LIFT OFF WITH SNOOPY: A BEAGLE OF MARS
07/15/19 @ 2:35 pm EST
Source: BOOM! Studios | Categories: MIsc | Comments (0) | E-mail Article | Add a Comment

BOOM! Studios today announced SNOOPY: A BEAGLE OF MARS, an all-new original graphic novel in partnership with Peanuts Worldwide, that launches the world’s most beloved beagle on his grandest adventure yet! From Flying Ace to Astronaut in Space, Snoopy embarks on an exploratory mission to Mars in this original graphic novel written by Jason Cooper, illustrated by Robert Pope and colored by Hannah White, and available in stores December 2019.

NASA has shared a proud association with Charles M. Schulz and his American icon Snoopy since Apollo missions began in the 1960s. In May 1969, Apollo 10 astronauts traveled to the Moon with the aid of a lunar module named Snoopy and a command module named Charlie Brown. That was also the year of the first Silver Snoopy Award — given by NASA astronauts to employees and contractors for outstanding achievements related to human flight safety or mission success. Fifty years after their first collaboration, Peanuts Worldwide and NASA entered into a multiyear Space Act Agreement in 2018, engineered to inspire a passion for space exploration and STEM education among students.

In SNOOPY: A BEAGLE OF MARS, Snoopy, the world-famous astronaut, heads to the stars in his most out-of-this-world adventure yet! What mysteries does the red planet hold? Will he find water? Will he find life? Will he find the time to get in a quick nine holes? Snoopy grabs his golf clubs and blasts off for Mars in this original graphic novel from the world of Charles M. Schulz and Peanuts!

“Sharing a love of STEM and space exploration through the beloved Astronaut Snoopy is a great honor for us.” said Craig Herman, Senior Director, Category Management, Peanuts Worldwide. “Charles Schulz inspired generations through his comic strip and characters, and I hope this graphic novel will spark the imagination of many future scientists and space travelers.”

Charles M. Schulz once described himself as “born to draw comic strips.” Born in Minneapolis, at just two days old, an uncle nicknamed him “Sparky” after the horse Spark Plug from the Barney Google comic strip, and throughout his youth, he and his father shared a Sunday morning ritual reading the funnies. After serving in the Army during World War II, Schulz’s first big break came in 1947 when he sold a cartoon feature called Li’l Folks to the St. Paul Pioneer Press. In 1950, Schulz met with United Feature Syndicate, and on October 2nd of that year, PEANUTS, named by the syndicate, debuted in seven newspapers. Charles Schulz died in Santa Rosa, California, in Feburary 2000 — just hours before his last original strip was to appear in the Sunday papers.

Jason Cooper is head writer at Charles M. Schulz Creative Associates where he has written storybooks, comic books, and graphic novels for PEANUTS. He relates to Charlie Brown much more than a person should.

Cartoonist and animator Robert W. Pope has the greatest of fun drawing thePEANUTS gang for BOOM! Studios. Over the years he’s also drawn the adventures of the Looney Tunes gang, Scooby-Doo, the Powerpuff Girls, Johnny Bravo, and many more for DC, IDW, Disney Publishing and more.

Hannah White is a colorist and artist for Charles M. Schulz Creative Associates; a 2016 graduate of SCAD Savannah, Hannah enjoys her two cats, making comics, and playing video games.

"All systems are go in a Snoopy adventure unlike anything you've ever read before, introducing everyone's favorite beagle to the wonders of outer space as he journeys to Mars." said Chris Rosa, Editor, BOOM! Studios. "The Schulz Studio team has crafted a wonderfully fun and humorous tale so whether you're a kid or just a kid at heart, this is the kind of story that reminds you why Peanuts has such an unparalleled place in pop culture."

SNOOPY: A BEAGLE OF MARS is the latest release from BOOM! Studios’ award-winning KaBOOM! imprint, home to comics for middle grade and younger readers including licensed series such as Adventure Time, Steven Universe, Regular Show, Ben 10, and Over The Garden Wall, along with original series like Just Beyond: The Scare School by R.L. Stine and Kelly & Nichole Matthews, Hex Vet by Sam Davies,RuinWorld by Derek Laufman, and Pandora’s Legacy by Kara Leopard, Kelly & Nichole Matthews.

Print copies of SNOOPY: A BEAGLE OF MARS will be available for sale in December 2019 at local comic book shops (use comicshoplocator.com to find the nearest one), bookstores and the BOOM! Studios webstore. Digital copies can be purchased from content providers, including comiXology, iBooks, Google Play, and the BOOM! Studios app.

ARTGERM'S VAMPIRELLA BROUGHT TO LIFE WITH STATUE BUST!
07/15/19 @ 2:29 pm EST
Source: Dynamite | Categories: Dynamite | Comments (0) | E-mail Article | Add a Comment

Dynamite proudly announces a statue bust reproducing Stanley "Artgerm" Lau’s not-yet-released, yet already classic cover for Vampirella #2!

This 7.5 inches tall high quality resin bust is Dynamite's most unique rendering of Vampi to date. Artgerm's haunting cover has been expertly translated to the third dimension by veteran sculptor Steve Kiwus. To then be meticulously hand-painted, right down to the heroine's bloody "outfit."

Dynamite already knew that anything Artgerm tackled would turn out spectacular, but the entire team jumped out of their shoes when they saw his latest sultry yet fierce take on the Daughter of Drakulon. When fans went wild following its reveal, everyone knew it just had to be brought off the page and onto the shelf! The pose and scale of the image was perfect for a bust. With the added bed of detailed three-dimensional skulls for a base, it turned out even better than expected! More detailed photos from the produced piece will be shared closer to release.

"It has been a wonderful experience working with Dynamite and contributing my first comic cover to Vampirella’s legacy. It’s even more exciting to see my art come to life with this bust format statue, which is a first for me," said artist Stanley "Artgerm" Lau. "For all Vampirella fans out there, I hope the statue will be a great addition to your collection and a reminder of how much you love this beautiful and deadly lady."

Lucio Parrillo's long history with Dynamite is showcased for fans in new deluxe art book!

Today Lucio Parrillo is one of the most in demand and acclaimed cover artists in the comics industry. Long before this was universally acknowledged, Dynamite recognized Parrillo's masterful painting abilities and worked with him on countless covers for the biggest titles. The Dynamite Art of Lucio Parrillo is a deluxe hardcover art book reprinting these pieces on oversized high quality paper without logos or other distractions so fans can marvel at the work. It's just one step away from seeing the paintings in person!

"I have been working with Dynamite for over 10 years and have made so many covers of Red Sonja, Vampirella and many other important characters," said Lucio Parrillo. "I grew artistically studying the artists of the past and frequenting the museums of Paris, Rome and Florence. My style blends 19th century classics with a modern twist. Traditional painting techniques are more rare in today's market, with so many going digital, and I think that is a part of what attracts my fans to me."

Parrillo is recognized as one of Red Sonja's greatest cover artists, depicting her throughout her storied barbarian life. He's painted the fiery heroine's early and later life, including the covers of almost every issue of the Queen Sonja series. Parrillo has also crafted countless covers for everyone's favorite Drakulonian, Vampirella! His often dark compositions stick in the minds of collectors. Just as at home in pulpy jungles and Martian sand, Parrillo has also added to the legacy of Edgar Rice Burroughs's creations John Carter, Dejah Thoris and Tarzan. Plus even more covers of zombies, pirates and the Chaos! Comics crew!

Add it all together and that's 200 pages of amazing sci-fi and fantasy images as well as beautiful women and horrific beasts! Over 150 covers to feast your eyes upon and a selection of process and preliminary pieces of art curated by Parrillo himself! Collectors can also check out signed editions and even ones with one-of-a-kind remarks from Lucio!

"It's been an absolute pleasure to work with Lucio on so many projects to this day," said Nick Barrucci, Dynamite Publisher and CEO. "He truly ranks up there as one of the great cover artists of this era or any, and each new piece never disappoints. We're incredibly proud to have contributed to his soaring career and knew this was the perfect time to assemble a dedicated spotlight for his work!"

Fans can catch Lucio Parrillo's latest masterpieces for Dynamite in Red Sonja: Birth of the She-Devil, Death-Defying 'Devil and the just announced Vengeance of Vampirella!

The Dynamite Art of Lucio Parrillo will be solicited in Diamond Comic Distributors’ August 2019 Previews catalog, the premier source of merchandise for the comic book specialty market, and slated for release in November 2019 in time for the holidays! Comic book fans are encouraged to preorder copies with their local comic book retailers. It will also be available for individual customer purchase through digital platforms courtesy of Comixology, Kindle, iBooks, Google Play, Dynamite Digital, ComicsPlus, and more!

DYNAMITE SIGNS TOM SNIEGOSKI TO VENGEANCE OF VAMPIRELLA SERIES! PICKING UP FROM ICONIC 1990S STORY!

Dynamite announces a new Vengeance of Vampirella ongoing series to continue the iconic heroine's 50th anniversary celebration!

Swooping in on bat wings in time for Halloween, this series is quite special. Prolific Vampirella writer Tom Sniegoski (Punisher, Angel) returns once more to the Daughter of Drakulon - and picks up exactly where he left off in 1996! Sniegoski is joined by hot new artist Michael Sta. Maria (Fathom, Jirni).

"If somebody had told me just a few years ago that I'd be able to come back to a character I have great affection for, and pick up with her exactly where I left off 25 years ago, I would've said that it would never happen," said writer Tom Sniegoski. "But here I am, smack dab in the horrific, apocalyptic world that I set up for Vampirella and never got to play in. And I haven't heard the word 'NO' yet, no matter how insane the idea. Just wait until you see Michael Sta. Maria's art, peoples' new favorite Vampirella artist is about to be unleashed! Can you tell I'm excited?"

The original Vengeance of Vampirella series made a huge splash in 1994 with a jaw-dropping wraparound cover by Joe Quesada and Jimmy Palmiotti, depicting Vampi bathing in blood represented by swaths of red foil. Vampirella lead the pack in the "bad girl" craze and consistently placed in Wizard Magazine's coveted top 10 lists for characters and hot titles.

For two and a half years, Sniegoski wrote almost all original Vampirella stories across the flagship series, spinoffs and crossovers. His epic run concluded with the Death & Destruction limited series co-written by Christopher Golden and featuring a breakout performance by artist Amanda Conner. Vampi went through her own epic deconstructive storyline in the 90's, similar to titans of the industry Superman, Batman and Spider-Man. Spoilers - she gets fatally impaled by Mistress Nyx's trident at the end! Though Warren Ellis and Conner jumped in with the follow up Vampirella Lives series, there was an epic finality to Death & Destruction that closed out the Sniegoski era. Until now...

Vampirella: Death & Destruction #3 (1996) - Amanda Conner
This October's Vengeance of Vampirella picks up from that finale, but 25 years later. With Earth's protector against the supernatural felled, humanity lives in ruins, subjugated by monstrosities ruled by Nyx and her Chaos Lords. Vampirella's martyrdom has achieved mythic status among the bands of rebels on the outskirts of society. Everything takes a turn when some think they may be able to resurrect their savior. But she doesn't come back all there at first... All readers will feel at home in this series - both longtime fans and newcomers who have recently joined with the massively successfuly flagship series by Christopher Priest.

To celebrate this special treat Dynamite has assembled their own Danse Macabre of beloved cover artists. Joshua Middleton (Aquaman, Martian Manhunter) leads the crew with his first ever cover for Dynamite! Perfectly complementing his gorgeous wraparound cover for Vampirella #1, Frank Cho (Harley Quinn, Red Sonja) contributes a cover incorporating his acclaimed ballpoint pen techniques and peerless cheesecake skills. Fellow superstars Ben Oliver (American Carnage) and Lucio Parrillo (Red Sonja Birth of the She-Devil) have painted covers as well. While Joanie Brosas, one of the most popular Vampirella cosplayers, steps in front of the camera for a cover.

Classic Vampi artist Buzz is also returning with a limited edition incentive cover, and shared this, "I’m as excited now as I was 25 years ago when my artwork helped relaunch Vampirella and forever attached me to this badass girl from Drakulon. It’s almost kismet that I’ve been invited to celebrate her 50th as I turn 50. We’re both back..with a VENGEANCE!"

"I'm very happy to be part of this book since I'm a huge fan of Vampirella!," said artist Michael Sta. Maria. "My career truly started the day I met Stephen Segovia – who has drawn Vampirella as well. Today he is my mentor, a good friend and a constant inspiration. I hope fans love my Vampi!"

"I could not be happier for Tom to return to Vampirella after all these years. And Tom returns with "a vengeance!". Seriously though, Tom continues to grow as a writer, and this series is just incredible as you'll see to how much he adds to the Vampirella mythos!," said Dynamite CEO and Publisher Nick Barrucci. "And wait until you see Michael Sta. Maria's art - just beautiful!"

The perfect complement to a new Vengeance of Vampirella #1 is of course the original Vengeance of Vampirella #1! Dynamite is also producing a limited Replica Edition of the original issue front to back. Including all the editorial and ad pages even! All under Quesada and Palmiotti's iconic cover!

Vengeance of Vampirella #1 and the Vengeance of Vampirella (1994) #1 Replica Edition will be solicited in Diamond Comic Distributors’ August 2019 Previews catalog, the premier source of merchandise for the comic book specialty market, and slated for release in October 2019. Comic book fans are encouraged to preorder copies with their local comic book retailers. It will also be available for individual customer purchase through digital platforms courtesy of Comixology, Kindle, iBooks, Google Play, Dynamite Digital, ComicsPlus, and more!

With Patrick Stewart now warping back to the Star Trek universe in CBS All Access' upcoming streaming series Picard, can a reunion with some of Jean-Luc Picard's old crewmates from the U.S.S. Enterprise also be in the cards?

"In Picard's? I'm sorry, what did you say? Oh, in the cards!" laughed a word-playing LeVar Burton, who co-starred with Stewart on Star Trek: The Next Generation for seven seasons, when CNN posed the question.

Burton, who played the starship's chief engineer Geordi La Forge, said he expected that he and the majority of his "TNG" castmates would eventually resurface in their former captain's life at various points.

"Each of us, I would say certainly, right?" said Burton. "It is unreasonable to assume that he doesn't know those people anymore, or that he stopped talking to them. And if he did there's good storytelling in why."

Screen Rant is reporting that for its coming Shang-Chi film, Marvel Studios is looking to cast its lead role soon, with only Chinese actors in contention.

With all three of 2019's Marvel Cinematic Universe installments officially released (the last being Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures' Spider-Man: Far From Home), fans are looking ahead at the wide open landscape of Phase 4. Bob Iger, CEO of Marvel's parent company Walt Disney Studios, promised fans that the upcoming MCU Phase 4 slate would be revealed this summer, and Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige has assured reporters on multiple occasions that announcements would be made following the release of Far From Home.

San Diego Comic Con would be a good start.

Fans know a little about what to expect from Phase 4. For its part, Shang-Chi will mark Marvel Studios' first feature with an Asian-American lead, and it appears the studio and the film's creatives are dedicated to making sure they do the superhero justice. Now, according to the latest reports, it seems Marvel Studios is moving quickly to cast the lead role of Shang-Chi, and they're being particular in their search for the next MCU hero.

Express is reporting that, with the 25th James Bond movie now in production being Daniel Craig’s last outing as the iconic super spy, theories are running rampant on who might pick up the license to kill next.

Reports claim that an early scene from the film will show M (Ralph Fiennes) summoning Bond -- whose retirement was alluded to at the end of Spectre -- to his office to drop the bombshell. He will be told that the character played by Lashana Lynch -- the actress who recently became a huge fan favorite as Maria Rambeau in Captain Marvel -- is replacing him in the secret service.

In the upcoming action flick, Lynch will be taking on the role of someone named Nomi, though we’ve been told next to nothing about the character just yet, leading to all sorts of speculation. She may in fact be our next 007.

Disney and Marvel’s box office leviathan collected another $2.8 million at the global box office this weekend, boosting ticket sales to a massive $2.78 billion worldwide. As it stands, Avengers: Endgame has generated $851 million at the domestic box office and $1.9 billion overseas. The superhero blockbuster had especially strong showings in China ($629 million), the United Kingdom ($114 million), Korea ($105 million), Brazil ($85 million) and Mexico ($77 million).
