MOWGLI TRAILER HAS DARK TELLING OF 'THE JUNGLE BOOK'05/21/18 @ 8:50 pm EST
The Kong seen in Skull Island
was anything but ordinary, and thankfully he won't be losing what made him special when he faces down Godzilla.
Those who saw Skull Island witnessed a Kong unlike any other previous incarnation, something director Jordan Vogt-Roberts strived to keep intact throughout the film production process. It appears that Godzilla vs. Kong
director Adam Wingard is taking steps to ensure that remains the case.
“Talking to Adam made me so happy because he, in particular, really understands the kind of anime, manga, mech sensibility that I was trying to bring to Kong," Roberts told Collider. "He gets that and that was something that I fought so hard for and was so difficult to sort of realize to life through concept to execution with ILM [Industrial Light and Magic.] That’s one of the things I’m most proud of with him. I think he truly gets that and he truly wants to lean into this version of Kong that kind of was born from my crazy and stupid video game brain.”
While Wingard is keeping the Anime inspiration for the character, he still has plenty of room to make the characters his own.
“Yeah. He’s got plenty of freedom to sort of play around with how he wants and to play around with … I always joke that my Kong was kind of like a character in a Shane Black movie in the sense that he just gets beat the fuck up by the end of the movie," Roberts said. "He’s just battered and scarred, and so he’s got that kind of reluctant protagonist vibe to him. I think Adam’s willing to take that anime thing and do what he needs to do as he squares off with Godzilla.”

AMAZON IN TALKS TO REVIVE 'THE EXPANSE' FOR SEASON 405/21/18 @ 8:25 pm EST
DC Super Hero Girls is an all-new animated action-comedy series from Warner Bros. Animation and based on characters from DC Entertainment. Featuring fresh character designs and storytelling from Emmy® Award–winning producer Lauren Faust (Super Best Friends Forever, My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic, Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends), DC Super Hero Girls will be coming soon to Cartoon Network.
The world may know them as Wonder Woman, Supergirl and Batgirl, but not-so-typical teenagers Diana, Kara and Barbara, alongside their Super Hero friends have much more to deal with than just protecting the citizens of Metropolis from some of the most sinister school-aged Super-Villains of the DC Universe. After all, being teens is tough enough, what with school, friends, family and the chaos that comes with managing a social life. But add super powers and a secret identity to the mix, and things can get a lot more complicated.
Sure, gal pals Bumblebee, Zatanna and Green Lantern Jessica Cruz are always there to lend an ear, a shoulder to cry on, and a fist to punch with, but what happens when Diana and her favorite study buddy and fencing partner, Tatsu, can’t agree on how to dole out justice as Wonder Woman and Katana? Or when Barbara finds out her Gotham-Con bestie is teen-fiend Harley Quinn? Along with all their friends, foes and frenemies, this squad of super teens navigates the unique growing pains that come when you’re a teenager trying to fight the battles of the world and the battles of growing up at the same time.
The new series is a global initiative with Cartoon Network and builds on the successful DC Super Hero Girls global franchise, including direct-to-video movies as well as digital webisodes launched in 2015 and viewed by millions of fans on the DC Super Hero Girls YouTube channel, as well as the DC Super Hero Girls mobile app.
Lauren Faust is executive producer with Sam Register (Teen Titans Go!) also serving as executive producer.

EISNER WINNER ERIC SHANOWER'S AGE OF BRONZE RETURNS WITH FULL-COLOR EDITIONS05/21/18 @ 8:01 pm EST
BOOM! Studios is proud to announceHOTEL DARE, an all-new original graphic novel (OGN) written by Terry Blas (Dead Weight
) and illustrated by rising talent Claudia Aguirre (Kim&Kim
). Arriving in stores April 2019, this world-hopping fantasy follows Olive and her adopted siblings, Darwin and Charlotte, as they spend their summer with their estranged grandma Mama Lupe at her creepy hotel in Mexico. When their boring chores lead them to discover a secret hiding behind every door of the hotel – thanks to a mysterious ancient mask -- the kids are transported to three magical worlds filled with space Pirates, bearded Wizards, and cotton-candied kingdoms. But if they’re gonna save these three worlds from certain jeopardy, they’ll need to embrace the love and acceptance of family…before they tear themselves apart!
"HOTEL DARE is the exact kind of story I've always wanted to write: an all ages adventure featuring a diverse family that spans worlds and times,” said Terry Blas. “To bring this type of story to life, featuring characters from some of the largest minority groups with the least amount of representation is important to me and hopefully it will connect with people of all backgrounds, interests and ages."
"HOTEL DARE is the ultimate adventure book I would have loved as a kid; world-hopping action, and a cast of lovable Latino characters who take on the mantle of heroes,” said Claudia Aguirre. “Who doesn’t like a story with a heroic Mexican abuelita? I am very proud to be the artist for this amazing adventure for all ages. I'm hoping it will connect with you too, and make you feel like part of the Dare family!”
HOTEL DARE is the latest release from BOOM! Studios’ critically acclaimed KaBOOM! imprint, publisher of world-class licensed series such as Rugrats, Steven Universe, Over the Garden Wall, Peanuts
, and Garfield
, along with original series like Brave Chef Brianna
by Sam Sykes and Selina Espiritu, and The Deep
by Tom Taylor and James Brouwer.
“Family and interdimensional travel -- what is there not to love about HOTEL DARE?” said Whitney Leopard, Editor, BOOM! Studios. “No matter how old we get, we always imagine the world that awaits us behind every door we open and that is just one of the things that Terry and Claudia are exploring in this beautiful, touching, filled with surprises story!”
Print copies of HOTEL DARE will be available for sale in April 2019 at local comic book shops (use comicshoplocator.com to find the nearest one), bookstores or at the BOOM! Studios webstore. Digital copies can be purchased from content providers, including comiXology, iBooks, Google Play, and the BOOM! Studios app.

SPIDERGEDDON IS NIGH05/20/18 @ 10:57 pm EST
Lion Forge announces a new hire in its editorial department today, bringing industry veteran Carol Burrell aboard as executive editor of the company’s CubHouse imprint. Additionally, Vice President–Executive Editor Andrea Colvin has been promoted to editor in chief.
“I’m looking forward to this next step and to a brand-new opportunity to work on great stories, to introduce new generations of kids to the visual storytelling that we love, and to help build happy readers as they grow from their very first books into lifelong fans of comics (and all reading!),” says Carol Burrell, CubHouse executive editor. “Getting to be a part of Lion Forge’s special dedication to inclusivity, authenticity, and opening up the megaphone to a variety of voices is a wonderful creative mission, and I can’t wait to get started.”
“I am so excited that Carol has agreed to join us in this integral role in the Lion Forge editorial group,” says Andrea Colvin, Lion Forge editor in chief. “Carol will be instrumental in building out our children’s book lines, including picture books, early reader comics, and transitional comics for emerging readers. Her wealth of experience in both comics and children’s books and her passion for the company’s core mission of publishing ‘comics for everyone’ make Carol the ideal person, at the ideal time, to take on this pivotal role in our growing company.” Carol M. Burrell is a Glyph Award–nominated New York cartoonist and former editorial director of the Graphic Universe imprint of Lerner Publishing Group, and has also worked as an editor with Houghton Mifflin’s Clarion Books and Abrams ComicArts. Burrell is an alumna of Cornell University, where she majored in classics.
In 2005, she launched her webcomic SPQR Blues (as Klio), a historical drama that takes place in the shadow of Mount Vesuvius, with characters based on the actual inhabitants of the cities of Pompeii and Herculaneum, whose names are known from graffiti, inscriptions, and the records of a notorious (and unresolved) ancient lawsuit. In 2008, she started working at Graphic Universe, before moving on to Abrams ComicArts and Workman Publishing. She is also the translator of several series of French graphic novels for kids.
Before coming to Lion Forge, Andrea Colvin was previously vice president of content, book division, for Andrews McMeel, where she co-founded the AMP! line of middle grade graphic novels; director of publishing operations for Open Road Integrated Media; as well as executive managing editor for Abrams. She served as an adjunct professor in NYU’s Graduate Publishing Program in 2011 and completed the Yale University Publishing Course in 2013.
