ROBERT ZEMECKIS IN TALKS TO DIRECT LIVE-ACTION ‘PINOCCHIO’ FOR DISNEY
10/18/19 @ 6:48 pm EST
Source: Variety | Categories: Disney | Comments (0) | E-mail Article | Add a Comment

Robert Zemeckis

According to Variety, Robert Zemeckis is in early talks to direct Disney’s live-action Pinocchio.

Andrew Miano and Chris Weitz will produce through their company Depth of Field with Weitz penning the script.

Though a deal hasn’t closed yet, Zemeckis has been eyeing the project since this summer. He was still, however, working on his current pic The Witches for Warner Bros. and didn’t want to commit to a new film until The Witches made more progress in production. With that film in post-production now, Zemeckis began turning his sights on his next project, with Pinocchio high on his list.

The original animated movie tells the tale about a living puppet who, with the help of a cricket as his conscience, must prove himself worthy to become a real boy.

Disney continues to see its live-action adaptation strategy as a major part of its pipeline, with this year’s Aladdin and The Lion King both crossing the billion dollar milestone this year.
THE NEW SLAYER MAKES FIRST APPEARANCE IN 'BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER' #11
10/18/19 @ 6:43 pm EST
Source: BOOM! Studios | Categories: MIsc | Comments (0) | E-mail Article | Add a Comment

BOOM! Studios, in partnership with 20th Century Fox, revealed today that Kendra Young, the iconic Slayer, will make her full First Appearance in BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER #11, from acclaimed writer Jordie Bellaire (Redlands) and artist David López (Captain Marvel), along with visionary writer and director Joss Whedon (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Marvel’s The Avengers), available in January 2020.

With a NEW SLAYER in town, it's up to TEAM KENDRA to save the day! An evil and powerful magic from the open HELLMOUTH has taken over the men of Sunnydale, and it's up to Willow, Cordelia, and the new Chosen One, Kendra, to fend off the enthralled men of the town or there won't be a Sunnydale for Buffy to come back to! That is . . . if she's coming back at all.

BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER #11 features a main cover by Mondo illustrator Marc Aspinall, as well as variant covers by artists Kevin Wada (She-Hulk), Ryan Inzana (Ichiro), and Morgan Beem (The Family Trade), and a connecting variant cover by artist Steve Morris (The Magicians: Alice’s Story) that connects to ANGEL #8 and HELLMOUTH #4.

Created by visionary writer and director Joss Whedon (Marvel’s The Avengers film franchise), Angel premiered on the WB Network on October 5th, 1999 and was a spin-off from Buffy the Vampire Slayer. The series ran for five seasons from 1999–2004, starring David Boreanaz as Angel, the tortured vampire destined to walk the earth with a soul who moved to LA to set up shop as a supernatural private investigator. Despite Angel’s best efforts to deal with the sins of his past all by himself, Angel Investigations soon became home to other lost souls searching for redemption and willing to fight by his side.

BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER is the newest release from BOOM! Studios’ eponymous imprint, home to critically acclaimed original series, including Once & Future by Kieron Gillen and Dan Mora; Something is Killing the Children by James Tynion IV and Werther Dell’Edera; Faithless by Brian Azzarello and Maria Llovet; Abbott by Saladin Ahmed and Sami Kivelä; Bury The Lede by Gaby Dunn and Claire Roe; Klaus by Grant Morrison and Dan Mora; and Folklords by Matt Kindt and Matt Smith. The imprint also publishes popular licensed properties including Joss Whedon’s Firefly from Greg Pak and Dan McDaid; Angel from Bryan Edward Hill and Gleb Melnikov; and Mighty Morphin Power Rangers from Ryan Parrott and Daniele Di Nicuolo.

BOX OFFICE: 'MALEFICENT: MISTRESS OF EVIL' FLYING LOW WITH $35 MILLION OPENING
10/18/19 @ 6:40 pm EST
Source: Variety | Categories: Disney | Comments (0) | E-mail Article | Add a Comment

Variety reports that Angelina Jolie’s Maleficent: Mistress of Evil is heading for an opening weekend of about $35 million at 3,790 North American locations — significantly below forecasts, early estimates showed on Friday.

The fantasy sequel should still win the domestic weekend box office handily, denying Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker a third consecutive victory. Maleficent: Mistress of Evil will also top the launch of another sequel, Sony’s Zombieland: Double Tap, which is coming in above expectations at about $28 million in a battle for second with Joker.

Disney’s Maleficent: Mistress of Evil had been forecast to launch around $45 million this weekend. The original Maleficent debuted with $69 million at the domestic box office in 2014 and went on to become a box office smash, earning more than $750 million globally from a $180 million budget.
SUPERMAN WILL REVEAL HE’S CLARK KENT IN THE COMICS THIS DECEMBER
10/18/19 @ 6:37 pm EST
Source: Polygon | Categories: DC | Comments (0) | E-mail Article | Add a Comment

Image result for Superman gives up secret identity

This December, Superman will reveal to the world that he and mild-mannered reporter Clark Kent are one and the same. And, according to writer Brian Michael Bendis, it’s not a trick, a twist, a joke, or an alternate universe — it’ll be the new status quo of Superman.

It won’t be the first time Superman’s secret identity has been public knowledge. A 2015 story arc had Lois Lane out him as Clark Kent on the front page of the Daily Planet, but it didn’t last particularly long.

And this isn’t the first time Bendis has handled a big identity reveal with long-lasting consequences, either. Under his pen, Daredevil lost his secret identity for years, only reinstating it after some global mind-control shenanigans. And it seems like he means this one to also have wide-ranging ramifications.

Revealing that Clark Kent and Lois Lane, internationally recognized reporters for their work on Superman, are, in fact, Superman and Superman’s wife — would add some real professional headaches to Superman’s already full plate. But, it seems like Bendis — and the other writers currently working on Superman-adjacent books — are well aware of the ramifications and eager to explore them. (via Polygon)

The big change will happen in Superman #18, out on Dec. 11, and also tie in to December’s issue of Lois Lane #7, out on Dec. 1.

Naomie Harris Shriek

Variety reports that Naomie Harris is in talks to play Spider-Man villain Shriek in Sony’s Venom 2, with Tom Hardy returning as the titular anti-hero.

Andy Serkis is on board to direct, and Michelle Williams and Woody Harrelson are also reprising their roles.

The original film was a huge hit for the studio when it premiered in 2018, grossing $213 million at the domestic box office and a massive $855 million worldwide. It followed Hardy as Eddie Brock, a journalist who becomes host to the alien entity known as Venom.

Shriek is Carnage’s romantic interest in the comics so she’s bound to team with Harrelson in this movie to face off against Hardy’s Venom.

Sony had no comment on the casting negotiations.

Bless The Harts

Deadline reports that Fox has ordered a second season of its new half-hour animated comedy series Bless the Harts for premiere during the 2020-21 season. It marks the second freshman Fox series to get a pickup, following breakout new drama Prodigal Son, which got a full-season order with nine additional episodes.

Because of the nature of animated series, which need a long lead time, a back order for Bless the Harts was not an option, leaving renewal as the only pickup scenario.

Bless the Harts has not been a breakout and has done so-so retaining its The Simpsons lead-in. That is not unusual for animated comedy series; Fox’s Bob’s Burgers got off to an inauspicious start before becoming an Emmy-winning anchor of the network’s Sunday lineup. Fox brass are said to believe creatively in Bless the Harts, the first of a wave of new animated series ordered under Entertainment President Michael Thorn’s push in the area.

She joins Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard, who will reprise their roles from the previous films, as well as Sam Neill, Laura Dern and Jeff Goldblum, who starred in the original mega-hit Jurassic Park. Mamoudou Athie also recently joined the cast.

Colin Trevorrow, who helmed the first Jurassic World, is returning to direct the pic, which he co-wrote with Emily Carmichael. The script is based on a story by Trevorrow and Derek Connolly, who penned the previous two scripts.
