lone survivor. As with everything in Marvel, there tends to be surprises.

MCUCosmic is reporting that Marvel Studios plans to use the character Mist sometime in the future.

Created by the legendary Chris Claremont, Art Adams, and Terry Austin in the mid-80s New Mutants comic book, Mist is a Valkyrie. She was a friend of Danielle Moonstar, one of the New Mutants and someone who appears in the upcoming movie; although it’s doubtful that connection will continue into the MCU due to Marvel planning a long reboot for the Mutants.

Instead, it’s likely that Mist will show up in something connected to Thor. Be it the Loki series that’s filming now, or more realistically Thor: Love and Thunder, or possibly something different.

'SNAKE EYES: G.I. JOE ORIGINS' BRINGS ANDREW KOJI AS NEW STORM SHADOW

Storm Shadow

At the start of this year, October was looking huge for Andrew Koji. Warrior, the groundbreaking Cinemax series launches into Season 2 starting on October 2nd. Koji plays the lead role of Ah Sahm, the character that Bruce Lee wrote for himself in his 8-page treatment that inspired the series. That’s still on. However, Koji’s first starring role on the big screen is off. Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins which was originally scheduled to premiere three weeks later, has been postponed until next year.

Snake Eyes aspires to be a back-door pilot for the G.I. Joe franchise akin to what Bumblebee was for Transformers. Both franchises are Hasbro properties based on their iconic and lucrative toy lines, and there’s even talk of a crossover film connecting the G.I. Joe and Transformers universes.

Snake Eyes capitalizes on the growing popularity of the G.I. Joe ninjas, conveniently increasing marketability for the flourishing Asian markets. The standout scene in G.I. Joe: Retaliation was the ninja cliff battle. In 3D, that scene delivered just the sort of eye-popping spectacle that fandom craves.

In the first two installments, G.I. Joe ninjas remained masked, but since this is an origin story, they’ll don their masks for Snake Eyes. Originally, Snake Eyes was played by Ray Park, Darth Maul from Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace. Henry Golding (Crazy Rich Asians) takes over that titular role for the new film. Koji takes over the role of Storm Shadow who was originally played by Lee Byung-hun (Terminator: Genisys). Filling out the cast are martial arts master Iko Uwais (The Raid), internationally acclaimed Ursula Corbero (Money Heist), and ingénue Samara Weaving (Bill & Ted Face the Music). (via Den of Geek)

Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins is now scheduled to open on Oct. 22, 2021.
NEW SERIES 'HOME SICK PILOTS' OUT THIS DECEMBER FROM IMAGE

Bestselling writer Dan Watters (Coffin Bound, Lucifer) reteams with fan favorite artist Caspar Wijngaard (Star Wars, Peter Cannon: Thunderbolt) for an ongoing series in Home Sick Pilots. The new ongoing horror comic will launch from Image Comics this December.

Watters and Wijngaard debuted at Image with their critically acclaimed, day-glo drenched miniseries Limbo back in 2015, and return to the publisher for a fresh, new, neon thriller.

In Home Sick Pilots, in the summer of 1994, a haunted house walks across California. Inside is Ami, lead singer of a high school punk band—who’s been missing for weeks. How did she get there, and what do these ghosts want? Expect three-chord songs and big bloody action that’s Power Rangers meets The Shining (yes, really).

“They say write what you know—well what I know is a teenage hellscape filled with pitfalls and secret etiquettes and beautiful broken people,” Watters said. “We’re about to send the Home Sick Pilots—the power trio of Ami, Buzz and Rip—out of that same hellscape into another, and hope that they survive.”

“We've all had at least one unforgettable summer as teens, late nights, parties, gigs, stolen booze, heartbreak and most importantly friendships. Except in this instance the teens are causing chaos in ectoplasmic power suits whilst haunted houses are fist fighting on the horizon,” added Wijngaard.

Home Sick Pilots #1 (Diamond Code OCT200017) will be available at comic book shops on Wednesday, December 9.

Home Sick Pilots #1 will also be available for purchase across many digital platforms, including Amazon Kindle, Apple Books, comiXology, and Google Play.

SAMUEL L. JACKSON TO PLAY NICK FURY IN NEW MARVEL DISNEY+ SERIES

Source: Variety | Categories: Marvel | Comments (0) | E-mail Article | Add a Comment

Variety reports that Samuel L. Jackson is set to reprise the role of Nick Fury in a new Marvel series currently in development at Disney+.

The exact plot details of the show are being kept under wraps, but multiple sources say Jackson is attached to star with Kyle Bradstreet attached to write and executive produce. Like all the other Marvel shows at Disney+, Marvel Studios will produce.

Reps for Jackson, Bradstreet, and Disney did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Jackson famously portrayed Fury, the monocular head of the clandestine government agency S.H.I.E.L.D, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe going back to the post-credits scene in the first Iron Man film in 2008. He has appeared in multiple films within the MCU since, most recently portraying Fury in Spider-Man: Far from Home, Avengers: Endgame, and Captain Marvel. He also played the character in two episodes of the ABC series Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

The last time fans saw Fury was in the post-credits scene of Far From Home, where he was onboard a Skrull ship somewhere in deep space.

Arif Zahir Cleveland Brown

Deadlinereports that Fox’s Family Guy has recast the role of Cleveland Brown with YouTube star Arif Zahir.

Mike Henry, who had voiced Brown since the show’s inception in 1999, announced in June that he was stepping down from the role. “I love this character, but persons of color should play characters of color,” Henry, who is white, said in his announcement about playing Cleveland, who is black.

Henry will remain a voice cast series regular on Family Guy, He will continue to play Bruce the Performance Artist, Herbert the Pedophile and a slew of ancillary roles and likely will help create new characters to voice.

Zahir will begin voicing Cleveland for Season 19 episodes which have just begun production. In Season 18, whose episodes had already been completed or were in advanced stages of animation when Henry exited the Cleveland role, will continue to feature Henry as the character. The season premieres Sunday night with the show’s 350th episode.
DISNEY AND PIXAR CRASHED BY EVEL KNIEVEL'S SON IN 'TOY STORY 4' LAWSUIT

Evel Knievel once said that he “would always rather be in the arena fighting than be a spectator.”

The legendary stunt rider’s son is clearly taking those words to heart with a new lawsuit against Walt Disney Pictures and Pixar over the Duke Caboom character introduced in last year’s Toy Story 4.

“Defendants have used in commerce, and continue to use in commerce, the likeness, reputation, and image of Evel Knievel in the film Toy Story 4 through Defendants’ depiction of Duke Caboom, and has exploited the same connection through marketing, promotion, advertising, and sales of Toy Story 4, and in connection with the manufacturing, distribution, marketing, advertising, promotion, and sales of the Duke Caboom action figure, all without the consent or approval of K&K,” claims the trademark infringement complaint filed on September 22 in federal court in Las Vegas, the site of many of Evel’s most death-defying exploits (READ IT HERE).

“As a direct and proximate result of Defendants’ unlawful appropriation of Evel Knievel’s rights of publicity, K&K has suffered, and will continue to suffer, monetary damages to its business, reputation, and goodwill,” the jury trial seeking action from the self-described Last Gladiator’s son and K and K Promotions boss Kelly Knievel goes on to say of the Keanu Reeves-voiced character in the movie.

“The claims are without merit and we intend to defend against them vigorously in court,” a spokesperson for the Pixar-owning House of Mouse said today. (via Deadline)

'MOON KNIGHT': MARVEL CASTING TWO MAIN ROLES FOR DISNEY+ SHOW

Moon Knight, Marlene, Frenchie

News of productions and casting for various Marvel Studios shows has been pouring out over the past few weeks. The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, WandaVision, and Loki are seemingly all rolling cameras again, and even Hawkeye has their ball rolling with casting calls for its villains and underlings. However, the one show that has seen the least amount of traction since being announced last year is Moon Knight.

But now, Marvel Studios is beginning to build their Moon Knight supporting cast around their Marc Spector (Moon Knight's alter ego... or one of them).

The Direct reports that Marvel Studios is casting for two main roles for their Moon Knight series.

While it's not yet confirmed who these two characters are, sources say that one character the studio is casting for is Jean-Paul DuChamp (aka "Frenchie"), the best friend of Marc Spector: 20-40 (years old), White male. A stereotypical good looking, overly enthusiastic, less intelligent than average but still lovable. Actor must be fluent in French.

The second role is for a character who is likely Marlene Alraune -- a love interest of Marc Spector: 20-35 (years old), all ethnicities, female. A manipulative operative in a secret organization, capable of going from cool and tough to warm and friendly in a heartbeat.

'THE SIMPSONS' VOICE CAST DIVERSIFIES FOR SEASON 32 DEBUT

Alex Désert and the character of Carl from The Simpsons

The Simpsons is following through on its pledge to have non-white actors voice characters of color on the show.

The Fox series will feature Alex Désert (The Flash, Better Things) voicing Carl Carlson, Homer's (Dan Castellaneta) nuclear plant co-worker, in Sunday's season premiere. Hank Azaria had played the part for nearly the show's entire run prior to that.

What's unclear is whether Désert will continue in the role. A statement from the show reads, "We are very pleased to welcome Alex Désert, playing Carl in the Simpsons season premiere." Reps for The Simpsons declined further comment.

The casting of Désert — at least for this episode — makes good on a June statement from Simpsons producers that "Moving forward, The Simpsons will no longer have white actors voice non-white characters."

The change came as the industry faced a reckoning over its record of inclusivity in the face of widespread social and racial justice protests over the summer. Animated series including Netflix's Big Mouth and Apple's Central Park also made moves to recast BIPOC characters with actors of color, and Family Guy regular Mike Henry said he would no longer voice the character of Cleveland Brown, who's Black, on the show.
