DUNGEONS & DRAGONS: INFERNAL TIDES COMIC BOOK HEATS UP IDW PUBLISHING IN NOVEMBER05/17/19 @ 7:52 pm EST
reports that Swamp Thing
producers Warner Bros. Television have reduced the order for the scripted drama series based on the beloved comics created by Len Wein and Bernie Wrightson. Sources tell the site that the original 13-episode order for the drama has been cut to 10 after experienced creative differences with its home at Warners-backed streaming platform DC Universe. The series will stick with its planned May 31 premiere date.
Warners and DC Universe declined comment.
The news of the episode reduction happens to come as DC Universe parent company WarnerMedia is plotting a larger direct-to-consumer streaming platform. The OTT platform, expected to launch in the fourth quarter of 2019, will feature scripted originals as well as content from corporate siblings HBO, Turner's TBS and TNT, among others. The platform will be overseen by former NBC Entertainment president Bob Greenblatt and Turner's Kevin Reilly as WarnerMedia CEO John Stankey makes the streaming platform a top goal for the company.
WarnerMedia has yet to reveal its larger plans for its streaming platform, which will compete with fellow upstarts Disney+ (launching Nov. 12) and Apple (in the fall) as well as Comcast (2020). Disney+ unveiled its streaming plans last week during a nearly four-hour presentation to investors that impressed both Hollywood and Wall Street. Their platform will feature hubs for Marvel, Star Wars, Disney and Lucasfilm (Star Wars
) content on its home screen. That presentation set a very high bar for WarnerMedia, which considers DC Comics among its crown jewels.

Plot details for Rangers
are being squirreled away, but it will not be an origin story nor detective agency story. Rather, the take is being described as being meta, something self-referential and cool. Dan Gregor and Doug Mand wrote the script.

IDW Publishing is proud to announce the August debut ofMountainhead, a five-issue comic book miniseries from writer John Lees (Sink) and artist Ryan Lee(Archer & Armstrong), featuring colors from Doug Garbark and letters from Shawn Lee.STEPHEN KING'S 'THE EYES OF THE DRAGON' IN WORKS AT HULU AND FOX 21: YA ANSWER TO 'GAME OF THRONES?'05/17/19 @ 7:38 pm EST
In Mountainhead, Abraham Stubbs and his father Noah roam America in a nomadic existence, convinced that they are being pursued by sinister government forces. Living off the grid, burgling houses to survive, they are unwittingly on a collision course… with the bloodied survivor of a climbing expedition gone horribly wrong. What transpires next is a psychological thriller guaranteed to quicken the pulse! “Don’t slow down. Don’t get comfortable. Don’t think you’re safe. Be ready to run.”
"Mountainhead is a story that means a lot to me, one anchored in character and human drama, but which will also push the envelope with suspense and dread in unorthodox, surprising ways. Abraham Stubbs is a character who has lived in my head for some time, a kid raised from infancy to be a survivor but who could never have anticipated the challenges he's faced with here," says John Lees.
“Visceral, suspenseful, unnerving, and at times, absolutely bonkers – Mountainhead has all the trademarks of quality horror. There's also a pedigree of measured story-craft amidst the havoc and darkness that John brings to this yarn,” says Ryan Lee. “I want to mirror his original vision with my best work, to give readers a lasting story where the craft and passion we put into it comes through in each and every moment.”
“What really grabbed me about this series, apart from its interesting setting and premise, is how it gets into the head of our protagonist as he is put into an impossible situation. Add in some unique horror elements, and Ryan Lee’s vivid art, and this makes for a riveting, engaging read," says editor Bobby Curnow.
Mountainhead joins IDW Publishing’s 2019 roster of celebrated creator-owned titles, whose atmospheric visuals and evocative storytelling that have been met with critical acclaim and swift sales – includingAmber Blake, Ghost Tree, and Road of Bones, each of which have required additional printings to meet fan and retailer demand.

Dynamite is making a giant splash in July 2019 with a new Vampirella series by top tier creators like Christopher Priest, as well as reprints and collections of highly sought after recent and classic material, and lots of special items for fans. But in addition to celebrating the 50 years of Vampi, Dynamite looks to the future of Vampirella comics with a blank comic for aspiring creators!
Dynamite is offering the Vampirella Blank Comic Book. This standard length comic book sports sketch-quality blank interior pages and a cover with just logo treatment. Dynamite is embracing the extraordinary talents of their fanbase and the comics community to experiment and produce their own Vampi stories.
People can take on the project solo or collaborate with friends to write, draw, ink, color and letter a full length story. Or split up the pages for an anthology in the vein of the original magazine. Another challenge would be to follow the famous 24-hour comic challenge. An artist drawing in this book could be the next José González, Amanda Conner, Mike Mayhew or Ergün Gündüz, finding themselves professionally drawing the Daughter of Drakulon someday. Or writing, in the footsteps of Archie Goodwin, Kurt Busiek, Mark Millar or Christopher Priest.
"This IS the year of Vampirella! It's her 50th Anniversary, and as we were looking at exciting new projects to do, we thought to join the current trend of creating near completely blank books for fans to be creative and write and draw their own adventures!" said Nick Barrucci, Dynamite CEO and Publisher. "Whether fans will write and draw comics to practice their craft, or just for the fun of it, this is a great book to try and fulfill your artistic aspirations."
The Vampirella Blank Comic Book will be solicited in Diamond Comic Distributors’ May 2019 Previews catalog, the premier source of merchandise for the comic book specialty market, and slated for release in July 2019. Comic book fans are encouraged to preorder copies with their local comic book retailers.
