IT'S A BIRD, IT'S A PLANE...IT'S SUPERMAN ON 'JUSTICE LEAGUE' PROMOS11/21/17 @ 4:17 pm EST
Steve Whitmire, who had voiced Kermit the Frog for 27 years before being fired by Disney, says he was let go because he spoke up about changes being made to the character he felt were against what creator Jim Henson would have wanted. The Muppets Studio claims it was about how Whitmire conducted himself in the workplace.
In a Monday interview with The Hollywood Reporter
, Whitmire explained that he was let go by Disney in October. He was given two reasons: unwanted notes during the short-lived Muppets
reboot on ABC and a union disagreement. News of his termination has since come to light after months of being told he was going to be "honored for his contributions" to the Muppets and the hope of working out issues with Disney brass.
"The first issue was that they felt I had been 'disrespectful' in being outspoken on character issues with the small group of top creative people during the ABC series," said Whitmire, who had been working with the Muppets since 1978. "I have been outspoken about what’s best for the Muppets since the Muppets came to Disney , but the fact is I have respect for everyone who was involved in the creation of that series for their own particular contributions. At the same time, I also have insight into their limitations with respect to how well they know the Muppets."
Disney and The Muppets Studio have a differing interpretation of the terms of Whitmire's departure, stating that the actor exhibited "unacceptable business conduct." A source close to the studio told THR
that Whitmire's communication style was "overly hostile and unproductive" and his way of negotiation delayed productions. His persistent unprofessional behavior over a number of years ultimately led to the decision, the source said.
"The role of Kermit the Frog is an iconic one that is beloved by fans and we take our responsibility to protect the integrity of that character very seriously," a spokesperson for The Muppets Studio told THR
in a statement. "We raised concerns about Steve's repeated unacceptable business conduct over a period of many years and he consistently failed to address the feedback. The decision to part ways was a difficult one which was made in consultation with the Henson family and has their full support."
Matt Vogel will take over as Kermit the Frog. His first time as the character will be in a “Muppets Thought of the Week” video this week.

THE DEMON TAKES ON THE DEADITES AS THE KISS ARMY MEETS THE ARMY OF DARKNESS 11/21/17 @ 3:46 pm EST
Dynamite Entertainment and Ian Fleming Publications Ltd. are pleased to announce that superstar writer Declan Shalvey (Deadpool Vs. Old Man Logan, Savage Town) and artist PJ Holden (2000 AD, Judge Dredd) have been tapped to helm the latest entry into the James Bond universe with James Bond: M. The new one-shot will delve into the back-story of Bond's superior, M, and his time in the field prior to his ascension as head of England's MI6. The standalone story, which features 40-pages of heart-stopping international intrigue and espionage, is set for launch in February 2018!
James Bond's superior, code-named M, scrambles MI6's secret agents across the globe. Sometimes, he knowingly sends them to their deaths, for the greater good. But a traumatic event from M's early days in the field returns to haunt him, forcing M to return to Belfast, the scene of a crime…HIS crime.
Writer Declan Shalvey says, "I'm delighted to play around in the Bond playpen for this one-shot. Myself and PJ Holden have talked a lot about what we'd like to see in this story, we want to take a British spy and put him in a world that is both foreign and familiar. Belfast is such a unique place and a really great opportunity to do something different with a Bond character yet will still feel very much of that world. PJ is such a fantastic storyteller, I'm excited to see what he does with this story, being from Belfast himself. I love one-shots, and I know that PJ, along with Dearbhla Kelly are going to make this a beautiful package."
Raised in the West of Ireland, a graduate of Limerick School of Art and Design, and winner of an Eagle Award for Hero Killer, his first published comic, Declan Shalvey's first professional work was in the UK scene with noir indie-books and adaptations of classical literature. He later came to prominence in the American market with his moody, atmospheric work with his arc on Moon Knight. He has since worked with several large publishers to write the hit series Civil War II, Deadpool vs Old Man Logan, and Venomverse: War Stories.
Artist PJ Holden says, "Look I've walked the streets of Belfast checking dead letter drops and wanting to be a super spy since I was 7 years old, I'm pumped and primed for this. Bringing Bond's boss M to Belfast is the job I was born for."
PJ Holden is a Belfast-based artist that began his comic book career in 1997 with Fantagraphic's Holy Cross #3, before finding critical acclaim 3 years later for his work on 2000 AD and Judge Dredd. Holden saw his big break in the America market with his mini-series Fearless before forming his own company, Infurious Comics, which aims to produce mobile comics for iOS devices, Holden himself designed the Comic Reader App in order to facilitate the project, which the BBC referred to as one of "four pioneering web innovations" flying the flag for UK digital innovation.
"It is always such an honor to work with a master like Declan Shalvey, and we're excited to see his unique take on the Bond Universe and working together again with PJ (Holden)," says Nick Barrucci, CEO and Publisher for Dynamite. "We're certain that with his unbelievable ability to craft an intricate story, combined with the stunning artwork of PJ Holden, M's long overdue profile will be as superior as the character himself!"
In 2014, Dynamite Entertainment made headlines across the comics industry and beyond with the news that the New Jersey publisher had secured the license from Ian Fleming Publications Ltd to produce the first James Bond comics in 20 years. The first series, Vargr, written by Transmetropolitanwriter Warren Ellis, launched the following year to widespread critical acclaim, and was a breakout success in the comics specialty market. Subsequent James Bond story lines include Ales Kot's The Body, Jody Houser's Moneypenny, Diggle and Casalanguida's Hammerhead and Kill Chain, James Robinson and Aaron Campbell's Felix Leiter, Benjamin Percy and Rapha Lobosco's Black Box, and Kieron Gillen and Antonio Fuso's Service.
James Bond: M will be solicited in Diamond Comic Distributors' December 2017 Previews catalog, the premier source of merchandise for the comic book specialty market, and slated for release in February 2018. Comic book fans are encouraged to reserve copies of James Bond: M with their local comic book retailers. James Bond: M will also be available for individual customer purchase through digital platforms courtesy of Comixology, Kindle, iBooks, Google Play, Dynamite Digital, iVerse, Madefire, and Dark Horse Digital.

Dynamite Entertainment proudly brings together two of its bestselling brands for a horror/music extravaganza in KISS/Army of Darkness #1, the debut issue in a new comic book series uniting the legendary rock 'n' roll band with the comic industry's grooviest of character! Written by Chad Bowers and Chris Sims (X-Men '92, Deadpool) and illustrated by Ruairi Coleman (Star Wars: Rebels, TMNT Amazing Adventures), the KISS/Army of Darkness miniseries event is set to launch in February 2018.WILL DENNIS STEPS UP AS VOLUNTEER EDITOR ON WHERE WE LIVE ANTHOLOGY11/21/17 @ 1:25 pm EST
KISS is on top of the world and rocking faces until the night disciples of The Destroyer show up and the band disappears. With the tour canceled, a young Ash misses one of the most important events of his life that will change his destiny. Now the Chosen One has to get back on the right path and join the KISS ARMY OF DARKNESS.
Co-writer Chad Bowers says, "With Ash vs. The Army or Darkness, Chris and I were given kind of carte blanche to do whatever we wanted to the world of AOD, and we went for broke. We introduced some new characters and concepts, and built a legacy for Ash's comics adventures that I'm immensely proud of, but not in a million years could I have guessed we'd get to continue that momentum with the added bonus of tossing the world's greatest rock n' roll band into the mix! I've been in the tank for KISS since I was in middle school. I remember buying the KISS tribute album, KISS My Ass for the Lemonheads (they covered Plaster Caster), which lead to me picking up Greatest Hits, and so on. But when I found out there was a KISS comic with blood in it, I signed up for life! Of course, I adore the songs (literally listening to Do You Love Me right now), but I'm just as obsessed with the way KISS transcends the music to become something of a genre themselves. It's something I think about a lot, honestly, so no surprise, it's a big part of our story too!"
Co-writer Chris Sims says, "When it comes to Army of Darkness, I guess you could say that Ash is a bit of a gambler, but he's nobody's fool. And since our first story was set back at Alan Shepard High, we're looking forward to showing him some things that you can't learn in school. Okay, okay, I'll stop with the deep-cut lyrics now, but for real -- if you thought Deadites at Homecoming and the Supernatural Military-Adjacent Response Team were taking Ash in a new direction, just wait until you see how we team him up with the Starchild, Space Ace, the Demon, and the Catman. In the grand tradition of the film, we're tearing up the entire space-time continuum and if you think you know how weird this is gonna get... well, you sure know somethin'!"
Artist Ruairi Coleman says, "Having done some work for Dynamite in the past, I've really been wanting to get my foot in the door here for a long time so I can play in the sandbox of the amazing licenses they have. Chief among those, and high up on my bucket list, is Army of Darkness: Hail to the king, baby! So, when I was offered the job of drawing the KISS/Army of Darkness crossover, I couldn't believe my luck! The concept is totally bonkers, but in a way, that would make complete sense in the world of Army of Darkness. Thinking about it, I'm surprised it hasn't been done already and I'm honored (and more than a little intimidated) to be the guy who draws it."
"After a more than 40-year career, KISS continues to be one of rock's most celebrated bands, while Army of Darkness continues to be a staple in the comic book industry. We're both honored to have the opportunity to work so closely with Gene and Paul to bring their world-renowned alter-egos to comics alongside our very own Ashy Slashy," says Nick Barrucci, CEO and Publisher of Dynamite Entertainment. "The raging guitar chords and pyrotechnic spectacle of their stage shows could have come straight from the pages of the Necronomicon, and this epic battle between The Demon and Deadites will appeal to the hellions in all of us!"
As America's #1 Gold Record Award winning group of all time (and that's in every category), KISS can easily be named one of rock's most influential bands. The Rock N Roll Hall of Famers have released 44 albums and sold more than 100 million albums worldwide. The origins of KISS comic books date almost as far back as the inception as the band itself, having been an integral part of comics culture since their 1977 appearance in Howard the Duck #12 and 1978's Marvel Comics Super Special: Kiss. Today, nearly 40 years later, Dynamite Entertainment is the proud home to the comic book series KISS, KISS: The Demon, KISS/Vampirella, and now KISS/Army of Darkness.
Army of Darkness is a 1992 fantasy/comedy film with strong horror elements starring Bruce Campbell (Burn Notice), the third installment in a trilogy featuring reluctant hero Ash Williams. Directed by Sam Raimi (Spider-Man), the film saw its tough-as-nails, wise-cracking protagonist transported from the modern era to the Dark Ages in his continuing war against demonic evil. Army of Darkness generated a dedicated fan following for its premise and lead actor. Since 2004, Dynamite Entertainment has been the proud home to Army of Darkness comic books.
The debut issue of KISS/Army of Darkness features a wide selection of cover variants, providing fans and retailers with the freedom of choice! Three art covers feature the talents of Kyle Strahm (KISS: the Demon, Army of Darkness/Xena Warrior Princess: Forever….and a Day), Goni Montes (KISS, SwordQuest, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers), and Ken Haeser (KISS: the Demon, Ash vs the Army of Darkness, Hatchet), respectively. XXX limited variant editions in "Black & White" and "Virgin Art" formats are also available as retailer incentives for comic shops that support the launch issue by achieving stocking thresholds.
KISS/Army of Darkness #1 will be solicited in Diamond Comic Distributors' December 2017 Previews catalog, the premier source of merchandise for the comic book specialty market, and slated for release in February 2018. Comic book fans are encouraged to reserve copies of KISS/Army of Darkness #1 with their local comic book retailers. KISS/Army of Darkness #1 will also be available for individual customer purchase through digital platforms courtesy of Comixology, Kindle, iBooks, Google Play, Dynamite Digital, iVerse, Madefire, and Dark Horse Digital.

NEW STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI CLIP11/21/17 @ 1:09 pm EST
Image Comics is pleased to reveal the cover artwork for the WHERE WE LIVE anthology and welcome editor Will Dennis
on board to volunteer his time curating and coordinating the project. WHERE WE LIVE will feature work from a wide range of comic creators—including Neil Gaiman
, Mike Mignola
, and the previously announced Kurt Busiek and James Robinson—along with many more soon to be announced. Survivors of the attack will also contribute to the WHERE WE LIVE anthology.
“When Eric asked me to join the team, I was really overcome with emotion,” said Dennis. “The magnitude of this tragedy is incomprehensible and if i can help in any way to bring some small measure of relief to the survivors, I’m there without hesitation. There’s already been an amazing outpouring from creators and I’m certain the end result will be extremely powerful.”
“I couldn't be happier to have Will Dennis volunteering to take over this project with us,” said Williams. “This is such an important cause, and we are working hard to handle this subject in a powerfully meaningful way. One we hope that not only helps the Las Vegas shooting victims, but also helps push the conversation of the problems we face into a positive momentum.”
Stephenson added: “Gun violence should be abhorrent to all, so it was without hesitation that we agreed to publish this when Jim and Wendy Williams first approached Image about partnering on this project. Any shooting, regardless of the assailant or the number of victims, is a tragedy, and the fact that these incidents are happening with increasing frequency underscores the urgent need for everyone to be more fully aware of just what is at stake if some form of action isn’t taken.”
Dennis joins previously announced curators JH Williams III, Wendy Wright-Williams, Dave Stewart, and Image Comics’ Publisher, Eric Stephenson.
100% of the proceeds for the WHERE WE LIVE anthology will be donated to an existing GoFundMe for the survivors in Vegas, to be announced.
The book will include a variety of perspectives with key themes exploring: value of a compassionate society, need for communication/conversations, mental health stigmatization, access to healthcare, gun violence, common sense gun control, history of the 2nd Amendment, why the 2nd Amendment is important to gun owners, role of the NRA in national & local politics, balance of safety & privacy/freedoms, aftermath of tragedy and how individuals & communities persevere, role of the media in tragedies, ongoing need for survivor support, and appreciation of Las Vegas as a community.

And over on Twitter, director Chris McKay is giving your fave the chance to get the role -- and THEN SOME!
