TWO SAY ‘I DO’ IN X-MEN GOLD, BUT NOT THE PAIR FANS WERE EXPECTING06/20/18 @ 8:39 pm EST
Since 2007, Dynamite Entertainment has been the home to many of the Golden Age of Comics' greatest heroes -- characters like Black Terror, the Green Lama, the Death-Defying Devil, Masquerade, The Owl, and dozens more -- in the pages of Project Superpowers
. Industry legends like Alex Ross, Jim Krueger, and Warren Ellis were among the many exceptional talents to reimagine these heroes for a modern audience, frequently in epic storylines with intense interpersonal intrigue and world-spanning stakes. Now, Dynamite welcomes aboard the incredible team of Ryan Browne (God Hates Astronauts
) and Pete Wood (Robin
), two creators who dare to deliver an altogether unexpected, satirical take on the classic superhero mythos with Project Superpowers: Hero Killers
Welcome to Libertyville, USA... home to too damn many superheroes! When all crime is soon eradicated, a handful of heroes leave for greener pastures, but most stay for the affordable housing, hoping to rise to the top and become the legendary hero who saved the world's greatest metropolis. Captain Battle Jr., Sparky, and an unfortunate crime-fighter named Tim try to stand out, but it's hard to do in a city full of capes stopping every misdemeanor with a spandex-wrapped flourish. Things get weird when these three lad companions try to get to the criminals before their bosses do!
Ryan Brown says, "These ain't your great-great-granddaddy's superheroes... unless your great-great-granddaddy is super-cool and has a wonderful sense of humor. Then these actually are your great-great-granddaddy's superheroes."
"We're taking characters and concepts that have been around since the beginning of comics and turning them upside down," says Pete Woods. "This is going to be a fun ride for the readers and the creators alike. I'm having a blast."
"One of the things we pride ourselves on with Project Superpowers
is the ability to bing in top creators and give them the ability to tell exactly the kind of superhero story that suits their tastes," says Dynamite CEO and publisher, Nick Barrucci. "When Ryan and Pete came up with a story to poke fun at superhero tropes with a witty take on the genre, we thought, 'Why not put it in the context our own universe for something wholly original?' This series is guaranteed to entertain any fan of superpowered storylines!"
"Taking a storied property and looking at it in a completely different way is always exciting, and doing it from a truly demented perspective is what helps me get out of bed in the morning. I'm up!" says Matt Idelson, Senior Editor.Project Superpowers: Hero Killers
#1 will be solicited in Diamond Comic Distributors' March 2017Previews
catalog, the premier source of merchandise for the comic book specialty market, and slated for release in May. Comic book fans are encouraged to reserve copies with their local comic book retailers. Project Superpowers: Hero Killers
will also be available for individual customer purchase through digital platforms courtesy of Comixology, Dynamite Digital, iVerse, and Dark Horse Digital.

But the stakes are raised so much higher when the ship is revealed to carry Vampirella, who is on a desperate mission of survival—one that might end before it truly begins!
“Not a lot of folks know this, but some of my earliest work in comics was an unpublished adaptation of A Princess of Mars
... I discovered Barsoom and Dejah Thoris then, and I’m ecstatic to not only play in that sandbox again but also introduce the princess to Vampirella!” says writer Erik Burnham.
"There’s so much love for both of these iconic characters, we wanted to wait for the right time with the right creative team to see a crossover come to life,” said Nick Barrucci, CEO and Publisher of Dynamite Entertainment. “Dejah Thoris

Created in 1969, Vampirella
has thrived for nearly 50 years delivering classic tales of terror in comics, graphic novels, and magazines. These cover images helped to define the horror comic genre with master illustrators like Frank Frazetta, Sanjulian, Bill Hughes, Jose Gonzalez, Enrich, Esteban Maroto, and Paul Gulacy, along with a host of other legendary contributing artists.

DYNAMITE DELIVERS JAMES BOND ORIGIN STORY06/20/18 @ 3:10 pm EST
Dynamite has partnered with Troma Entertainment, the original media disruptor and longest-lasting independent film company, to deliver an art book not for the faint of heart hitting shelves in September!
Written by New York Times Bestselling author and Troma aficionado Fred Van Lente (Archer & Armstrong, Cowboys and Aliens), this incredible 256-page collection features never-before-seen film stills, rare posters, candid interviews, and buckets and buckets and BUCKETS of fake blood.
“I had a really terrific time delving into the history of one of the richest stories in all of independent American movies. The book has turned out spectacularly, thanks to the incredible work of designer Jon Adams,” remarked author Fred Van Lente. “None of it would have been possible without Lloyd Kaufman, Michael Herz and the Troma staff opening up their forty-year-plus archive to us, so big thanks to them. This book is a juicy distillation of a studio that's entertained its fans and pissed-off establishment types for decades.”
For over forty years, Troma Studios has blazed its own bloody, slime-covered trail, making movies their own damn way. From The Toxic Avenger to The Class Of Nuke ‘Em High to Poultrygeist to Tromeo And Juliet, Lloyd Kaufman never compromised, waving his independent freak-flag freely, and helped jumpstart the careers of luminaries such as James Gunn, Trey Parker, Eli Roth, Oliver Stone and countless others.
“This has been an incredible fun project to work on. I have a lot of respect for everything they’ve been able to do over the years,” said Nick Barrucci, CEO and Publisher of Dynamite Entertainment. “They've had so many great talents come out of their stable throughout their history as the biggest cult filmmakers in the world, they’re finally getting their due.”
The Art of Troma will hit shelves in both hardcover and limited editions. The limited version of the hardcover book comes in a VHS-themed slipcase and features both a print signed by Lloyd Kaufman and a supplemental book featuring art from Troma fans.
The Art of Troma and The Art of Troma Limited Edition will be solicited in Diamond Comic Distributors' July 2018 Previews catalog, the premier source of merchandise for the comic book specialty market, and slated for release in September 2018. Comic book fans are encouraged to reserve copies of The Art of Troma with their local comic book retailers.

THE INFINITY WARPS!06/20/18 @ 2:46 pm EST
A few weeks ago, while attending the Download music festival, British comic book writer Leah Moore suffered a brain injury.
Leah’s medical costs will covered by the NHS but their friend Andrew O’Neill has begun a JustGiving page to help her and her family out with other living costs at this time
"Leah and John [Reppion] are comic book writers, who usually scrape by on caffeine and stress while creating wonderful art. Recently, they have been beset by brutal circumstances – John recently lost his sister Dawn and Leah has sustained a severe and degenerative brain injury at Download (metal!) and has had an operation to remove a blood clot.
"Needless to say, their already fragile and insecure method of putting food on the table for themselves and their three kids (two feral) is going to be impossible while Leah recovers and John looks after her.
"As an artistic community and bunch of pals, let’s raise some money to help them through, (and then we can use our generosity later on as leverage for favours and cake).

BOOM! STUDIOS EARNS TWO 2018 RUSS MANNING PROMISING NEWCOMER AWARD NOMINATIONS06/20/18 @ 2:36 pm EST
One of the most iconic comic-strip heroes of all time is back in action, courtesy of IDW Publishing’s new series, Dick Tracy: Dead or Alive
! Reimagined for the 21st century through a retro lens by the superstar team of Michael Allred
, Lee Allred
, Rich Tommaso,
and Laura Allred
, the four-issue miniseries launches in September… so criminals had best beware!
In Dick Tracy: Dead or Alive
, the All-American
detective just made the biggest collar of his career… and it only cost him his job. Now, the honest cop has packed his bags for “the city by the lake,” and its criminal community is firmly in his sights! Featuring cover art and co-written by Eisner Award-winning superstar Michael Allred (Madman
, Silver Surfer
), the new series features strange villains, crooked cops, and gunfights galore.
“Dick Tracy is an instantly recognizable old-school icon, like Mickey Mouse and Superman, but he’s been out of the spotlight awhile and due for a curtain call. We want to shake it up and show the glow in the 21st Century,” says Michael Allred. “I always get a big kick working with my first-ever collaborator and big brother, Lee Allred, as well as my favorite colorist and favorite wife, Laura. But I’m crazy excited about working with Rich Tommaso! He is one of the most innovative and thrilling cartoonists working in comics. I’m lit up with giddy shock that he’s letting me slop ink on his beautifully rendered pencils, keeping me on my toes to do the work justice on this thrilling series!”
Co-writer Lee Allred says, “Dead or Alive
pits Dick Tracy, champion of Law and Order, against not only brutal crime bosses but the corrupted forces of the Law itself. Every hand, cop, and crook will be against Tracy as he battles the enemies of true justice. With Rich, Mike, and Laura as the art team, classic crime drama has never looked so good.”
"I am thrilled to try my hand at drawing this legendary, pulpy, hardboiled crime classic,” says penciller Rich Tommaso (Spy Seal
, Dry County
). “Along with Roy Crane, Milton Caniff, Noel Sickles, Jack Cole, and Alex Toth, Chester Gould is a cartoonist that I am perpetually inspired by when I’m working on my own crime stories. So, this is a project that I feel is well within my wheelhouse. The Dick Tracy
cast of characters makes this comic so much fun to draw on a daily basis. I only hope we can all bring something great to the comic ourselves while, simultaneously keeping true to its origins. Not an easy feat to be sure, but I feel it’s damn worth a try."
Since 1931, Chester Gould’s Dick Tracy
has thrilled millions with tales of good guys versus bad guys, while showcasing the latest criminology techniques and old-fashioned values. Throughout the years, the quintessential detective had numerous partners and sent thousands of rogues either to the slammer or their graves, but there were always more bizarre, out-of-this-world villains (with funny names and hideous faces) to pursue.
