FROM THE PAGES OF DYNAMITE ENTERTAINMENT'S PROJECT SUPERPOWERS COMES HERO KILLERS
02/22/17 @ 3:51 pm EST
Source: Dynamite | Categories: Dynamite | Comments (0) | E-mail Article | Add a Comment

Since 2007, Dynamite Entertainment has been the home to many of the Golden Age of Comics' greatest heroes -- characters like Black Terror, the Green Lama, the Death-Defying Devil, Masquerade, The Owl, and dozens more -- in the pages of Project Superpowers. Industry legends like Alex Ross, Jim Krueger, and Warren Ellis were among the many exceptional talents to reimagine these heroes for a modern audience, frequently in epic storylines with intense interpersonal intrigue and world-spanning stakes. Now, Dynamite welcomes aboard the incredible team of Ryan Browne (God Hates Astronauts) and Pete Wood (Robin, Deadpool), two creators who dare to deliver an altogether unexpected, satirical take on the classic superhero mythos with Project Superpowers: Hero Killers.

Welcome to Libertyville, USA... home to too damn many superheroes! When all crime is soon eradicated, a handful of heroes leave for greener pastures, but most stay for the affordable housing, hoping to rise to the top and become the legendary hero who saved the world's greatest metropolis. Captain Battle Jr., Sparky, and an unfortunate crime-fighter named Tim try to stand out, but it's hard to do in a city full of capes stopping every misdemeanor with a spandex-wrapped flourish. Things get weird when these three lad companions try to get to the criminals before their bosses do!

Ryan Brown says, "These ain't your great-great-granddaddy's superheroes... unless your great-great-granddaddy is super-cool and has a wonderful sense of humor. Then these actually are your great-great-granddaddy's superheroes."

"We're taking characters and concepts that have been around since the beginning of comics and turning them upside down," says Pete Woods. "This is going to be a fun ride for the readers and the creators alike. I'm having a blast."

"One of the things we pride ourselves on with Project Superpowers is the ability to bing in top creators and give them the ability to tell exactly the kind of superhero story that suits their tastes," says Dynamite CEO and publisher, Nick Barrucci. "When Ryan and Pete came up with a story to poke fun at superhero tropes with a witty take on the genre, we thought, 'Why not put it in the context our own universe for something wholly original?' This series is guaranteed to entertain any fan of superpowered storylines!"

"Taking a storied property and looking at it in a completely different way is always exciting, and doing it from a truly demented perspective is what helps me get out of bed in the morning. I'm up!" says Matt Idelson, Senior Editor.

Project Superpowers: Hero Killers #1 will be solicited in Diamond Comic Distributors' March 2017Previews catalog, the premier source of merchandise for the comic book specialty market, and slated for release in May. Comic book fans are encouraged to reserve copies with their local comic book retailers. Project Superpowers: Hero Killers will also be available for individual customer purchase through digital platforms courtesy of Comixology, Dynamite Digital, iVerse, and Dark Horse Digital.

CULLEN BUNN & BLACKY SHEPHERD CONJURE 'VAMPIRELLA VS. REANIMATOR'
09/18/18 @ 1:33 pm EST
Source: Dynamite | Categories: Dynamite | Comments (0) | E-mail Article | Add a Comment

Dynamite Entertainment announced today the creative team of Cullen Bunn (Pumpkinhead, Deadpool) and Blacky Shepherd (Pumpkinhead, Voltron) will be squaring off two horror icons this winter with Vampirella vs. ReAnimator! It's vampire versus mad scientist in a battle that threatens to tear the gates of the underworld asunder!

In Vampirella vs. ReAnimator, Herbert West--the ReAnimator--has long sought the secret to perfecting his reagent and break death’s hold on mankind once and for all. The key to his success lies in only one place--the forbidden tomb of the Aztec god of death! But disturbing sleeping gods is as troubling (to put it mildly) as raising the uncontrollable, murderous dead... especially when this deity is an ancient enemy of Vampirella of Drakulon!

“I just thought it was a great fit. I was attending a horror convention and talking with people and the idea just popped into my head,” said artist Blacky Shepherd. “Within an hour or so I had a rough idea of the story. At first, I thought they were such a natural fit that Dynamite must have already crossed the two characters over!”

“Here’s something I think about a lot when it comes to these two characters. When I was a kid reading Vampirella magazines at the drug store… and later when I rented ReAnimator on VHS for the first time… I felt like I was doing something I shouldn’t be,” added author Cullen Bunn. “There’s something… subversive about both characters, and I want to play that up. I want to lean into that feeling with this book”

“Hands down this is a really cool cross-over with these two characters. Blacky’s pitch was perfect and both Cullen and his work on our Pumpkinhead series was fantastic. They took great care of such a classic character that we wanted them to do more,” said Nick Barrucci, CEO and Publisher of Dynamite Entertainment. “Having these two incredibly talented horror aficionados on this crossover event is going to have fans raving.”

Dynamite Entertainment first published ReAnimator with a #0 issue leading into a cross-over with the Army of Darkness line, and then followed up with a standalone miniseries in 2015. Vampirella has been part of Dynamite’s core publishing lineup since 2004. First created in 1969, Vampirella has thrived for nearly 50 years delivering classic tales of terror in comics, graphic novels, and magazines.

The first issue of Vampirella vs. ReAnimator delivers a wide selection of cover variants, providing fans and retailers a chance to collect the whole set! The cover artwork features the talents of Johnny Desjardins (Barbarella), Stuart Sayger (ROM), Blacky Shepherd (Voltron), and a cosplay cover respectively. Additionally, an Atlas Edition will also be available for fans wishing to have their issue signed by writer Cullen Bunn!

Vampirella vs. ReAnimator #1 will be solicited in Diamond Comic Distributors' October 2018 Previews catalog, the premier source of merchandise for the comic book specialty market, and slated for release in December 2018. Comic book fans are encouraged to reserve copies of Vampirella vs. ReAnimator with their local comic book retailers. Vampirella vs. ReAnimator will also be available for individual customer purchase through digital platforms courtesy of Comixology, Kindle, iBooks, Google Play, Dynamite Digital, iVerse, Madefire, and Dark Horse Digital.

TIM SEELEY DELIVERS MAYHEM WITH HACK/SLASH VS. CHAOS!
09/18/18 @ 1:27 pm EST
Source: Dynamite | Categories: Dynamite | Comments (0) | E-mail Article | Add a Comment

Dynamite Entertainment announces a major crossover event as Tim Seeley returns to his beloved creations to pit them against the world's greatest horror universe and brings back some of the series' most beloved slashers. Alongside artist Rapha Lobosco, Seeley’s Hack/Slashbattle the Chaos! Comics characters in Hack/Slash vs. Chaos!

In Hack/Slash vs. Chaos!, Cassie Hack, Slasher Hunter Supreme, thought she'd gotten rid of those teenager-perforating undead menaces. But now they're suddenly springing back to life! Cassie and Vlad are going to have to team up with mega-death dispenser Evil Ernie to stop the slaughter, putting them on a path that appears to lead through Chastity, the Chosen, and Purgatori.

Commenting on his upcoming crossover, author Tim Seeley remarked, “I bought the very first Evil Ernie series off the shelf when I was a teenager. It was black and white and gritty looking...it felt like something I wasn't supposed to show anyone else. Perfectly scary and creepy. Which I loved. I still think of Chaos! in those terms. These are the comics that you hide under your bed. They're just for you.”

“We've been waiting for the right story before publishing a new Chaos! series, and we knew we have it with Tim (Seeley), who is a true modern master of terror. And his script is perfectly paired with Rapha Lobosco’s art, which blows us away with every new page,” said Nick Barrucci, CEO and Publisher of Dynamite Entertainment. “ It's great to come full circle with Tim with this new event mini-series as he helped relaunch the Chaos! universe when we first began publishing them. Everything about this book is blood-soaked and beautiful.”

Chaos! Comics were first published in 1994 and ran until 2002. Dynamite Entertainment reignited the characters when they returned to comics in 2014 with Hack/Slash writer Tim Seeley at the helm in the first self-titled series, Chaos! Comics.

The first issue of Hack/Slash vs. Chaos! delivers a wide selection of cover variants, providing fans and retailers a chance to collect the whole set! The cover artwork features the talents of Tim Seeley (Injustice), Craig Cermak (Red Team), Kyle Strahm (Pumpkinhead), respectively. Additionally, a blank Authentix cover will be available for fans wishing to commission their favorite artist to sketch their best Hack/Slash or Chaos! Comics character. An Atlas Edition will also be available for fans wishing to have their issue signed by writer Tim Seeley!

Hack/Slash vs. Chaos! #1 will be solicited in Diamond Comic Distributors' October 2018 Previews catalog, the premier source of merchandise for the comic book specialty market, and slated for release in December 2018. Comic book fans are encouraged to reserve copies of Hack/Slash vs. Chaos! with their local comic book retailers. Hack/Slash vs. Chaos! will also be available for individual customer purchase through digital platforms courtesy of Comixology, Kindle, iBooks, Google Play, Dynamite Digital, iVerse, Madefire, and Dark Horse Digital.

IMAGE COMICS TO PUBLISH JESUSFREAK—AN ORIGINAL GRAPHIC NOVEL BY JOE CASEY & BENJAMIN MARRA
09/18/18 @ 12:09 pm EST
Source: Image | Categories: Image | Comments (0) | E-mail Article | Add a Comment

Next spring, Image Comics presents JESUSFREAK, an all-new, never-before-published and sure-to-be-controversial original graphic novel by writer Joe Casey and artist Benjamin Marra.

JESUSFREAK is a bloody, two-fisted tale of heroic historical fiction featuring a certain young Nazarean carpenter who is having some trouble finding his place within a world of ever-increasing violence. He knows he’s different… he just doesn’t know why. Image Comics will publish the original graphic novel as a 64-page, full-color hardcover retailing for $17.99 in comic book stores on March 20, 2019 and in bookstores on March 26, 2019.“JESUSFREAK is less inspired by any strict religious traditions and is instead more concerned with exploring the unique tension that exists between depicting a mythical figure and a historical figure—a tension that is compounded when, for many, they're considered the same person,” said writer and co-creator Joe Casey. “It’s also a chance for Marra and I to indulge in a specific style of hard pulp storytelling that we think perfectly fits this material.”

"I’ve followed Joe Casey’s career as a writer for over a decade, and so I jumped at the opportunity to work with him and to push myself as an artist into unfamiliar areas with this book,” said artist and co-creator Benjamin Marra. “My aim with JESUSFREAK is to channel the energy and storytelling of artists like Paul Gulacy, Frank Miller, and Klaus Janson to deliver a very different kind of historical fiction.”

An exclusive 16-page black-and-white ashcan preview of JESUSFREAK, featuring a two-color cover, will be available for purchase for $1.00 at the Image Comics booth (#1444) at New York Comic Con. Joe Casey and Benjamin Marra will attend the convention, which will be held at the Javits Center in New York City from Thursday, October 4th through Sunday, October 7.

JESUSFREAK (ISBN: 978-1534311749) can be ordered on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Books-a-Million, IndieBound, and Indigo.

EZRA CLAYTAN DANIELS EMBARKS ON NATIONWIDE BOOK TOUR!

Source: Lion Forge | Categories: MIsc | Comments (0) | E-mail Article | Add a Comment

In conjunction with the release of Ezra Claytan Daniels’s Upgrade Soul, for which he was the recipient of the 2017 Dwayne McDuffie Award for Diversity in Comics, Lion Forge announces his book release and signing this Saturday at premier independent Black-owned bookstore, Eso Won, followed by a nationwide book tour next month accompanied by Ignatz and DiNKy Award–winner Ben Passmore.

For their 45th anniversary, Hank and Molly Nonnar decide to undergo an experimental rejuvenation procedure, but their hopes for youth are dashed when the couple is faced with the results: severely disfigured yet intellectually and physically superior duplicates of themselves. Can the original Hank and Molly coexist in the same world as their clones? This page-turning graphic novel follows Hank and Molly as they discover the brutal reality that only one version of themselves is fated to survive.

“The only reason I make comics is to reach people, but the other half of that is letting people respond,” says Upgrade Soul creator Ezra Claytan Daniels. “That’s the best part about going on tour, and with Ben riding shotgun, there’ll be no shortage of discourse and adventure.”

Ezra’s cross-country signing tour with Your Black Friend artist Ben Passmore kicks off at the legendary Philadelphia comic book store Amalgam Comics & Coffeehouse just before New York Comic Con on October 3.

Following that, Ezra will appear in the Lion Forge Booth #1936 at New York Comic Con before embarking on this national book tour.

Friday, October 5, 2018, 5:00 PM – 6:00 PM

Sunday, October 7, 2018, 2:00 PM – 3:00 PM

After NYCC, the book tour will continue on to Pittsburgh at the Copacetic Comics Company, followed by stops in Chicago, St. Louis, Overland Park, Sioux City, Omaha, Salt Lake City, San Francisco, Oakland, and Portland.

Ezra and Ben’s full itinerary of events can be found via the Team Tan US Tour Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/tours/236374807229720/

Look for additional stops and appearances to be announced in the coming weeks.

Upgrade Soul is released in finer bookstores everywhere today, September 18, and further info on this weekend’s event at Eso Won can be found here:

BOOM! STUDIOS UNVEILS FIREFLY #2 VARIANT COVERS BY JOE QUIñONES

Source: BOOM! Studios | Categories: MIsc | Comments (0) | E-mail Article | Add a Comment

BOOM! Studios today unveiled the newest #MalCrushMonday debut, spotlighting FIREFLY #2 in December 2018 and continuing the return of the iconic worldwide pop culture phenomenon to comic books in partnership with 20th Century Fox Consumer Products.

This spotlight on FIREFLY #2 concludes with the reveal of the main cover by artist Joe Quiñones (America) with a new image everyone’s favorite interstellar couple – Zoe and Wash. Now, fans will learn his true past and the definitive story of the Unification War — the intergalactic civil war that divided friend and family alike — in this news series by New York Times best-selling writer Greg Pak (World War Hulk, Mech Cadet Yu) and artist Dan McDaid (Judge Dredd), along with series creator & story consultant Joss Whedon (the visionary writer/director behind Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Marvel’s The Avengers and more).

Plus, ask your local comic shop how to get a copy of the rare inks-only version of the FIREFLY #2 Joe Quiñones cover.

“There’s no shortage of threats and enemies to be found ‘round the ‘Verse, but in all the chaos the core of the story is love and family and what you would do for both,” said Jeanine Schaefer, Executive Editor, BOOM! Studios. “Joe perfectly captures the blueprint for that in Zoe and Wash’s relationship in one image, from their genuine affection and respect for each other, to the ever-looming presence of Mal as they try to find their shared path forward.”

Created by Whedon and set 500 years in the future in the wake of a universal civil war, FIREFLY centers on the crew of Serenity, a small transport spaceship that doesn't have a planet to call home. Mal, a defeated soldier who opposed the unification of the planets by the totalitarian governed Alliance, will undertake any job—legal or not—to stay afloat and keep his crew fed. Thrust together by necessity but staying together out of loyalty, these disparate men and women are seeking adventure and the good life, but face constant challenges on the new frontier, such as avoiding capture by the Alliance, and evading the dangers you find on the fringes of the universe.

Mal thought he could outrun his past, but when a simple mission goes wrong, he’s forced to confront it in the form of the Unificators, mercenaries deputized to hunt down war criminals...and they’ve got Mal and Zoe at the top of their list! War can make villains of even the best men, and Mal’s quest for redemption will put him at odds with his own crew, forcing him to make a choice: fix the past or fight for the future.

FIREFLY #2 is available exclusively in comic shops in December 2018, with a main cover by Lee Garbett (Skyward, Bone Parish) and a variant cover by and variant cover by Marguerite Sauvage (Faith).

FIREFLY is the latest release from BOOM! Studios’ eponymous imprint, home to a world-class group of licensed comic book series and ambitious original series, including Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, Planet of the Apes, Abbott, Victor LaValle’s Destroyer, Mech Cadet Yu, Grass Kings, and Klaus.

GRANT MORRISON & DAN MORA’S KLAUS RETURNS IN DECEMBER FROM BOOM! STUDIOS
09/18/18 @ 12:29 pm EST
Source: BOOM! Studios | Categories: MIsc | Comments (0) | E-mail Article | Add a Comment

BOOM! Studios today announced KLAUS AND THE CRYING SNOWMAN #1, the next chapter in the Eisner Award-nominated bold reimagining of the Santa Claus mythology for modern audiences from visionary writer Grant Morrison (Green Lantern, All Star Superman) and superstar artist Dan Mora (Power Rangers: Shattered Grid), debuting in December 2018.

Santa Claus is a myth. He’s a legend. He’s loved worldwide by children and adults alike . . . but does anyone truly know his origin and greatest adventures? Launching in 2015, Klaus has revealed this hidden history, from a dark fantastic past of myth and magic, to modern stories of holiday cheer and terror.

KLAUS AND THE CRYING SNOWMAN #1 continues the annual holiday tradition of new Klaus comic book releases, dating back to the franchise launch. Now, Klaus must help an absentee dad-turned-snowman make amends before melting away for good. And probably before he's defeated by a pantheon of Norse Gods and their minions.

All in a day’s work for Santa Claus, right?

“'It's beginning to look a lot like doomsday... in the 2018 Klaus Christmas special!” said writer Grant Morrison. “Working with Dan Mora and BOOM! Studios on these annual adventures of everyone's favorite sword-slinging immortal gift-giver is more fun than a flying sleigh ride through the Aurora Borealis! Dan has rapidly established himself as one of my all-time favorite collaborators and this year he excels himself yet again as Klaus and his allies face the apocalyptic return of the beings who destroyed the Norse Gods! Can Klaus, his white wolf Lilli, and superhuman comrades including the Romanian Communist Santa Claus Mos Gerila, prevent the end of days and the ultimate destruction of Christmas as a concept? What do you think?”

“It's that time of the year, another Klaus Christmas Special that will allow you to experience the Santa Claus story in different and mysterious ways,” said artist Dan Mora. “This is the fourth year we've been working on the series, and returning each year to work with Grant and the team is an honor and a pleasure. Grant has created another crazy, amazing story this year for the demigod Klaus and his wolf sidekick, and it's a rewarding, never-ending challenge to try and keep up with Grant's imagination as I visually bring this world to life!”

KLAUS AND THE CRYING SNOWMAN #1 features a main cover and a variant cover both illustrated by Mora.

“It wouldn’t be the holidays without some snow, good cheer…and a brand-newKlaus story that will blow you away,” said Eric Harburn, Senior Editor, BOOM! Studios. “This year, Grant and Dan pull out all the stops with a sci-fi/fantasy adventure that takes Klaus from Ragnarok all the way to the outer rings of Saturn, facing his biggest threat yet.”

KLAUS AND THE CRYING SNOWMAN is the latest release from BOOM! Studios’ eponymous imprint, home to a world-class group of licensed comic book series and ambitious original series, including Joss Whedon’s Firefly, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, WWE, Planet of the Apes, Abbott, Mech Cadet Yu, Grass Kings, and Bone Parish.

Print copies of KLAUS AND THE CRYING SNOWMAN #1 will be available for sale in December 2018 at local comic book shops or at the BOOM! Studios webstore. Digital copies can be purchased from content providers, including comiXology, iBooks, Google Play, and the BOOM! Studios app.

Additionally, KLAUS: THE NEW ADVENTURES OF SANTA CLAUS, an all new hardcover collection of the titular hero’s acclaimed holiday specials, will be available for sale in comic shops on September 26th and in bookstores on October 2nd.KLAUS: HOW SANTA CLAUS BEGAN, the hardcover collection of the original award-winning series, is currently available everywhere books are sold.
