IDW GAMES ANNOUNCES AMOEBA TABLETOP GAME
01/10/19 @ 9:59 pm EST
Source: IDW | Categories: IDW | Comments (0) | E-mail Article | Add a Comment

Get ready for infectious fun as IDW Games is releasing Amoeba, a tile-laying game by HG Game Worx Studio! Amoeba is a unique tile-laying game for two to four players in which players draw and place tiles in order to build the biggest Amoebas. Set to release this summer, Amoeba will certainly spread the fun all over your gaming table!

Amoeba is the type of game that really gets under your skin!” says Jerry Bennington, IDW Publishing’s VP of New Product Development, “Heidi and Greg Preslicka created a timeless, evergreen design and the colorful, quirky art by Sebastian Koziner and Greg Preslicka make the game ooze right off the table. This is the type of game we see taking over the minds of gamers of all ages for a long time."

Amoeba sees players placing tiles to a shared board connecting edges to form different-sized amoebas. The goal of the game is to capture as many amoeba segments as possible by placing Nuclei markers on them. The twist to the game is players may use tiles from their hand to split completed Amoebas and hurt their opponents' scores. This simple wrinkle adds wonderful tension and endless replayability to a game that can be learned in minutes but stays with you for so much longer.

Look for Amoeba to hit stores in May 2019.

DYNAMITE PRODUCES LIMITED VAMPIRELLA LITHOGRAPH TO BENEFIT FAN FAVORITE ARTIST JOYCE CHIN
04/25/19 @ 2:00 pm EST
Source: Dynamite | Categories: Dynamite | Comments (0) | E-mail Article | Add a Comment

Dynamite announces an exclusive Vampirella lithograph to benefit artist in need Joyce Chin! On the way to C2E2 with her fellow superstar artist partner Art Adams, Joyce suffered a subarachnoid hemorrhage (stroke), exacerbated by a broken ankle from the resulting fall. Thankfully, Chicago's Presence Resurrection hospital was able to perform surgery and provide care. She reports that she has not experienced any noticeable loss of function, a great blessing for such a well regarded artist! Unfortunately she could use fans' help with the medical costs. Chin has a GoFundMe page up right now for fans to support. Dynamite has worked well with Joyce for years and would like to help out as much as possible. Through Dynamite's website, fans can purchase the Vampirella lithograph or a limited edition signed by Joyce. The money raised will assist Joyce with medical costs.

The piece chosen for this lithograph was Joyce's first work on the Daughter of Drakulon, originally gracing an alternate cover for Vampirella (2001) #20. Beyond the clean, gorgeous central figure, the piece amazes with endless detail in Vampi's hair and the lush background. Such detail will be reproduced in high quality on the 11" by 17" lithograph print.

Joyce Chin is one of the greatest working artists in comic books. Breaking into the industry in the mid-1990s, Chin got major notice for her artwork in Wynonna Earp, written by Beau Smith. From there, Chin moved onto a celebrated run on Xena: Warrior Princess comics at Topps and Dark Horse, today reprinted by Dynamite in the Classic Years Omnibus. In the 2000s she began working with Top Cow and contributed to some of the earliest Dynamite titles such as the Monster War crossover. At this point she cemented her legacy as one of the most treasured Vampirella artists across several crossover specials and variant covers.

Today Joyce is one of the most in demand cover artists, working with every major publisher. Recent work includes variants for Black Panther, Mighty Thor, Doctor Strange and Ms. Marvel. For Dynamite she has continued to contribute to Vampirella and has drawn many covers for the Chaos! line including Evil Ernie, Purgatori, Lady Demon and Alice Cooper vs. Chaos! Fans can find some of her cherished interior artwork in the Spring 2019 issue of Playboy, containing an exclusive Vampirella story written by Gail Simone.

"I’ve been working with Dynamite/Dynamic Forces off and on for around two decades now, on a huge variety of incredible characters," said Joyce Chin. "This lithograph is one of the pieces people have told me is one of their favorites."

"Joyce and Arthur have long been two of my favorite artists and I've had the pleasure of working with them. They both are incredibly talented and have unique styles. I'm fortunate to have been close friends with them for years and was shocked to hear of Joyce's injury," said Nick Barrucci, Dynamite CEO and Publisher. "We thought the perfect way to boost their fundraising efforts was to give fans the opportunity to help as well as receive one of Joyce's most beautiful pieces as a bonus."

Funds raised in excess of Joyce's needs will go toward the Hero Initiative. The charity is a not-for-profit organization set up to assist comic creators with health, medical and quality-of-life assistance.

'JAMES BOND 25' CAST UNVEILED, BUT STILL NO TITLE

In a special announcement Thursday, James Bond film producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson together with director Cary Joji Fukunaga revealed who would be joining Daniel Craig in his fifth and final 007 outing. They teased elements of the plot but didn't unveil a title.

Rami Malek, fresh from his Oscar-winning turn in Bohemian Rhapsody and rumored as the main villain for some time, was officially confirmed, alongside Lea Seydoux, reprising her role as Dr. Madeleine Swann from the previous Bond outing Spectre, plus Ben Whishaw who returns as Q., Ralph Fiennes as M. and Naomie Harris as Miss Moneypenny. Also returning are Spectre's Rory Kinnear and Jeffrey Wright, who appeared in Quantum of Solace, while newcomers include Ana de Armas (Blade Runner 2049), Billy Magnussen (Game Night), Dali Benssalah, Lashana Lynch (Captain Marvel) and David Dencik (Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy).

However, for those hoping for a title – the subject of much online speculation – Wilson said that keeping it a secret was "a tradition" (although Spectre's title was revealed during it's official launch). (via THR)

So Bond 25 is still ... well, Bond 25.

TV REVIEW: THE FLASH S5 E19 - 'SNOW PACK''
04/25/19 @ 1:21 pm EST
Source: Dan Wickline | Comments (0) | E-mail Article | Add a Comment

In the newest episode of the Flash we got a spotlight on Caitlin Snow that was directed by Danielle Panabaker herself and she did well, especially for her first try. While the saga of the Snow family was a big part of the episode, most fans went in wanting to know what was going to happen after Barry took Nora back to her own time and left her there without talking to anyone on the team. That gets brought up right away, first with an argument between Barry and Iris and then him having to tell the rest of the team after Iris goes off angry.

The argument was very interesting in that both sides had valid points and both sides were coming from a place of emotion. Barry couldn’t trust Nora because her dealing with Thawne but that is fueled by his hatred of Thawne for the death of his mother. Iris is right that a decision like this should be made as a family or a team but her anger is really coming from the fact that she finally got Nora to stop hating her and is ignoring the threat the Thawne has presented in the past… including the death of Eddie Thawne, someone Iris loved. It feels like the writers may have conveniently forgotten about Eddie for the sake of the story.

Tom Cavanagh continues to play both Thawne and Sherloque with great depth. I wasn’t sure why they would make such a cartoony version of Wells for this season, but now it’s obvious as the character has become more serious he’s very different from Thawne where the Earth-2 Wells had similar traits and would not play well this season. The big surprise of the episode was Thawne showing Nora how to access the Negative Speed Force that he uses. She fails, but when Iris (with the help of Ralph) goes to the future to retrieve her, it triggers Nora’s anger at being abandoned by Barry and then she taps into the Negative Speed Force, and it has obviously affected her in a very bad way. Which we’ll see more of next week.

The other story involves the return of Icicle, Caitlin’s father Thomas, and her mother Carla. Icicle brakes into Tannhauser Labs and steals a cryo-device. Later he returns and kidnaps Caitlin and Carla with plans to give Carla an ice personality and to bring Killer Frost out permanently. Though the mother and daughter usually fight, they find common ground for a bit and Caitlin tricks Icicle into setting her free as he uses the device on Carla. Killer Frost interrupts him and gives chase when he runs while Flash arrives to save Carla. Icicle and Frost fight with Icicle getting the upper hand, but when he goes to kill Caitlin, Thomas pushes through and takes over his body. They go back and we see everyone is safe… until Cicada II pops up to steal the device and Thomas sacrifices himself to save Caitlin / Frost.

The episode ends with Barry and Iris talking it out and Iris admitting that it seems like Thawne generally cares about Nora. Caitlin and Carla have gotten closer, but we see that Carla has now become a meta thanks to Icicle. We find out the Cicada II has kidnapped her younger self and seems to have plans for the device. And Nora returns with the red eye glow that Thawne usually has.

Other things to note in the episode is the continuation of the character shell-game they’ve been doing this season where one of them is off doing something else. This week it was Cisco who was off talking to Breacher about ways to track Cicada. Carlos Valdes has not been in the last few episodes and the rumors of him leaving the series continue. Plus the plot for next week says “Cisco makes a bold decision”, so don’t be surprised if it’s a farewell episode.

BOOM! Studios today revealed a first look at ROCKO’S MODERN AFTERLIFE #2, available in stores May 2019. In this exciting next chapter of the five issue comic book series from writer Anthony Burch (Borderlands 2) and artist Mattia Di Meo (Adventure Time/Regular Show), everyone’s favorite wallaby, Rocko, is trying to survive the zombie outbreak that has taken over his home of O-Town!

Don’t open the doors! There are zombies outside! Rocko’s been holed up in his home, trying to ride out the frightening wave of mutated O-Town citizens who have overrun the city with their madness and mayhem. But his best friend, Heffer, is in trouble, and there’s only one wallaby left in town who can save the day. Rocko and Spunky will have to gear up and head out into the perilous streets of an infested O-town but will they survive the journey or will they get turned into mindless zombies? And what does the vast and all-powerful Conglom-O have to do with this horrifying crisis?

“While Rocko isn’t the bravest wallaby around, even the most anxious modern marsupial will step up when his friends’ lives are on the line. Where last episode focused on Laurel Lance and may have been a goodbye to Katie Cassidy, this week’s episode focused on John Diggle, but it didn’t feel like a goodbye at all. This dove more into the character’s backstory and introduced us to his step-father, General Stewart, played by Ernie Hudson. John believed that Stewart had left his father to die on a mission and then six-months later started dating his mother. Stewart was hard on John and his brother Andy, treating them more as soldiers than kids. But they have to go to him when they discover some military secrets on a drive the Ninth Circle was trying to buy from a corrupt ARGUS agent.

Turns out the drive was only part of the plan, they also wanted ARCHER, Felicity’s super-program / artificial intelligence that they planned to use to draw the general out. This works and leads them to capturing the General and Spartan. Dante uses the General’s feeling for John against him to get the information which leads them to a chemical weapon that Team Arrow tries to stop them from getting. They’re unable to stop the Ninth Circle, but Oliver gets a chance to confront Emiko with the information that Dante killed her mom. She escapes with the weapon thanks to Dante, but then confronts him about what Oliver said and kills him. It was nice seeing Adrian Paul for a while.

While John reconnects with the General and Renee and Oliver see that Emiko is not going to come around, what might be the most important thing to come from this episode is Felicity’s reaction. She decides to destroy ARCHER rather than letting it become a danger to people. She also decides not to rebuild, but Alena grabbed a copy of the root program meaning the potential is there to rebuild it which likely leads to the future storyline with Galaxy One. Speaking of which, we learned this week that John Diggle Jr. runs a gang called the Deathstrokes and that Galaxy One has weaponized ARCHER by putting it into helmets and creating an army of soldier with it.

The episode seems to be setting up Felicity’s departure with her wanting to leave her mark on the world. I’m having a hard time getting the flash-forwards and how they fit into the season. The flashbacks were used to fill in the gaps between Oliver leaving on the Queen’s Gambit and coming back a vigilante. Seeing the fallout of this season in the future story just gives a fait accompli feeling that things are just going to end up bad. Do people just not like a story to have a happy ending anymore?

The fun parts of the episode were two comic Easter Eggs of sorts. The General having the last name of Stewart goes with the on-going wink that Diggle on another Earth is John Stewart the Green Lantern. Wouldn’t it be cool if the ended the series with him getting a ring? The other no was multiple references to Will Magnus and the project he’s working on and how ARCHER could help with it. Magnus of course is the creator of the Metal Men.

While the last few episodes have seemed very crazy and disjointed, this one seemed almost tame by comparison. You have four basic things going on in the episode. Nate and Ray try to figure out what to do with the amusement park that Hank started building. Zari is trying to figure out what to do about her feelings for Nate while Mona, Charlie and Rory insist on trying to help. Neron kidnaps Ava and Sara has to go into her mind to try and save her. And John and Nora try to figure out what to do about Neron and how to save Desmond. See, completely straightforward for this show.

The Ava / Sara story focused around a giant Ikea-like story that they couldn’t get out of and were forced to deal with all of their relationship issues. That and Gary popping up occasionally… he’s kind of creepy. Since the two were broken up going into the episode, there is a lot for them to work out. And while Sara thought it was just trying to help Ava comes to terms with their relationship, there ended up being a ticking clock as the store was closing and ‘Tabitha’ was coming. We’d find out who that was later. But needless to say that once they worked out their issues and Sara convinced Ava she loved her for who she is, not who she might be, they were able to escape.

Knowing where they found Ava, the knew where Neron would return to since he was the one messing with her. This gave them a chance to ambush and capture him. The Nora and John worked up a way to trick Neron into trying to go from Desmond to Nora where they could send him back to hell during the transfer. This would work great except they didn’t let Ray in on the plan, who came busting in to help and interrupted. And while it looked like Nora was able to banish the demon, we find out at the end of the episode that he found his way into Ray. Nora was also able to discover that Tabitha was another demon that Neron was trying to bring forth and needed Ava’s body to do it. The whole event though left Nora in a coma.

Nate decides to shut down the amusement park, but upon returning to the Time Bureau and seeing the demon who killed his father, he confronts Neron and learns that it wasn’t the demon’s plan to build the park. That Hank had double crossed Neron and did all that on his own and that had Nate not tried to reconnect with his father, Neron wouldn’t have had to kill him. Nate decides to save the park and goes back, jumping in front of a wrecking ball and we see him shift to steel for the first time in a while. The shift and ball destroy his phone, which works out well for Zari. She spent the episode trying to figure out what to do about Nate and getting horrible advice from Mona and Charlie. She also got a script written by Rory which included the word “bulge”. She finally decides to ask him out and texts him, the immediately regrets it… but the destroyed phone saves her.

While this is a good episode from the season story perspective, and we get resolution on the Desmond story… it also highlights the fact that this season has been long on relationships and short on superpowers. How long has it been since we’ve seen Ray in his suit? Or Zari cast a gust of wind? Rory shoot fire? This week we got to see a couple spells from Constantine and Nora and Nate steel up once. Haven’t really gotten all of those mythical creatures that it seemed like we’d get going into the season. While I enjoy the crazy aspects and characters, I do miss the action that we used to see in the earlier seasons.
