The Family Dynamic issue #1 Written by J. Torres Reviewed by Beth Delaney J. Torres and DC Comics bring to life The Family Dynamic. This is a brand new series great for all ages. Set in Storm City, Canada, readers get a detailed introduction to who this new family is and a glimpse at the villains and other heroes of the city. For fans of Marvel’s Fantastic Four and Power Pack or Disney’s W.I.T.C.H., this new series will tickle your senses and undoubtedly get you hooked on a new comic. The entire organization of the family is revealed while the character Dwayne Day interviews the last surviving member of the original group known as Captain Cyclone. It’s also revealed that journalist-by-day Dwayne is also the caped superhero known as Defender from a neighboring city. Captain Cyclone explains the breakdown of the original team: his wife Hydro Girl, his brother Hothead, and his brother-in-law Earthman. All members except for Captain Cyclone were killed by their arch nemesis Dark Wraith. As you can tell by their names, each member possessed a power relating to nature’s elements which came to them through power rings. Captain Cyclone and Hydro Girl had a son who is now the new leader of the Family Dynamic called Pyralis or his secret identity Sloan Spencer, Army Recruiter. Sloan’s wife Gina is Sirocco and their two sons Troylus and Terran make up the rest of the team. Sloan’s sister Maeve and her daughter Makenzie play roles in the superhero lifestyle as well but it’s not yet revealed. There are two masked vigilantes whose secret identities are unknown so it’s quite possible that in issue #2, readers will see if Blackbird and Little Wing are actually Maeve and Makenzie. Tim Levins and the rest of his artistic team bring a colorful collection of pages to you. So if you haven’t been in a comic shop in a long time because you’re all grown up with kids and think there’s no room for comics in your life, now you have a perfect excuse to get back to after school shopping trips. It’ll get your kids reading and while you’re there you can get caught up on something you love like Green Lantern. Rating: 10/10 Highlights: - It’s rare to find a kids comic that can also appeal to adults and teens. The characters making up the Family Dynamic span through different generations which everyone can find relatable. - Based in Canada, it’s about time comic fans of the north have more than Alpha Flight to call their own. - The bottom line is power rings are just plain cool.
