IDW Publishing proudly embarks on the U.S.S. Enterprise’shomeward journey with Star Trek: Year Five, a monthly comic book series debuting in April 2019. A sweeping space odyssey developed by a brain trust of exceptional writers, Year Five welcomes co-writers Jackson Lanzing, Collin Kelly, and artist Stephen Thompson for its opening story arc, and – painting Star Trek for the first time in all his 60 years of professional illustration – Greg Hildebrandt as cover artist for the debut issue.
'THE DARK CRYSTAL: AGE OF RESISTANCE' RETURNS TO THRA IN NEW FEATURETTE08/20/19 @ 10:28 pm EST
In Star Trek: Year Five, the crew of the Enterprise have traveled to strange new worlds, defeated impossible foes, and made universe-changing decisions. But with the end in sight, they’ll have to face their biggest challenge yet. Step aboard the Enterprise with Kirk, Spock, Bones, and Uhura on a voyage towards an uncertain future!
“Year Five will be a vital, hard-hitting, character-focused look at Captain Kirk on his last year in command,” says Jackson Lanzing. “His actions will have huge ripple effects, from the outbreak of war in the Alpha Quadrant to an unprecedented strain of trust with Spock. We'll turn a mirror on our modern society, just as Trekdid in the 1960s, and go boldly towards meaningful, heartfelt stories.”
IDW’s continuing Star Trek: Year Five series, under license by CBS Consumer Products, will be nurtured by a collaborative writer’s room (including Brandon Easton, Jody Houser, Jim McCann, and the aforementioned Lanzing and Kelly), working together to craft the overall journey while swapping writing chores specific to each story arc. As Lanzing explains, “We'll tell an ongoing narrative with a beginning, a game-changing middle, and a definite end… and do so with some of the best writers in comics contributing their unique, diverse voices and ideas.”
“The opportunity to be a part of this monumental legacy is an unbelievable trust. With Year Five, we don't just want to thrill – we want to channel the power of Roddenberry's original vision, to tell a story about the future that illuminates our present,” says Collin Kelly. “It's time for the Enterprise to come home… but first, they'll have to face an enemy that's been waiting in the shadows since 1968.”
“I have been a fan of Star Trek right from the beginning in 1966,” says Greg Hildebrandt. “I admired the social, moral, and political statements that were obvious in Gene Roddenberry’s plot lines. I feel that the original was and is one of the best shows ever on TV, and clearly the inspiration for all the Space Operas that have followed. It was an honor to paint this cover art of the original cast. Having never painted Trekbefore, it was a kick for me at 80 years old.”
Reinforcing the importance of Hildebrandt’s first-ever contribution to the iconic Star Trek franchise, IDW will also proudly showcase this impactful illustration as the cover to the April 2019 edition of Previews, the internationally-distributed catalog that serves as the premier source of merchandise for the comic book specialty market.

'Y THE LAST MAN' CASTS MONKEY FROM 'FRIENDS' AS CAPUCHIN AMPERSAND08/20/19 @ 10:14 pm EST
Disney is pushing Cruella
from Dec. 23, 2020, to May 28, 2021, the beginning of the lucrative Memorial Day weekend, THR
Emma Stone stars as Cruella de Vil, the villain of the 1961 animated classic 101 Dalmatians.
It's not a surprise that Disney is moving Cruella, since Steven Spielberg's West Side Story — another property inherited in its deal with Fox — is set to open over Christmas 2020.

‘RIVERDALE’ FINDS BAD GUY FOR ARCHIE IN JUAN RIEDINGER08/20/19 @ 10:05 pm EST
When FX CEO John Landgraf was reviewing dailies on the network's highly anticipated adaptation of Brian K. Vaughan's beloved graphic novel Y: The Last Man
, he instantly recognized the face of one of the actors. In fact, he was convinced it was someone he worked with on Friends
during his stint running the current department at NBC.
Turns out, Landgraf was right — the pet monkey he saw onscreen starring opposite Y
lead Barry Keoghan was in fact the same monkey from Friends
. In real life, she's a female named Katie, but for Y
she’s playing the opposite sex.
The story centers on Keoghan’s Yorick Brown, the last surviving man on Earth, who is on a mission to find out why the male population has been wiped out. His primate companion, Ampersand (Katie), is the only other male mammal to have survived the plague.THR
checked in with representatives for Katie’s animal trainer, who confirmed the casting as well as her age: She’s currently in her mid- to late 20s and still has plenty of career left as capuchin monkeys can live to the ripe old age of 40.
But there’s one hitch. Although Katie has already filmed her part in the pilot, the show has weathered changes at the top with showrunners Aida Croal and Michael Green being replaced by Eliza Clark. Because of the swap, it’s unclear if Katie will continue on the project or if she’ll be replaced by a CGI version by the time the show debuts in 2020.

Deadline'JOKER' DIRECTOR SAYS THE MOVIE COULD GET A SEQUEL08/20/19 @ 3:00 pm EST
is reporting exclusively that Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige won’t produce any further Spider-Man
films because of an inability by Disney and Sony Pictures to reach new terms that would have given the former a co-financing stake going forward.
A dispute that has taken place over the past few months at the top of Disney and Sony has essentially nixed Feige, and the future involvement of Marvel from the Spider-Man universe, the site reports.
There is a lot of webbing here, but it all comes down to money. Disney asked that future Spider-Man films be a 50/50 co-financing arrangement between the studios, and there were discussions that this might extend to other films in the Spider-Man universe. Sony turned that offer down. Led by Tom Rothman and Tony Vinciquerra, Sony just simply didn’t want to share its biggest franchise. Sony proposed keeping the arrangement going under the current terms where Marvel receives in the range of 5% of first dollar gross, sources said. Disney refused.
Sources said Disney’s top brass for the past several months has sought new terms for Feige and the Marvel cross-pollination to continue. As the Spider-Man relationship grew, Feige and Sony Pictures chief Tom Rothman spoke about the possibility of a wider involvement in the Sony-controlled Spider-Man universe, which contains 900 characters.
No comment to Deadline's report from Marvel/Disney, Feige or Sony Pictures.

Joker is a first for DC Films as it’ll break out of the continuity of the DCEU and tell its own standalone take on the Clown Prince of Crime’s origins, untethered to any need to start or continue a franchise. Well, at least that’s what we thought.NEW 'RAMBO: LAST BLOOD' TRAILER RELEASED08/20/19 @ 2:49 pm EST
Director Todd Phillips has now revealed that he’s not ruling out following up Joker with a sequel. With one stipulation, that is: leading man Joaquin Phoenix has to return.
In an interview, Phillips was asked about the chances of a Joker 2. The director didn’t commit to anything, obviously, but did make clear that if all of the elements aligned so that the opportunity was there, he’d definitely hop back in the saddle to make another. (via We Got This Covered)
But first, we need to see how Joker fares when it hits theaters on October 4th.
