DF INTERVIEW: NATALIE LASPINA (SWEET BURDEN)
SEND THIS TO A FRIEND!

By: Brian Hofacker

Natalie Laspina is a talented actress who has appeared on popular TV series such as Law And Order: SVU, Law And Order: CI, Rescue Me, Damages and a pilot for Comedy Central. Additionally, Natalie has landed lead roles in many independent films, including The Black Facade, Gate Of Fallen, Angels, Synaptic Twitch, Bitter Sweet, Second Chance and Office Beast.

Of course, comic book fans know Natalie from her exciting role as the super-heroine called Sweet Burden in the super hero series Vixens of Virtue Vixens of Vice from 2121 Productions, which can be checked out at vixensofvirtuevixensofvice.com.

Dynamic Forces’ Brian Hofacker caught up with Natalie who was super enough to take a few minutes away from casting calls and saving the world in order to answer a few questions about her career and life as a super-heroine.

BH: First of all, congratulations on everything you’ve done so far. Your acting career appears to be heading in a very successful direction and at an incredible pace.

Now… Along with lead parts in a few independent films, you've also made quite a few television appearances on hit shows such as Damages, Rescue Me and Law and Order! How did you land these parts?

NL: I was able to work on these shows because I submitted for roles I felt I was a match for and got called. It was a very fun experience!

BH: Do you have any "on set" or celebrity stories that you can share?

NL: When I worked on Law and Order I got to work alongside Chris Noth and Peter Bogdanovich, which was a lot of fun. Peter was super nice. I was cast as one of the 'Playmates' on the Anna Nicole episode. It was very cold out for the shoot that day, and we were in lingerie. He kept coming over to warm me up and offer me his robe which was so sweet! (He was playing the Hugh Hefner character.)

BH: Did you get tired of hearing that "bonk bonk" sound all the time while on set of Law and Order?

NL: When you’re shooting you don't actually hear that "bonk bonk" sound.

That's something that’s added in later.

BH: Of course, comic book fans are familiar with you from your part in Vixens of Virtue Vixens of Vice. How did you land the role of Sweet Burden?

NL: I submitted to a casting for the role and got called for the audition. The audition was unlike any I had ever been on, but it was without a doubt a lot of fun. When I got the call from Rob that I had landed Sweet Burden I was super excited because I loved the story and couldn't wait to bring her to life.

BH: Vixens of Virtue Vixens of Vice is the story of six sisters, half super heroes and half villains. In the scheme of all this, who exactly is Sweet Burden?

NL: Sweet Burden is the eldest and toughest of her sisters. She is a scientist and has super natural powers of gravity. Her theme when she is Sweet Burden is all blue which she loves transforming into because the color gives her a mental sense of strength and power. She can flow as calmly as water and move as quick as the wind. She's tough, but that’s because she is the oldest and looks out for her little sisters

Sweet Burden only wants the best for them and since her father left the picture, she has taken the role and wants to protect them both however she can.

BH: Vixens of Virtue Vixens of Vice is certainly a stretch from Rescue Me and Law and Order. What was your initial reaction to the concept of Vixens and the role of Sweet Burden?

NL: I loved it. I always dreamed about playing a superhero type character with powers but never knew if I would have the opportunity. When Vixens fell in my lap, I was super stoked and couldn't wait to start shooting.

BH: What do you feel you were able to bring to the character of Sweet Burden? Did you model the character after any particular super hero?

NL: I modeled her after myself in a sense. I feel I was able to bring my own sense of what I imagined her to be like when I was cast as the role. She's tough, and I like that about her, but she’s also sweet and caring.

BH: Did you have any interest in comic books or super heroes prior to your work on Vixens?

NL: I was always a fan of Batman, and I loved Catwoman.

BH: Do you find yourself with more interest in super heroes and comic bookssince taking the role?

NL: Yes, I feel I developed more of an interest to superheroes after working on Vixens. It’s so much fun!

BH: In your opinion, which is the "must see" episode of Vixens of Virtue Vixens of Vice?

NL: I love the first and last episodes the best. The acting, writing, effects, fight scenes… it all came together in those episodes, and I would absolutely recommend watching them if you haven't!

BH: And which was your favorite episode to work on?

NL: I would have to go with the “Sandcastles” episode. It was such a gorgeous day, and we were all just laying out and having fun. And the volleyball match was a blast!

BH: The cast of Vixens recently made an appearance at the Big Apple Con in New York. What did you think of the convention scene?

NL: It was interesting for me. I had never been around that scene, nor did I know what to expect, so it was definitely a trip, to say the least. I would do it again in a heartbeat!

BH: Has Sweet Burden gained a lot of fans?

NL: Sweet Burden has some fans out there, I'm sure!!

BH: The last episode of Vixens of Virtue Vixens of Vice ended on a quite a cliffhanger. What's in store for Sweet Burden next season?

NL: Lots of fun! You’re just going to have to wait and see!

BH: As for your independent films, are there any that you think the comic book audience would like?

NL: I recently wrapped a comedy film called ‘The Black Façade’.  It’s hitting the Tribeca Film Festival this spring. I would definitely recommend checking it out! If you’re interested in seeing a trailer or photos from the shoot check out this link: The Black Façade

BH: I'm sure there are many aspiring actors that would love to have a resume matching yours. Do you have any advice for someone thinking about an acting career?

NL: Just keep following your dreams and never give up! I had a blank resume at one time, but I knew acting was my passion and I would never be happy doing anything else. So, my best advice would be to follow your dreams and go after it.

BH: And finally, what's next in the career of Natalie LaSpina?

NL: I'm currently wrapping on a dramatic feature and preparing for the female lead in a comedic feature that’s set to shoot in the spring. Both films are predicted to hit theaters, so look out!
