WAITING
FOR TOMMY
By
Richard Johnston
RICHARD
JOHNSTON: And now something that might get past the RACC,
ASA etc.
Going
against books might not be a bad idea. Against other media
in general.
SHAKESPEARE
COULDN'T DRAW TO SAVE HIS LIFE JK ROWLING DRAWS LIKE A GIRL
LARA CROFT'S BREASTS ARE BIGGER IN COMICS
"IT'S
BIGGER IN COMICS" maybe...
MATT
BRADY: It's Better in Comics?
RICHARD
JOHNSTON: A shot of someone making a call in a telephone
booth. A shot of someone absailing down a building. Someone
with three chopsticks between their fingers?
Probably
too pedestrian, not edgy enough.
NICK
BARRUCCI: Let's get this baby rolling.
Part
2 of my call to arms: Retailers Unite! is going up in an hour
(more or less).
Mark
- you need to do part 4 with me next week! (Please!) Anyone
else interested?
MARK
MILLAR: As long as it doesn't involve getting naked with
you, I'm in.
MATT
BRADY: Comics: it's better in here?
NICK
BARRUCCI: Sh*t, but that can help the industry! Yeah,
that's the ticket!
Matt
- please set this up for Tuesday if that's cool with you!
Comics!
Read, Enjoy, Explore! (and this would be great with a half
naked shot of Tomb Raider :)
MARK
MILLAR: 'BOOKS SUCK! READ COMICS!' would be a great poster.
What political parties over here do is make one big poster
and then get someone famous to stand in front of it (Spidey
in our case). All the newspapers and magazines then run this
pic with the simple message and story in their papers as a
news item for free. The poster itself costs almost nothing,
but the PR is endless-- especially if we come out against
books.
GET READY
FOR THE ART-FORM OF THE 21st CENTURY
RICHARD
JOHNSTON: Media play-wise, it's good. Message-wise, it's
a bit preachy.
COMICS
ROT YOUR SOUL or similar would actually get more coverage.
GOD HATES COMICS
NICK
BARRUCCI: Now that was funny!
Now all
- please remember - it was Marvel who created the Heroes Book
spearheaded by Joe and Bill. Marvel raised $1,000,000 for
911. DF helped by doing the signed books and raising over
$100,000.00 and giving to Marvel to donate as well.
If we
can do that, then as an industry we can do anything. Period!
So let's shut up, put up, and do it!
MARK
MILLAR: I've added NYC cable producer/ broadcaster John
Ross to this because he just posted something on my forum
about a big list of celebs and athletes he has who're into
comics. John, do your thing.
