Fillion Fit for Firefly Film
by Bob Gough

Nathan Fillion says he's ready to reprise his role as Capt. Mal Reynolds if the Firefly film gets up and running.

The film, based on Buffy creator Joss Whedon's short-lived sci fi western, is currently in limbo.

If it's made, Fillion wants to darken the tone. "One of the things we did on the show was we had to lighten him up a little bit," Fillion told Sci Fi Wire. "I'd like to see him as dark as he was originally conceived. That was something I found a little unusual about him and very unlike me in the beginning and now something I'm anxious to embrace."

A DVD box set of the show was released Dec. 9.

Harmony Shines in Angel
by Bob Gough

Look for the spotlight to fall on Harmony in an upcoming episode of Angel.

The valley girl turned vampire turned receptionist is central to the plot of "Harm's Way," the first new episode when the series returns to the WB next month, according to Jeff Bell, co-executive producer. "It's just [actress] Mercedes [McNabb] front and center," Bell said in an interview. "I think it's really funny. It's sort of the working girl, but the working girl happens to be an evil vampire trying to walk the straight and narrow."

Observant viewers will notice that Angel (David Boreanaz) and Spike (James Marsters) will still have bruises and cuts from their fight in "Destiny," even though vampires heal faster than humans. Bell said that's to provide continuity with the last episode.

Bell added, "What we're playing in ['Harm's Way'] in terms of our arc is Angel is wondering if he's the guy or not, because Spike just came along and beat him. And so Angel is back on his heels a bit. So you sort of feel that, though there's not a lot that's explicitly about that. The story is really told from Harmony's [point of view]. She's in pretty much every scene we see, and so you're limited to how she perceives everybody. It's all about Harmony, and Mercedes did a great job."

Look for the episode Wednesday 9 p.m. ET/PT on Jan. 14, 2004.

Also, props from the show are being auctioned-including the amulet Spike wore that brought him back from crispy critter-land in the first episode of this season.

The charity fundraiser is Feb. 21 at the Century Plaza Hotel and Spa and will benefit the Al Wooten Jr. Heritage Center, a neighborhood organization dedicated to the revitalization and empowerment of the South Los Angeles community.

Affleck Not 1st Paycheck Choice
by Bob Gough

Matt Damon, not buddy Ben Affleck, was the first choice to play the lead in John Woo's sci fi actioner Paycheck. So says Affleck, who adds that Woo was impressed with Damon's Bourne Identity but Damon didn't want to do two amnesia pictures and so passed on the project.

The film, co-starring Uma Thurman, opens Dec. 25.
