CASSIE HACK, THE KILLER OF UNDEAD KILLERS, SETS HER SIGHTS ON THE CROW
03/21/19 @ 8:35 pm EST
Source: IDW | Categories: IDW | Comments (0) | E-mail Article | Add a Comment

Hack/Slash creator Tim Seeley brings his singular vision of horror – and his unique version of the “Final Girl” – to IDW in The Crow: Hack/Slash, a comic book crossover debuting in June. Illustrated by Tim Seeley with inks by returning Crow artist Jim Terry, this four-issue miniseries sees fan-favorite femme fatale Cassie Hack on the trailer of an all-new Crow… one unlike any that fans have seen before!

In The Crow: Hack/Slash #1, a soul is brought back… but something is terribly wrong! The resurrected Angeles Cero won't stop killing on a quest for revenge, and the bodies are piling up. Now, slasher hunter Cassie Hack and her monstrous partner Vlad are on the trail of the Crow Killer, wrongly believing themselves in pursuit of a masked murderer they’ve hunted for years.

"The Crow defined me as a fan of the comics medium, but also introduced me to a whole world of music and fashion that I'd never had access to before – one that completely fit the attitude my teenage brain was desperately looking for,” says Tim Seeley. “It introduced me to the idea that comics could tell dark and personal stories full of pain and beauty. No doubt about it – without O'Barr's original The Crow, there would never have been a Hack/Slash. Mixing Cassie, Vlad, and The Crow has been in the making for 25 years, and my buddy Jim Terry and I cannot wait to unleash it on the world."

Jim Terry says, “O'Barr's The Crow was a turning point for me – his book brought me to indie comics and blew the doors off what I thought a comic could be. Years later, I'd become friends with James and eventually work on The Crow: Skinning the Wolves. It was my first published work and still among the best things I've done, and now I get to work in this universe again with my pal Tim Seeley. He's a clever writer and a gifted storyteller, so I'm excited to take this ride and push some artistic limits!”

Issue #1 will feature a regular cover by Tim Seeley, with a variant edition by Rebekah A. Isaacs (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) and a special “inked” variant by Seeley.

SHEENA SWINGS ONTO KICKSTARTER WITH J. SCOTT CAMPBELL STATUE!
03/21/19 @ 8:31 pm EST
Source: Dynamite | Categories: Dynamite | Comments (0) | E-mail Article | Add a Comment

Coinciding with the Chicago Comic & Entertainment Expo 2019 (C2E2), Dynamite Entertainment launches a Kickstarter for a stunning Sheena statue based on art by superstar J. Scott Campbell. Supporters can preorder their copies of the limited-edition piece for an advance lower price, choose from a variety of extras and most importantly, help decide which variants will be produced!

Support the Sheena Statue Kickstarter Here!

Sculptor Steve Kiwus has masterfully brought Campbell's gorgeous cover art from Sheena Queen of the Jungle #1 to three dimensions. The high-quality resin piece is at 1/6 scale and stands approximately 10.5 inches tall with a sturdy 7.25 inches wide base. Her intricate leopard print tunic and other details are hand painted.

Sheena, Queen of the Jungle is one of the most historically important characters in comic books. Predating the biggest superheroes in the business, Sheena was created by legends Will Eisner and Jerry Iger in 1937. The heroine became the flagship character of major publisher Fiction House, starring in top selling comics for over a decade with them. Including being the first heroine to have an eponymous series, beating Wonder Woman to the punch! She has continued to be published since, most recently by Dynamite in a critically acclaimed series by writers Marguerite Bennett (DC Comics Bombshells, Batwoman) and Christina Trujillo alongside artists Moritat (Harley Quinn, The Hellblazer) and Maria Laura Sanapo (Red Sonja & Vampirella Meet Betty & Veronica). Outside of comics, Sheena has starred on the small screen, silver screen and even inspired one of the most influential punk rock songs!

What about variants? Dynamite has a tradition of producing black and white versions of each statue, for collectors who value the way it accentuates the sculpt, want an extra or might even be ambitious painters themselves. For this piece, the black and white edition keeps certain accents painted, including Sheena's jewelry and her stark green eyes. This variant is sure to catch anyone's eye.

Supporters of this Kickstarter with pledges including a statue will be welcome to provide feedback and help choose another more drastic variant. One potential option is the "Classic" variant, altering Sheena's costume to more closely match her appearances in the Golden Age of comics, as drawn by good girl art masters like Matt Baker! Another option is the "Night Stalker" variant with a sleek paint scheme with shadow details. Click through to the campaign page to check out all the options.

Whether you're interested in a statue, multiple statues, or no statue at all, Sheena and J. Scott Campbell fans will find something to love among the rest of the rewards. For just a single dollar, fans can follow along with the backer exclusive campaign updates and receive Dynamite's eternal gratitude. At other affordable levels, digital and print versions of Sheena's comic adventures are available, including the two collections of her 11 issue series and the Lords of the Junglecrossover with Tarzan by Corrina Bechko (Planet of the Apes, Invisible Republic) and Roberto Castro (Turok, Red Sonja/Conan). That's over 400 pages of Sheena! Also available are signed issues by J. Scott Campbell, Artist Proof editions of Dynamite's last Campbell inspired statues for Vampirella and Dejah Thoris and even more surprises! Statue superfans can even check out a bountiful bundle of Dynamite statues for an impressive combined discount!

“Sheena has lone been regarded as the first comic book superheroine and the poster child of an entire beloved genre of fierce and beautiful jungle girls that have inspired men and women for over a century,” said Nick Barrucci, Dynamite CEO and Publisher. “We’ve been fortunate to add to that legend with talented writers and artists like J. Scott Campbell. Fans will love bringing this iconic image into the third dimension and into their collections, and we look forward to the fan support!”

MAJOR FIRST APPEARANCE IN BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER #4
03/21/19 @ 3:07 pm EST
Source: BOOM! Studios | Categories: MIsc | Comments (0) | E-mail Article | Add a Comment

BOOM! Studios today unveiled a first look at BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER #4, the shocking conclusion to the first arc of the highly praised reimagining of BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER that is sure to divide readers and surprise fans both old and new, in partnership with 20th Century Fox Consumer Products.

Eisner Award-nominated writer Jordie Bellaire (Redlands) and Russ Manning Award-winning artist Dan Mora (KlausSaban’s Go Go Power Rangers), along with series creator and story consultant Joss Whedon (the visionary writer/director behind FireflyMarvel’s The Avengers, and more), continue to reimagine the groundbreaking pop culture phenomenon in BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER #4.

Buffy Summers thinks she’s faced the worst Sunnydale has to offer – like the Mistress Dru and her mysterious ally Spike – but this is the moment that changes everything for her. One member of her newly formed Scooby Gang won’t survive Dru’s master plan – and the shocking first appearance of one of Joss Whedon’s most popular characters may not be enough to save the day. Not to mention Buffy’s got a date with Robin Wood that’s gonna be completely ruined now!

BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER #4 features a main cover by acclaimed Mondo illustrator Matthew Taylor, along with variant covers by fan favorite Kevin Wada (She-Hulk) and acclaimed illustrator Feifei Ruan (Jim Henson’s Storyteller).

“Every time Buffy thinks she’s got it figured out, a bomb gets dropped that changes everything, reinforcing her fears that she isn’t good enough, that the future is uncertain, and that she might not live long enough to put things right.” said Jeanine Schaefer, Executive Editor, BOOM! Studios. “Amidst this uncertainty, the explosive events that break into Buffy’s life will happen when she least expects them, leaving longtime fans and new readers stunned by the events unfolding behind Buffy’s back.”

Buffy The Vampire Slayer premiered on the WB Network on March 10th, 1997. The Emmy and Golden Globe-nominated series, which ran for seven seasons from 1997-2003, starred Sarah Michelle Gellar as “Buffy Summers.” Chosen to battle vampires, demons and other forces of darkness, Buffy was aided by her Watcher, Rupert Giles, and a circle of friends known as the “Scooby Gang.”

BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER #4 is the newest release from BOOM! Studios’ eponymous imprint, home to critically acclaimed original series, including Abbottfrom Saladin Ahmed and Sami Kivelä; Bone Parish from Cullen Bunn and Jonas Scharf; Grass Kings from Matt Kindt and Tyler Jenkins; and Klaus from Grant Morrison and Dan Mora. The imprint is also home to popular licensed properties including Joss Whedon’s Firefly from Greg Pak and Dan McDaid and Buffy The Vampire Slayer from Jordie Bellaire and Dan Mora.
