The Cotton Review
What’s Hot This Week |
Ultimate
Spider-Man
The Ultimate Venom storyline finally begins in Ultimate Spider-Man
#33—but if you’re expecting a Venom like the regular
Marvel Universe’s, you’re in for a lot of surprises.
Bendis has totally re-imagined the entire idea of Venom and
how he relates to Peter Parker and Spider-Man. The last line
of the issue will have fans talking for weeks.
Ultimate X-Men
Ben and Ray Lai join writer Mark Millar on Ultimate X-Men
#26 and do a magnificent job of filling in while Adam Kubert
takes a well-deserved break. A semi-tie-in to the ongoing
Ultimate War mini-series, the issue focuses on Professor Xavier
and Magneto’s relationship over the last eight years.
Millar does a fantastic job of evolving the relationship between
Magneto and Xavier over 22-pages like few writers can. From
the best of friends to bitter enemies, this issue of Ultimate
X-Men tells fans everything they need to know about the two
most powerful mutants on the planet.
Captain
America
Shed a tear, fans. John Cassaday doesn’t pencil Captain
America #7—but you’d better wipe away the tears
or you’ll miss the inspired and brilliant debut of Trevor
Hairsine. Sure, Cassaday’s departure is a loss to any
book, but Hairsine’s (Cla$$war) art brings Captain America
into a whole new style. The issue also begins part one of
the new "The Extremist" arc, which sees Cap continue
his mistrust of S.H.I.E.L.D. head honcho Nick Fury as well
as beginning a search for the killing of an old friend.
