FIRST LOOK AT AUBREY PLAZA IN AGATHA: DARKHOLD DIARIES11/25/23 @ 12:25 pm EST
Source: Twitter | Comments (0) | E-mail Article | Add a CommentMarvel Studios has released the official Blu-ray for
Wandavision and included in the extras was a featurette for the upcoming
Agatha: Darkhold Diaries. The show, which is planned for an October 2024 release, is basically a spinoff of
Wandavision following
Kathryn Hahn’s character of Agatha Harkness after Wanda left her as Agnes the nosy neighbor back in Westview, New Jersey. One of the things that the featurette gives us is a glimpse at a new character, Rio Vidal, who is being played by
Aubrey Plaza. Vidal is rumored to be part of a coven of witches and will be the main antagonist going up against Agatha in the series. Plaza herself has called Vidal a really pivotal role hinting that the character will likely be a big part of the series. The image was posted to X (formerly Twitter) by user

PHILIPPE LABAUNE GALLERY TO PRESENT CAREER-SPANNING EXHIBITION OF WILL EISNER ART02/11/25 @ 1:23 pm EST

This month the renowned Philippe Labaune Gallery in New York City will host a career-spanning exhibition of legendary cartoonist Will Eisner’s artwork, featuring groundbreaking work from every stage of the artist’s career from 1941 to 2002. Organized in collaboration with Denis Kitchen and the Eisner estate, the exhibition honors Will Eisner’s artistic vision and significant contributions to the medium, offering an opportunity to experience firsthand the creativity and innovation behind his iconic work. In addition to war-time drawings, pages from Eisner’s beloved The Spirit, and New York The Big City comic strips, the exhibit will feature an almost complete sequential presentation of A Contract With God: The Super.
Known as the father of the graphic novel, Will Eisner’s comic career began when his cartoons were featured in 1936’s Wow Magazine. From there, the pioneering artist and writer went on to create the fan-favorite hero The Spirit and help shape the comic book medium as we know it today. A Contract with God is considered to be the first modern graphic novel and remains the holy grail of sequential art. Written a few years after losing his young daughter to leukemia, A Contract with God is Eisner’s most personal work composed of 4 stories set in a Tenement in the Bronx. “The Super” is a dark and touching exploration of the tensions between the tenants and their superintendent that reminds readers that nothing is as simple as it seems. Eisner’s passion for the comic form and profound empathy are visible on every page.
“Eisner believed that the power of comics lies in their ability to communicate complex ideas through both words and images,” said Philippe Labaune. “Eisner’s innovations were not confined to his own craft; he was also a teacher and advocate for the comic book medium as a serious art form. His educational efforts helped bridge the gap between comic books and fine art, making him a central figure in the movement to elevate comics as legitimate literary endeavors.”
The Philippe Labaune gallery is located at 534 West 24th Street in New York and is open from Thursday through Saturday, from 10am to 6pm. The roots of Philippe Labaune Gallery have a strong European influence: among the artists are esteemed creators such as Lorenzo Mattotti, Nicolas de Crécy, Guido Crepax, Dave Mckean or François Schuiten. In recent years, American artists such as Landis Blair, Rebecca Leveille Guay, Frank Miller, and Peter de Sève have helped Philippe Labaune Gallery to foster a community of overlapping art collectors and comic fans from all over the world.
The Will Eisner Exhibit will be open to the public from Thursday, February 13, to Saturday, March 8. There will be an opening reception on February 13 from 6 PM to 9 PM.

DAISY RIDLEY PROVIDES STAR WARS UPDATE (AND PROMISES THE STORY IS GOOD)02/10/25 @ 1:02 pm EST
Source: ComicBook | Categories: Star Wars | Comments (0) | E-mail Article | Add a Comment
The story of Rey is going to continue in a new Star Wars movie, tentatively titled
Star Wars: New Jedi Order. For now, that’s all is known about the film, other than the fact that Daisy Ridley will return to star and that it’s being directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy. After a couple of different writers have had their names attached to the project,
Ocean’s Twelve scribe George Nolfi is putting the screenplay together, and Ridley feels like the whole thing is moving in the right direction.
“I have not read the latest script, but I know what’s happening, and I know the story, and I think what feels really good is that George is a phenomenal writer,” Ridley told ComicBook.com. “I think we’re making sure that this story is the best way, this script is the best way to tell the story, and I think it will be worthwhile. for everyone watching it, and I am very excited, yeah.”
New Jedi Order is going to follow Rey’s journey after the events of
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, but what the galaxy looks like in that time period we have no idea. This will basically be uncharted territory for the Star Wars franchise.

WHEN MARVEL TEAMED WITH THE NFL02/09/25 @ 1:40 pm EST
Source: Marvel.com | Comments (0) | E-mail Article | Add a CommentBeing that today is the big game in the NFL, but we talk about comics here. I short reminder of when comics and football tried to work together and how it didn’t go so well. Let’s talk about the
NFL SuperPro comic. It was a short-lived series published by Marvel Comics in collaboration with the NFL from 1991 to 1992 originally written by
Fabian Nicieza and drawn by
Jose Delbo. The main character, Phil Grayfield, is an ex-NFL player who gains superpowers after a freak accident involving a chemical fire. He then dons a near-indestructible football uniform and becomes the superhero SuperPro. The comic aimed to address topical issues like drug abuse, but it wasn't well received and is often considered one of the worst comics in Marvel's history. It only lasted for 12 issues and a special edition. The sixth issue is probably the most famous, or rather infamous, as it depicted sacred Native American icons in a violent misrepresentation causing Hopi councilmen to demand a recall of the issue which Marvel agreed to but many remained in the market. Hard to believe that was only three decades ago. Enjoy the game!
JAMES GUNN ANSWERS HAWKGIRL'S WINGS QUESTION02/09/25 @ 1:20 pm EST
Source: Threads | Comments (0) | E-mail Article | Add a CommentOne of the most confusing things in comics is the history of Hawkman and Hawkgirl. The characters have been changed so much it’s hard to keep track of whether they are aliens or ancient Egyptians. With
Isabel Merced about to play Kendra Saunders, a modern version of Hawkgirl, in the upcoming
Superman movie a fan asked
James Gunn if Hawkgirl’s wings were going to be organic or mechanical in the new movie. His answer was simply, “Organic”. And while that answered the specific question it opened up a pandora’s box of questions for fans as most iterations of Hawkgirl all have wings that are made of Nth metal and not organic. The Golden Age version, Shiera Sanders Hall, had wings that were part of an Nth metal artifact. The Silver Age version, Shayera Hol, had wings that were part of her uniform and made of Nth metal. And more modern versions like Kendra Saunders have wings made of Nth metal. Would being made of Nth metal mean ‘organic’ to Gunn? Are they re-working the character’s history once again? We’ll have to wait until June to find out.
WHAT HAPPENED TO CAPTAIN AMERICA'S MASK?02/08/25 @ 1:18 pm EST
Source: TV Line | Comments (0) | E-mail Article | Add a CommentIf you’re wondering why the suit in
Captain America: Brave New World doesn’t look the same as the one Sam Wilson was wearing at the end of
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier… you can blame star
Anthony Mackie on that one. While costume design changes between films is pretty normal, many felt with the new Cap suit only appearing at the end of the television series, it would at least be around for a while in the film, but Mackie requested the change because the mask was extremely difficult to work in. While speaking to ICN, the veteran MCU actor said, “I told them that I was never wearing that s**t again. That was hard… with the heat, the sweat, the fogged-up glasses. It was impossible. It was my worst nightmare.” There were other issues with the mask/goggle set up previously revealed in the making of the series saying that they had to CG some of the scenes because the mask wouldn’t stay tight against his face, causing parts to bow out around his cheeks and jawline. Look for the new, maskless Captain America in theaters on February 14th.
FARRELL AND MILIOTI SCORE AT CRITICS CHOICE AWARDS02/08/25 @ 12:56 pm EST
Source: Deadline | Comments (0) | E-mail Article | Add a CommentThere was a time that comic book movies and shows were the dirty secrets of the film industry and no one ever mentioned them at awards shows, but times have changed. Last night at the Critic Choice Awards, host
Chelsea Handler took shots at a lot of taboo topics in her opening monologue, and it included a joke related to the recent HBO series The Penguin, “Colin spent four hours transforming into the Penguin. Now we know how long it takes to make
Colin Farrell unf***able. Still, I would hit those flippers.” And that wasn’t the only time Farrell and
the Penguin were mention during the broadcast as he would take home the award for Best Actor in a Limited Series or Movie Made for Television and his co-star
Christin Milioti won the Best Actress award for the same category. But the DC universe wasn’t the only one taking home awards, over at Marvel they picked up the Best Animated Series award for
X-Men ’97. And
Deadpool & Wolverine tied with A Real Pain for the Best Comedy. A pretty good night for comic book properties overall.
