TALES FROM THE DARK MULTIVERSE INFECTS SOME OF THE BIGGEST EVENTS IN DC HISTORY THIS OCTOBER
07/16/19 @ 1:15 pm EST
Source: DC | Categories: DC | Comments (0) | E-mail Article | Add a Comment

DC has announced plans to put a twisted and terrifying spin on some of the biggest, most game-changing events in its publishing history with a series of prestige format one-shots called TALES FROM THE DARK MULTIVERSE. Beginning in October, DC’s most talented artists and writers will take fan-favorite events from the DC Universe down a dark and twisted path.

TALES FROM THE DARK MULTIVERSE: BATMAN: KNIGHTFALL #1

Co-written by Scott Snyder (DARK NIGHTS: METAL, JUSTICE LEAGUE, THE BATMAN WHO LAUGHS) and Kyle Higgins (DEATHSTROKE, BATMAN ETERNAL, NIGHTWING: THE NEW ORDER), with art by Javier Fernandez (JUSTICE LEAGUE) and a cover by Lee Weeks (BATMAN), this one-shot takes place in a Gotham City 30 years after a broken Bruce Wayne failed to take back the mantle of the Bat. In his place arose Jean-Paul Valley, also known as Saint Batman. Under his iron rule, Saint Batman has turned Gotham into the city of his dreams – killing has become commonplace and criminals live in constant fear—all in the name of justice.

But just when all seems lost, a new hope for Gotham rises: The Son of Bane.

TALES FROM THE DARK MULTIVERSE: THE DEATH OF SUPERMAN #1

The Dark Multiverse takes on the highest-selling comic book event of all time, courtesy of writer Jeff Loveness (Rick and Morty, DC’S NUCLEAR WINTER SPECIAL, DC’S MYSTERIES OF LOVE IN SPACE), with art by Brad Walker (DETECTIVE COMICS) and Andrew Hennessy (SINESTRO, THE DEMON: HELL IS EARTH, TITANS), with a cover by Lee Weeks.

In a broken world much like our own, Lois Lane, twisted by rage and grief over the Man of Steel’s death, becomes the Eradicator, taking revenge on those who let Superman die and the corrupt world he could never defeat. Now, with the power of a god, she’s going to end the “never-ending” battle by any means necessary, halting the Reign of the Supermen before it even begins.

These are the first of several titles in this new line; additional one-shots will focus on other events such as INFINITE CRISIS, BLACKEST NIGHT, NEW TEEN TITANS: THE JUDAS CONTRACT, and more. Each of these prestige format one-shots is 48 pages long at a price of $5.99. TALES FROM THE DARK MULTIVERSE: BATMAN: KNIGHTFALL #1 will be available at comics shops and participating digital retailers on Wednesday, October 16. TALES FROM THE DARK MULTIVERSE: THE DEATH OF SUPERMAN #1 arrives at comic book shops and digital retailers two weeks later, Wednesday, October 30. Timed to the release of each TALES FROM THE DARK MULTIVERSE title, fans can also purchase a one-dollar reprint of the original comic each story is based on, BATMAN #497 (October 16) and SUPERMAN #75 (October 30).

IDW PUBLISHING AND CMON LIMITED ANNOUNCE RISING SUN COMIC BOOK SERIES
08/21/19 @ 3:38 pm EST
Source: IDW | Categories: IDW | Comments (0) | E-mail Article | Add a Comment

Rising Sun, the award-winning board game published by CMON Limited and designed by Eric M. Lang, will see its epic setting, feudal combat, and political intrigue adapted to comics in an all-new comic book series from IDW Publishing.

Co-written by industry legend Ron Marz and David Rodriguez (the creative team behind IDW’s Skylanders) and illustrated by Martín Cóccolo (Star Trek: Year Five), the three-issue miniseries will debut its first issue in November, and – as an added bonus – each issue of Rising Sun will feature exclusive content to enhance the game-playing experience for dedicated fans.

IDW’s Rising Sun storyline introduces Chiyoko of the Koi Clan, leader of a group of powerful warriors – the best each clan has to offer – on a mission to save Japan from dragons and monsters. But perhaps the greatest threat she faces is not the many monsters who are ravaging the country… but her very own team!

“When I first saw the game, I immediately knew it was a world I wanted to play in,” says Ron Marz. “As soon as I found out that Rising Sunwas going to move into comics, I was the first one jumping up and down with my hand raised, yelling, ‘Pick me! Pick me!’”

Rising Sun has a huge amount of world-building and deep backstory with the Clans, and it’s been great creating characters representing aspects of those clans and throwing them together,” says David Rodriguez. “I've had the pleasure of working with Ron, Martin, and game designer Eric M. Lang on other projects. They're great talents, and IDW pulling them all together was a huge win for the book.”

“As an artist, it's a real treat to be a part of a comic adaption of this caliber,” says Martín Cóccolo. “The game is absolutely gorgeous and hopefully fans will find that I’ve treated the source material with respect. It's a pleasure and a responsibility that I'm thrilled to take.”

“Considering that Rising Sun is a game about myths and legends, we are extremely honored to have such a legendary creative team working to bring a whole new dimension to the title,” says CMON’s Geoff Skinner. “We can’t wait for this story to add a whole new narrative dimension to the way people play the game.”

STEPHEN KING NOVEL 'THE GIRL WHO LOVED TOM GORDON' GETTING THE MOVIE TREATMENT

Source: Hollywood Reporter | Categories: MIsc | Comments (0) | E-mail Article | Add a Comment

The late George A. Romero was once going to direct an adaptation. Now his former wife is teaming up with the producers of 'It' to bring it to the screen.

THR reports that Stephen King’s novel The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon is heading to the big screen.

Chris Romero, former wife of late horror filmmaker George A. Romero, is teaming up with It producer Roy Lee and Jon Berg of Vertigo Films as well as Ryan Silbert of Origin Story to produce a film adaptation of the 1999 novel.

Tom Gordon tells of a young girl named Trisha McFarland who gets lost while hiking with her recently divorced mother and brother in the woods. Nine years old and scared of the dark, the girl winds up stumbling through the woods for nine days, wandering farther and farther from civilization even as she tries to make her way back home. As she walks, dehydration, hunger, and exhaustion cause her to hallucinate, talking to several people, including her idol, a baseball player named Tom Gordon.

But she also begins to believe that she’s being stalked by a supernatural beast known as The God of the Lost, and soon her ordeal becomes a test of both her sanity and her ability to fight for her life.

A search for a writer to tackle the script is under way.
DC AND MATTEL ANNOUNCE 'HE-MAN AND THE MASTERS OF THE MULTIVERSE'

DC and Mattel are teaming up once again to chronicle new adventures of Eternia’s greatest champion in HE-MAN AND THE MASTERS OF THE MULTIVERSE, a six-issue limited series debuting in November. Writer Tim Seeley, artists Dan Fraga and Richard Friend, along with cover artist Inhyuk Lee join forces to tell this tale of heroes making their last stand to protect their kingdoms against an impossible threat. In their desperation, they’re forced to risk their futures by reaching out to an unlikely and potentially dangerous ally.

“The Masters of the Universe franchise continues with the all-new comic book series, He-Man and the Masters of the Multiverse,” said Rob David, VP of Mattel. “With multiple He-Mans working together from different dimensions to save the multiverse, this series created in partnership with the expert writers and illustrators from DC Comics will be sure to delight new and old fans alike, while adding an entirely new dimension to the Power of Grayskull.”

The scourge of Anti-Eternia is unleashed on the Multiverse bent on utter destruction. Each version of Eternia has fallen in the wake of his devastation as he steals its power and grows stronger. Now it’s up to a rag-tag team of surviving He-Men from across the multiverse to stem the tide, but to do so they’ll have to recruit the one man in existence that might help them win: Prince Keldor, the man who would be Skeletor!

“DC has had a long-standing and exciting partnership with Mattel in bringing the adventures of He-Man to comics and our fans,” said Hank Kanalz, SVP, Publishing Strategy and Support Services. “DC also knows what it means to showcase characters from across its own multiverse; I’m looking forward to seeing the different iterations of He-Man and other Masters of the Universe characters in this series.”

On sale November 20, this 32-page debut issue also features a variant cover by interior artist Dan Fraga and is priced at $3.99.

Fearless #3

FEARLESS (2019) #3

Marvel's female-driven anthology series FEARLESS continues to be a fierce force! FEARLESS #2 goes on sale today (Wednesday, August 21), and now Marvel can announce three new members of the stellar creative team working on upcoming issues: Award-winning writer Alyssa Wong and artist Alti Firmansyah (X-MEN '92) will team up for a Jubilee story in FEARLESS #3, on sale Wednesday, September 25! Artist Marguerite Sauvage will also draw the pages written by comics "herstorian" Trina Robbins in FEARLESS #4, out Wednesday, October 23.

Wong and Firmansyah shared their feelings about becoming part of Marvel "herstory" as members of Team Fearless:

Alyssa Wong: "I'm stoked to be part of FEARLESS! I'm writing a story about teenage Jubilee, social media, and being open about your identity, and how that contrasts with the experiences of older mutants having to hide their powers. Jubilee is an Asian-American icon, and she's a really fun character with bright, fun powers. I'm excited to have the chance to write her for this anthology, and to work on this story with Alti! I love that FEARLESS is a celebration of our work and the value, richness, and power that our stories bring to the table."

Alti Firmansyah: “We all went through adolescence -- periods of searching for self-identity and how sometimes we’re not ashamed to brag about it in public. Through Jubilee's expressions and actions, I got the chance to draw that particular teenage phase in FEARLESS #3. How proud and amazed I am to be involved in this amazing Marvel 'herstory' moment and to be among great women in comic industry.”

Wong, Firmansyah, and Sauvage join a growing group of female creators working on FEARLESS including Seanan McGuire, Claire Roe, Rachelle Rosenberg, Leah Williams, Kelly Thompson, Karla Pacheco, Eve Ewing, and more. Stay tuned to Marvel.com to find out who's coming on board next!

FEARLESS #2, written by Seanan McGuire, Karla Pacheco, and Eve Ewing with art by Claire Roe, Iolanda Zanfardino, Alitha Martinez, and Rachelle Rosenberg (colors), goes on sale today online and at your local comic shop.

MARVEL’S 'RUNAWAYS' BECOME 'DOC JUSTICE AND THE J-TEAM'

Face front, True Believers, and prepare to meet Doc Justice and the J-Team!

On September 25, one of the mighty Marvel Universe's most beloved groups starts a new journey under a fresh moniker in RUNAWAYS #25!

RunawaysRUNAWAYS #27 cover by Kris Anka

That's right! RUNAWAYS editor Nick Lowe teased the news yesterday afternoon, and next month, writer Rainbow Rowell and artist Andrés Genolet present the beginning of an unprecedented era for one of Marvel's favorite families.

"We started mapping out the latest arc of RUNAWAYS, issues #25-30, and we thought about one of the things that this series does best is take a classic Super Hero comic idea and subvert it, do a Runaways spin on it," explains Lowe. "From classic moments in the original Brian K. Vaughan-Adrian Alphona run to stuff in the more recent issues, so much of this series is about subverting those Super Hero expectations and ideas.

"And something that Super Hero comics do is a big costume change or a name change, and Rainbow had the idea for Doc Justice and the J-Team—this venerable Los Angeles hero who's without his support team. And maybe the Runaways become that! So what we've got coming up is Doc Justice recruiting the Runaways, and they've never done anything like this before.

"For as much as RUNAWAYS is a Marvel comic, as much as they're super-powered characters," Nick continues, "they're not Super Heroes. They never have been. They've done things to help people, heroic things, but they're not Super Heroes; they don't go on patrol. So you'll see the start of it all in issues #24-26, but things really start happening in issue #27... And we have a guest artist for that (who's not really a guest) because Kris Anka is back for an issue! He's coming in for RUNAWAYS #27 to help us mint the group as the J-Team. We're super glad to have him.

"This arc is gonna go places you will not expect it to go. If there's one thing you know about RUNAWAYS, it's that it will surprise you at every turn..."

SONY 'DISAPPOINTED' BY DISNEY'S DIVORCE ON 'SPIDER-MAN' PROJECTS
08/21/19 @ 9:04 am EST
Source: Variety | Categories: Spider-Man | Comments (0) | E-mail Article | Add a Comment

The studio is placing the blame on Disney for cutting short the inter-studio co-operation.

Sony Pictures has gone public over its divorce with Disney on future Spider-Man projects, Variety reports.

In a rare public rebuke to Disney, Sony announced Tuesday night that it was “disappointed” over the decision, highlighting Disney’s refusal to allow Marvel President Kevin Feige to continue as a producer on the projects. It also praised Feige, who teamed with Amy Pascal on Spider-Man: Far From Home, which became Sony’s most successful release earlier this week in terms of global box office.

“Much of today’s news about Spider-Man has mischaracterized recent discussions about Kevin Feige’s involvement in the franchise,” Sony said in a statement. “We are disappointed, but respect Disney’s decision not to have him continue as a lead producer of our next live action Spider-Man film.”

“We hope this might change in the future, but understand that the many new responsibilities that Disney has given him – including all their newly added Marvel properties – do not allow time for him to work on IP they do not own,” the statement continued. “Kevin is terrific and we are grateful for his help and guidance and appreciate the path he has helped put us on, which we will continue.”

With Feige not producing future Spider-Man films, the impasse effectively removes Tom Holland’s Spider-Man from the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The dispute stems from Disney’s demand that future Spider-Man films would be financed on a 50/50 basis, with Feige remaining in a consulting producer capacity. Sony is believed to have proposed keeping the arrangement under the current terms, which stipulate that Marvel receives about 5% of first-dollar gross and all merchandising revenues. However, Disney allegedly expressed concerns that Feige was spread too thin due to other Marvel projects plus original projects for Disney Plus.

Representatives for Disney and for Marvel were not immediately available for comment.
