POWERHOUSE CREATIVE TEAM BRUBAKER & PHILLIPS BRING FANS THEIR FIRST ORIGINAL GRAPHIC NOVEL IN MY HEROES HAVE ALWAYS BEEN JUNKIES
06/19/18 @ 2:26 pm EST
Source: Image | Categories: Image | Comments (0) | E-mail Article | Add a Comment

MY HEROES HAVE ALWAYS BEEN JUNKIES, the first original graphic novel from the award-winning and bestselling team Ed Brubaker (writer on HBO’s Westworld, co-creator of Too Old to Die Young with Nicolas Winding Refn for Amazon Studios) and Sean Phillips—the creative team behind CRIMINAL, KILL OR BE KILLED, THE FADE OUT and FATALE—will hit stores this October.

"Sean and I have been talking about doing our version of a romance comic for a long time, so naturally it ended up being a crime story, too. But it's one that allows me to mine some of my own pop culture obsessions and delve back into my teen years and the kind of trouble you can only get into when you're young," said Brubaker. "And coming off a long project like Kill Or Be Killed, it just felt like this was the perfect time for us to experiment with format and finally do an original graphic novel. We're both very excited to be creating something that's designed to be seen first in hardback. That's a new one for us, in nearly 20 years of working together."

Ever since the death of her junkie mother, Ellie has been obsessed with famous drug addicts. Those tragic artistic souls drawn to needles and pills have been her angels and idols. But when Ellie lands in an upscale rehab clinic where nothing is what it appears to be... she'll find another more dangerous romance, and find out how easily drugs and murder go hand in hand.

MY HEROES HAVE ALWAYS BEEN JUNKIES will be presented in a gorgeous hardcover format and is sure to be a seductive coming-of-age story, a pop and drug culture-fueled tale of a young girl seeking darkness... and what she finds there.

MY HEROES HAVE ALWAYS BEEN JUNKIES (Diamond Code FEB188004, ISBN: 978-1-5343-0846-6) will be available in comic book stores on Wednesday, October 10th and bookstores on Tuesday, October 16th. It can be pre-ordered on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Books-a-Million, IndieBound, and Indigo.

Robert Kirkman's popular superhero comes to Toon Town!

Amazon Studios has given an eight-episode hour-long animated series to Invincible. From the Walking Dead creator, Cory Walker and artist Ryan Ottley, the toon is based on Kirkman’s popular comic book of the same name.

This comes out of the deal the studio inked last year with Kirkman.

Based on the Skybound/Image comic, Invincible is an adult animated superhero show that revolves around Mark Grayson, a normal teenager except for the fact that his father is the most powerful superhero on the planet. Shortly after his seventeenth birthday, Mark begins to develop powers of his own and enters into his father’s tutelage. (via Deadline)

Incredibles 2

And the better keeps getting best!

Deadline is reporting that Incredibles 2 earned an estimated $23.9 million Monday in early morning industry reporting (Disney will report their numbers later), the best ever for an animated movie, unseating DreamWorks Animation’s Shrek 2 which has long held the record with $23.4M since May 31, 2004. (Wow!)

On the list of best Mondays at the box office, Incredibles 2 also ranks as the second best-ever in June behind Jurassic World ($25.3M, June 15, 2015) and pushing Pixar’s Finding Dory to third ($19.6M, June 20, 2016).
MILLAR REVEALS ANOTHER HIT SERIES UP HIS SLEEVE IN THE MAGIC ORDER

Comics titan Mark Millar and Olivier Coipel (Amazing Spider-Man, Thor) launched Netflix’s THE MAGIC ORDER #1 last week to overwhelming critical acclaim and fan enthusiasm and broke industry records with some of the highest pre-order numbers in two decades.

"An important note to retailers: There will be no second printing on The Magic Order #2. Just like #1, we want to create a huge excitement on the day so that people who get their copy feel extra lucky,” said Millar. “What you order this weekend is what you get, but, as always, there is no risk to retailers, as this comic is returnable."

We live in a world where we’ve never seen a monster, and The Magic Order is the reason we sleep safely in our beds. Magic meets the mob in THE MAGIC ORDER, as five families of magicians—sworn to protect our world for generations—must battle an enemy who’s picking them off one by one. By day, they live among us as our neighbors, friends, and co-workers, but by night, they are the sorcerers, magicians, and wizards that protect us from the forces of darkness… unless the darkness gets them first.

THE MAGIC ORDER #1 will remain available for purchase across all digital platforms, including the Image Comics website (imagecomics.com), the official Image Comics iOS app, Comixology’s website (comixology.com), iOS, Android, and Google Play.

THE MAGIC ORDER #2 Cover A by Coipel (Diamond Code MAY180197), THE MAGIC ORDER #2 Cover B by Coipel (Diamond Code MAY180198), THE MAGIC ORDER #2 Cover C by Grampá (Diamond Code MAY188623) will be available on Wednesday, July 18th. The final order cutoff deadline for comics retailers is Monday, June 25th.

CHELSEA CAIN & KATE NIEMCZYK LAUNCH MAN-EATERS—THIS SEPTEMBER: THE CATS WANT IN

Eisner-nominated and New York Times bestselling thriller writer Chelsea Cain reunites Mockingbird creative team and returns to comics. Mockingbird artist Kate Niemczyk, colorist Rachelle Rosenberg, letterer Joe Caramagna, and writer Chelsea Cain are joined by Lia Miternique and Stella Greenvoss for a new ongoing series—MAN-EATERS—from Image comics this September.

“Pop culture has a long tradition of manifesting our cultural anxieties as monsters," said Cain. "What scares us most right now? …Women.”

A mutation in Toxoplasmosis causes menstruating women to turn into ferocious killer wildcats—easily provoked and extremely dangerous. As panic spreads and paranoia takes root, the fate of the world rides on the shoulders of one twelve-year-old girl. Part Cat People, part The Handmaid’s Tale, all pro-feline agenda.

Niemczyk added: “Only Chelsea would have me draw a tampon wearing a cape.”

MAN-EATERS—Cain’s first comic since Mockingbird lit up Twitter and made international headlines—is produced for Image comics by Ministry of Trouble, a production company founded by Cain and Miternique in 2017 with the mission of making trouble.

MAN-EATERS #1 (Diamond Code JUL180103) and MAN-EATERS #1 Glitter Cover (Diamond Code JUL180104) hit stores on Wednesday, September 26th. The final order cutoff deadline for comics retailers is Monday, September 3rd.
