Cotton Review: The Best Books of the Week
Reviews of your favorite titles-and maybe some you've never checked out

By Mike Cotton

411#2 With a host of talent such as writers Brian K. Vaughan, Bruce Jones and Darko Macan and artist such as Leonardo Manco, Sean Phillips and Danijel Zezelj, 411 #2 offers fans an array of amazing stories that continues the publisher's peace over war stance and offer a perfect companion to the Heroes book Marvel did just after 9-11. The stories are sad at times, uplifting at other and heartfelt at their best.

HULK #54 Another amazing issue by writer Bruce Jones and artist Mike Deodato Jr. Fans have complained that Jones didn't use theHulk enough and focused too much on the "Fugitive" aspect of the Hulk series, but this issue proves them all wrong. From start to finish this issue delivers a powerful helping of action and slugfests.

TEEN TITANS/YOUNG JUSTICE: GRADUATION DAY With the planned relaunch of Titans and a new Nightwing and the Outsiders series planned, this book is the perfect jumping on point for longtime fans who might not be up to date on Titans and Young Justice lore. The two teams are drawn together by a corporation looking to sponsor both team, but the meeting quickly becomes a fight for both teams' lives.

GOTHAM CENTRAL #7 If you love crime fiction, pick up this book. Set in the Batman Universe, the current story by writer Greg Rucka and artist Michael Lark leaves fans panting for more as Detective Renee Montoya has to reconcile her personal and private life while closing cases at the same time.

CRIMINAL MACABRE #1 The superb 30 Days of Night team of writer Steve Niles and artist Ben Templesmith have done it again with Criminal Macabre. Following L.A. detective Cal McDonald, the series picks with the lead being interrogated by police. After that it's one bad move after another as Cal falls deeper and deeper into Hollywood's unearthly underbelly.
