CLASSIC PUPPET MASTER HORROR FRANCHISE LICENSE JOINS DYNAMITE

Source: Dynamite | Categories: Dynamite | Comments (0) | E-mail Article | Add a Comment

Dynamite Entertainment is excited to announce a new licensing partnership with Full Moon Features, to produce collectibles and other projects featuring their legendary Puppet Master series of films, in celebration of the franchise's 35th anniversary.

With plans to unleash an exciting set of trading cards celebrating the franchise's history across its dozen-plus film entries, fans can stay tuned for further information on this project and the possibility of others in this collaboration.

"Puppet Master is one of the most unique and classic franchises in horror," said Nick Barruccci, Dynamite CEO and Publisher. "We're excited to connect with the diehard fans of the films and deliver something truly special for their collections." "The Puppet Master series might just be the most important franchise in our vast Full Moon film universe," said Charles Band, CEO and Founder of Full Moon. "So, it is extremely important to us that our brand be forever in good hands. The Dynamite team have surpassed all of our expectations, creating a collection of cards that exemplify the magic, mystery and visual grandeur of Puppet Master and the iconic characters within. We couldn't be more pleased with this partnership."

The Puppet Master series kicked off in 1989 with its eponymous first entry. Anthropomorphic puppets animated by an ancient Egyptian spell wreak havoc, equipped with dangerous devices and weapons and out to threaten people, or even to fight against other puppets. The film is considered one of the key cult hits of the home video and rental era of horror. Its massive success and following led to 10 sequels, a reboot, spinoffs, and crossovers.

More details on the first project in this team-up between two purveyors of classic horror stories will come soon!

Longtime X-Men producer Simon Kinberg is beaming up to a new franchise. He is in talks to produce a new Star Trek feature for Paramount Pictures, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed. If all goes well, the door would open to him taking active creative roles on the rest of the storied franchise’s film side. Alex Kurtzman and Akiva Goldsman are the main creative producers on Star Trek‘s television side. The project Kinberg would step into is already in very active development. Toby Haynes, who directed episodes of the Star Wars series Andor, is on board to direct the new feature, with Seth Grahame-Smith writing the script. The project is said to be set decades before the events of the 2009 movie that was directed by J.J. Abrams, likely around modern times. It is said to involve the creation of the Starfleet and humankind’s first contact with alien life. Abrams remains involved with the new project as a producer. There is no release date for the feature, but the studio has signaled that it would like a 2025 opening.

GREG CAPULLO AND JONATHAN HICKMAN PRESENT 'WOLVERINE: REVENGE'
05/21/24 @ 1:07 pm EST
Source: Marvel | Categories: Wolverine | Comments (0) | E-mail Article | Add a Comment

Last year, industry legend Greg Capullo made his celebrated return to Marvel Comics, and now, after a host of incredible cover work, he’s back to gracing the Marvel Universe with his iconic interior artwork! Capullo will team up with visionary writer Jonathan Hickman this August in an all-new prestige limited series: WOLVERINE: REVENGE! WOLVERINE: REVENGE will be five issues of pure, unadulterated Wolverine action just in the time for the iconic character’s 50th anniversary. If that’s not enough, WOLVERINE: REVENGE will also be available as special RED BAND EDITIONS. Like the current Blood Hunt event series, WOLVERINE: REVENGE – RED BAND EDITION will be polybagged for the protection of innocent eyes, and include exclusive pages and elevated violence! Capullo and Hickman pit Wolverine against a cadre of foes who will turn his world upside down, including Sabretooth, Omega Red, Deadpool, and more. He’s been beaten! He’s been bloodied! And Logan only has one thought on his mind: REVENGE! “I’ve finally returned home to Marvel, and I’m ready to raise some Hell. And, who better to do that with than the Hitman Hickman?” Capullo said. “To celebrate, Marvel has removed the fences and let us off our leash so that we can bring the most vicious and punishing Wolverine story possible to the fans this summer. I hope they’re prepared.” “Well, obviously it’s such a privilege to get to work with a legend like Greg,” Hickman added. “When we first talked about the project, our number one concern was taking the readers on a high-octane, no-hold-barred Wolverine story that was a proper celebration of both the character and Greg returning to Marvel. And like he said, the bosses cut us loose and the result is an absolutely wild book. Honestly can’t wait for everyone to get to check it out." Check out Capullo’s cover, and don’t miss this prestige miniseries, set to become one of the defining—and most brutal—tales in Wolverine’s storied legend when it hits stands in August!

STEPHANIE PHILLIPS AND GORAN SUDžUKA TEAM UP FOR 'RED BEFORE BLACK'
05/20/24 @ 11:27 pm EST
Source: BOOM! Studios | Categories: MIsc | Comments (0) | E-mail Article | Add a Comment

RED BEFORE BLACK is a violent, hyper kinetic, women-led Florida crime thriller in the tradition of 2000s-era Vertigo from Grim’s superstar writer Stephanie Phillips, the acclaimed and beloved artist Goran Sudžuka (Hellblazer, Y: The Last Man), colorist Ive Svorcina (Thor: God of Thunder, Secret Wars), and letterer Tom Napolitano (Grim, Justice League). Coming to BOOM! Studios in August 2024. A disgraced army veteran, Val, arrives in everyone’s favorite state: Florida. Her goal? Hunt down an infamous drug runner named Leo. But soon she finds that the pair have an unexpected enemy in common, turning the time-honored game of cat and mouse into something far more sinister! “For me, Florida is like that relative that you make fun of but become defensive about the minute you hear someone else making fun of them. I grew up there…I’ve been chased by water moccasins, had to call someone about alligator removals, thrown more than one hurricane party, and dressed like a pirate for the annual invasion of Tampa’s bay,” said acclaimed writer Stephanie Phillips. “There is truly no better place I could think of to set Red Before Black–a weird crime story with an even weirder setting. Val and Leo might be our main characters, but Florida is ever present and Goran truly draws the s*** outta this curious place that will forever feel like home for me, no matter where I live.” RED BEFORE BLACK #1 features main cover art by Goran Sudžuka with Ive Svorcina and variants by Dave Johnson (100 Bullets), DANI (Catwoman), Cliff Chiang (Paper Girls), and Toni Fejzula (Rumble). RED BEFORE BLACK is the newest release from BOOM! Studios’ eponymous imprint, home to critically acclaimed original series, including BRZRKR by Keanu Reeves, Matt Kindt, and Ron Garney; Something is Killing the Children by James Tynion IV and Werther Dell’Edera; Grim by Stephanie Phillips and Flaviano; Stuff of Nightmares by R.L. Stine and A.L. Kaplan; Damn Them All by Simon Spurrier and Charlie Adlard; Once Upon a Time at the End of the World by Jason Aaron, Alexandre Tefenkgi, Leila del Duca, and Nick Dragotta; Know Your Station by Sarah Gailey and Liana Kangas; A Vicious Circle by Mattson Tomlin and Lee Bermejo; The Neighbors by Jude Ellison S. Doyle and Letizia Cadonici; Ghostlore by Cullen Bunn and Leomacs; Sirens of the City by Joanne Starer and Khary Randolph; Coda by Simon Spurrier and Matías Bergara; Rare Flavours by Ram V and Filipe Andrade; Underheist by David and Maria Lapham; and Animal Pound by Tom King and Peter Gross. The imprint also publishes popular licensed properties, including Dune: House Corrino from Brian Herbert, Kevin J. Anderson, and Simone Ragazzoni; Mighty Morphin Power Rangers by Melissa Flores and Simona Di Gianfelice; and The Expanse: Dragon Tooth by Andy Diggle, Rubine, and Francesco Pisa. RED BEFORE BLACK #1 will be available in comic shops August 7, 2024. It is available for pre-order at your local comic shop. Digital copies can be purchased from content providers, including Kindle, iBooks, and Google Play.

'THE POWERPUFF GIRLS' COMIC GETS TWO EXCITING UPDATES
05/20/24 @ 11:07 pm EST
Source: Dynamite | Categories: Powerpuff Girls | Comments (0) | E-mail Article | Add a Comment
In time for Cartoon Network's The Powerpuff Girls' 25th anniversary, Dynamite and Warner Bros. Discovery Global Consumer Products have two key updates for The Powerpuff Girls fans as the hotly anticipated comic book series approaches its debut, spotlighting two incredible artistic features.

Some eagle-eyed fans may have been able to guess this first bit of news. Karen Darboe's jaw-dropping cover for the first issue featured just Bubbles, whereas each other cover for the debut has the complete iconic trio. Dynamite can confirm that not only are Karen's next two covers for the second and third issues portraying Blossom and Buttercup, but that the set are in fact a single connecting piece for fans to collect and complete for their collections! In addition to the titular trio, the covers also spotlight three of the most iconic villains in the franchise with HIM, Mojo Jojo, and Sedusa.

In addition to her beautiful covers, fans can look forward to even more of Darboe's artwork in the series thanks to the other big update. Kelly Thompson's stories on the series will feature a new unique artist on each and every issue. Darboe herself tags in for the second one, following Paulina Ganucheau kicking off the party. Then Miriana Puglia finishes off the initial salvo for issue #3's interior artwork.

"This project has to be one of my all-time favorites I've taken part in!," said artist Karen S. Darboe. "Being usually oriented to a more realistic style of drawing made this project quite challenging since I was faced with something on the total opposite of the spectrum. I really wanted to honor this fun series I grew up with which, on the top of everything, brought me closer to my two longest standing friends I used to play with! In fact, as soon as the first cover was revealed, I immediately sent it to them remembering the good old days when we wanted to be super heroines like Blossom, Bubbles and Buttercup!"

Darboe's covers for the second and third issue, alongside her and Puglia's story artwork, will be joined by more outstanding covers by Ganucheau, Leonardo Romero, and Nicoletta Baldari.

POWERPUFF GIRLS #2 will be solicited in Diamond Comic Distributors’ June 2024 Previews catalog, the premier source of merchandise for the comic book specialty market, and slated for release in August 2024. Comic book fans are encouraged to preorder copies of the book with their local comic book retailers. It will also be available for individual customer purchase through digital platforms courtesy of Comixology, Kindle, iBooks, Google Play, Dynamite Digital, ComicsPlus, and more!
JONNY QUEST'S ADVENTURES CONTINUE IN ONGOING SERIES BY JOE CASEY
05/20/24 @ 1:39 pm EST
Source: Dynamite | Categories: Dynamite | Comments (0) | E-mail Article | Add a Comment

Fans are invited to join the adventuring party of Jonny Quest and crew this August alongside fan-favorite writer Joe Casey and brilliant artist Sebastián Piriz. The tale celebrates the six incredible decades of Jonny Quest fandom and follows the issue #0 prelude story with approximately 80,000 copies released for Free Comic Book Day this May.

Climb aboard the Sea Quest and get ready to embark on a journey like no other. Legendary boy explorer Jonny Quest is back in action, and joined by the whole beloved cast originally created for the Hanna-Barbera animation line by comic book legend Doug Wildey.

Jonny's father, Dr. Benton Quest, is a genius scientist often leading the way. “Race” Bannon is a special agent tasked with protecting Jonny and teaching him a range of skills. Hadji is the orphaned adopted son of Dr. Quest, and Jonny’s brother. Last, but certainly not least, Jonny’s dog Bandit is always along for the ride.

This batch of characters are all back in four color pages, and they'll be joined by even more unexpected faces as writer Joe Casey hews close to the original spirit of the series, while using a modern storytelling approach in his signature style. This comic series picks up where the original animated series left off in 1964, but fans will be surprised as things quickly take a turn for the uncanny! Now Dynamite and Warner Bros. Discovery Global Consumer Products kick off a new era for the franchise!

"The hope is that we’re maintaining the bouncy spirit of the original TV show," said Casey. "From one episode to the next, Jonny Quest always had a particular dramatic rhythm that was completely unique. We want our book to have that same kind of vibe. Plus, the fact that Benton and Jonny are father and son automatically makes this a generational story. We’re taking that angle and really running with it, taking that specific generational aspect to the extreme in ways that, we think, deepen the characters and give them the proper amount of gravitas that we demand from our beloved genre fiction."

Joe Casey is a certified legend with plenty of experience bringing comics inspired stories to animation and vice versa. As part of the creative group Man of Action, he's played a role in creating iconic franchises like Ben 10 and Generator Rex. In comics, Casey has tackled many of the industry's top titles, while always finding time for his own creations too. He's written for titles including Uncanny X-Men, Adventures of Superman, Incredible Hulk, Cable, WildC.A.T.s, G.I. Joe, as well as Gødland, All-America Comix, and others.

Casey's major co-star on the title is rising artist Sebastián Piriz (We Ride Titans, Deadweights). His fantastic, fluid artwork has been wowing plugged in fans for a while with his fan art, commissions, and process shared on social media. Dynamite and the whole team are excited about Quest being perhaps his biggest showcase yet for fans to enjoy his perfectly matched style.

The title is enhanced by a roster of fully frameable covers by industry luminaries including Chad Hardin (Harley Quinn), Jae Lee, Tom Raney, Bob Layton, and Richard Pace. More surprises may be around the corner, as Dynamite invites some of the most fun names in comics to tackle this icon.

JONNY QUEST #1 will be solicited in Diamond Comic Distributors’ June 2024 Previews catalog, the premier source of merchandise for the comic book specialty market, and slated for release in August 2024. Comic book fans are encouraged to preorder copies of the book with their local comic book retailers. It will also be available for individual customer purchase through digital platforms courtesy of Comixology, Kindle, iBooks, Google Play, Dynamite Digital, ComicsPlus, and more!
