YOUR FIRST LOOK AT CODA #4 FROM SIMON SPURRIER & MATíAS BERGARA
07/13/18 @ 7:56 pm EST
Source: BOOM! Studios | Categories: MIsc | Comments (0) | E-mail Article | Add a Comment

BOOM! Studios today unveiled a first look atCODA #4, the newest chapter of the critically-acclaimed broken fantasy epic from Eisner-nominated writer Simon Spurrier (Sandman, The Spire) and Matías Bergara (Cannibal, Supergirl), on-sale in August.

This all-new series, which sold out at a distributor level before the release of the first issue, reveals the aftermath of an apocalypse which wiped out nearly all magic from a once-wondrous fantasy world, in which an antisocial former bard named Hum seeks a way to save the soul of his wife with nothing but a foul-tempered mutant unicorn and his wits to protect him...but is unwillingly drawn into a brutal power struggle which will decide forever who rules the weird wasteland.

In CODA #4, featuring a main cover by Bergara, along with variant covers by the award-winning team of Michael & Laura Allred (Silver Surfer) and artist Jay Shaw (Big Trouble in Little China), Hum has successfully warded off Thundervale from its assault on Ridgetown for at least one more day, and now turns his attention to the Urken soldier who turned the tides of the battle...

“The reveal at the end of Issue #3 is a status quo shaker, and you won’t want to miss what happens next for Hum,” said Eric Harburn, Senior Editor, BOOM! Studios. “CODA #4 may be the end of our first arc, but it’s just the beginning of the epic Si and Matías are crafting.”

CODA is the latest release from BOOM! Studios’ eponymous imprint, home to a world-class group of licensed comic book series and ambitious original series, including Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, Planet of the Apes, WWE, Abbott, Mech Cadet Yu, Klaus and Grass Kings, which was recently nominated for two 2018 Eisner Awards.

Print copies of CODA #4 will available for sale on August 15, 2018 at local comic book shops (use comicshoplocator.com to find the nearest one) or at the BOOM! Studios webstore, though quantities may be limited. Digital copies can be purchased from content providers, including comiXology, iBooks, Google Play, and the BOOM! Studios app.

BOOM! STUDIOS LAUNCHES NEW BEN 10 GRAPHIC NOVEL PROGRAM
07/13/18 @ 7:54 pm EST
Source: BOOM! Studios | Categories: MIsc | Comments (0) | E-mail Article | Add a Comment

BOOM! Studios is proud to continue The Road to San Diego, a ten-day spotlight on the most exciting comic book and graphic novel news in advance of Comic Con International in San Diego (July 18-22), by announcing that the company has acquired the comic book and graphic novel license to Cartoon Network’s animated series Ben 10.

The first release from this partnership will be BEN 10: THE TRUTH IS OUT THERE, an all-new original graphic novel by Rainbow Award-winning writer CB Lee (Not Your Sidekick) and artist Lidan Chen in March 2019. BEN 10: THE TRUTH IS OUT THERE, based on Cartoon Network’s 2017 relaunched franchise, is the first in a series of original graphic novels that will anchor BOOM! Studios’ publishing program for the property.

Ben 10 introduces fun loving, 10-year-old, Ben Tennyson, his cousin Gwen and Grandpa Max, as they travel the country during summer vacation. Once Ben finds the Omnitrix, a mysterious watch that transforms him into 10 different heroic aliens, a world of extraterrestrial superpowers opens up to him. Ben 10 is produced by Cartoon Network Studios and created and executive produced by Man of Action Entertainment.

“I am so thrilled to be working with BOOM! Studios and Cartoon Network on the Ben 10 original graphic novels,” said CB Lee. “I grew up watching cartoons and had so much fun getting to follow my favorite characters to far-off worlds, and especially following their adventures, seeing friendships form and fighting for what you believe in. Ben 10 absolutely encompasses everything I love about storytelling - it’s so clever and has so much humor and heart. The original graphic novels will follow Ben, Gwen, Grandpa Max on all new adventures with mischief, monsters, and more mayhem with Ben and his aliens — and will be fun for fans of the show who want more of the Ben 10 universe, as well as a wonderful way to introduce new people to this series. I can't wait to share these new adventures with all of you!”

Ben 10 is a cartoon I love very much, so working on this graphic novel is a great opportunity and a big challenge,” said Lidan Chen. “I’m enjoying drawing all the characters - especially the aliens because they are really cool!”

BEN 10: THE TRUTH IS OUT THERE features a new cover by artist Ling Chen (Regular Show).

“The Ben 10 creators have mixed charming characters with absolutely unforgettable adventures that have you rooting for Ben at every chance,” said Whitney Leopard, Editor, BOOM! Studios. “We’re excited explore the mythology in comic book form, and BEN 10: THE TRUTH IS OUT THERE is the first graphic novel where we get to join Ben, Gwen and Grandpa Max in the Rust Bucket and explore the summer with them. There will be hijinks, there will be aliens, and there is going to be a lot fun.”

BEN 10: THE TRUTH IS OUT THERE is the latest release from BOOM! Studios’ award-winning KaBOOM! imprint, home to comics for middle grade and younger readers including licensed series such as Adventure Time, Steven Universe, Peanuts, and Garfield, along with original series like Mega Princess by Kelly Thompson and Brianne Drouhard, Bodie Troll by Jay Fosgitt, RuinWorld by Derek Laufman, and The Deep by Tom Taylor and James Brouwer.

Print copies of BEN 10: THE TRUTH IS OUT THERE will be available for sale in March 2019 at local comic book shops (use comicshoplocator.com to find the nearest one), bookstores and the BOOM! Studios webstore. Digital copies can be purchased from content providers, including comiXology, iBooks, Google Play, and the BOOM! Studios app.

Days before the opening of the exhibit hall at Comic-Con International 2018, Lion Forge reveals a new series for middle-grade readers developed in conjunction with computer scientist and entrepreneur Tim Howe’s Know Yourself, the Oakland, California–based public benefit corporation dedicated to self-literacy in early education.

“Know Yourself was founded on the belief that character and story are essential to helping kids and teens learn about themselves and the world around them. We could not be prouder to have Debian Perl and her friends meet the world and start helping readers on this journey. And we could not be more excited to be working with Lion Forge, the world’s most innovative comic book publisher, whose philosophy of cultural diversity and comic books for all we wholeheartedly share.”—Tim Howes, CEO

Megalopolis used to be the city hub for all the makers, doers, and dreamers. It was a better time according to Debian Perl, a technomancer known for her out-of-date computer programming skills. Now the city streets are filled with “Egg-heads,” those in thrall to the ease and simplicity of new technology as opposed to Debian’s way of doing things. Digits is one of those Egg-heads. She is a young social media guru and knows her way around all the newest, latest technology.

Debian and Digits cross paths when they both stumble across a one-hundred-year-old lost robot named Ray-Bot. They soon learn that Ray-Bot’s CPU was suspiciously overclocked, leaving him unable to perform basic functions and commands. To find out where the robot came from, Debian must teach Digits everything she knows about computer coding and programming. Along their journey to bring Ray-Bot home, they begin piecing together the mysterious puzzle about his malfunction and uncover some sinister secrets.

Debian Perl: Digital Detective is a five-book series in which middle-grade readers will join Debian and Digits on mystery adventures all while building practical knowledge of coding, algorithms, algebra, and logical problem solving.

“I love working with Lion Forge, and co-developing the Debian Perlproject with them has been so exciting. The people working on this book (writers Mel Hilario and Lauren Davis, artist Katie Longua, our tech-advising CEO, Tim Howes) are putting so much thought and study into every page. With Andrea Colvin and myself overseeing, we hope to introduce something truly innovative for younger audiences. Yes, we want kids to learn how to code, but we also want to give them a new world to explore, characters to identify with, mysteries to solve, and present social messages to contemplate. Additionally, we have a lot of fun ideas and hope to expand beyond the scope of the books themselves.”—Samuel Sattin, Creative Director

“Know Yourself does amazing work creating content that is really fun and also really educational. They are the perfect partner for Lion Forge in crafting exciting graphic novels that also teach concepts of coding and computer science to kids.”—Andrea Colvin, Editor-in-Chief, Lion Forge Comics

“I’ve drawn my whole life because of the comics I grew up with. They were an incredibly important part of my childhood and shaped the career I have today. It’s an honor to work together with Lion Forge and get the chance to have that impact on kids growing up now.”—Katie Longua, artist, Debian Perl

“When I was growing up, I wanted magic to be real because so many of the stories that I loved were about magic. Technology grows more and more magical every year, and I want younger readers to realize that they have access to that magical technology—that they can harness it, control it, and create new things with it. It’s been exciting to work with Lion Forge because they’ve shared our vision of making the magical more accessible.”—Lauren Davis, co-writer, Debian Perl

“When I was younger, I escaped into books; today, I see them as not just an escape but as a means of transport—both as joy and journey.  Stories make things significant, especially when a reader can find something of themselves or their own lives in the characters. In a way, fiction is the clearest path to truth.  Kids can see that.  Writing for them keeps me from losing the kid in myself.”—Mel Hilario, co-writer, Debian Perl

Debian Perl is created in partnership with Know Yourself, a company dedicated to helping kids learn more about themselves and the world around them. This incredibly entertaining new series combines logic, puzzles, and learning with page-turning, action-packed, mystery-adventure stories. The first volume in the series is due to arrive in summer 2019.

Deadline is reporting that April Bowlby, who plays Elasti-Woman in a guest-starring stint on the upcoming DC Universe series Titans, will reprise that role on the digital service’s follow-up live-action series Doom Patrol.

Bowlby’s Rita Farr, an actress on the rise, adopts the moniker of Elasti-Woman after she was exposed to a toxic gas that altered her cellular structure. Longing for the days of old, Rita finds a place for herself among the Doom Patrol.

Doom Patrol, which received a 13-episode straight-to-series order in May, begins production this year for a 2019 premiere on DC Universe. It will follow the live-action Titans, slated to debut later this year.
